i got away with fish botting but it was during the first few weeks and a lot more people were around

I can't answer how many, but i can say that while i leveled i made a point to go to obscure areas because I enjoy grinding while listening to music, and i found lots of bots on the way to 60. I reported all of them, and most were banned but not all of them.
My guess would be that it depends heavily on the GM involved and some of them are pretty fucking stupid. It's also possible that for some of the bots I was incorrect (but not really, they were clearly bots).
A popular system many used was having 3 or 4 gibberish named characters camping a fast regen spot with 1 or 2 level 60s there as well, the lowbie characters would tag while the 60s killed. So it was multiboxing bots.

I would suspect that most of the brack rotus campers are bots. I also wouldn't be surprised if a particular group of chinks gets free reign on bots while others get banned.
You can probably at least level with a bot as long as you're not stupid. Not as sure about farming but it would depend on what you're doing.

Only buy absolutely necessary skills (if you get more than half of them you're probably doing it wrong).
Do not buy anything from the AH for any reason ever.
Do lots of quests that have gold/silver as a reward.
Don't do any crafting profession (first aid is fine).
Potentially farm stuff like elemental fire/earth depending on what patch you're up to.

That alone should be enough, if you think you'll struggle you can always pick up gathering professions too.

They modify the bot's HP to like 40%. Bot sits down to eat until full. Gets up, GM modifies health again, bot instantly sits down to eat. Repeat a few more times.

Usually they find a pattern and keep triggering it. Like rogue bots will evasion if it's available and they're in combat and under certain hp%. So GM resets evasion, ticks on combat state and modifies bots HP. Then does it again. And again.

Rogue/mage has a ton of damage and control. Rogue provides control on kill target, mage on everything else. It's been one of the top 2v2 comps for arena forever. Works in 2vX as well, especially if you got engineering.

Rogue/druid is 2x stealth classes. Rogue has more dmg and control, druid has heals and some utility.

Warrior would go well with a shaman since you can give him windfury totem. Also, warrior can tank while you heal so you can easily do any dungeon you want. I played that combo in TBC and it worked fine.

You'll only have issues against mages because neither of you can get out of frost novas or dispel slows. You'll have to focus on interrupting, grounding and purging in PvP.

I'd rather go with a rogue tho since you don't need to babysit rogues like you do with warriors and rogue can actually peel stuff off of you. Warlock would go well with shammy too.

It's a natural progression coming from vanilla and most of us have been playing vanilla for pushing 2 years now. If the patch progression cycle was faster maybe it would be a different story, but it's not.

All the whining and crying about it is either from people too new or people in denial. K2 people swore up and down they wouldn't leave K2, but they did.
A lot of people will go gummy for better or worse because that's how it works.

On the opposite side warmane has been astro-turning various forums with anti gummy shit, either guided by them or simply diehard warmane fans (do those exist?). You suddenly have russian names popping up anywhere gummy is mentioned in more mainstream gaming news sites where there weren't any previously with hot news about how gummy is a shit server.
If anyone is burnt out on vanilla right now, I would highly advise them to look into selling their character NOW and not later, as the value will drop considerably overnight. K2 people made that mistake as well by waiting.
