If I buy a friend "Tales of Adventure: Heavensward" can he just drink the "Tales of Adventure: A Realm Reborn" just to skip to heavensward and play that until 60? He quit back at king mog or some such in ARR but wants to play Heavensward a little to level Samurai to 60 and at my advice I told him he should skip to Stormblood after he's gotten to 60 as the rest of Heavensward is kinda explainable once he's got the story in-mind.

Have you seen the spreadsheet for potential potency loss if you fuck up a single wildfire and overheat? One's being made for "the price of a bullet" if you QR or CD and lose heated. Both outcomes are extreme.
The phrase "have to perform flawlessly merely to compete is an understatement". And the work for managing a resource the entire fight while also never dropping a single input on your combo is the right to compete for last place.

And god help us when we need to go do shinryu extreme and have to do fast moving swaps onto another target.

The numbers range from 600 to 800 net potency depending on just when you loss you overheat and if you were able to get enough cooldowns in that timespan to make it not suck as bad as it could.

Yes. DRK got fucked at low levels in return for being pretty solid at MTing at 70. Bloodspiller gives you a reason to focus on the blood gauge, and Blackest Night is fucking broken, as well as you main source of DPS on fights with rampant tankbusters

Best advice is pop 1 cooldown a fight, and for AoE management DA+Abyss Drain is still pretty good, but occasionally throw in a Syphon combo to keep MP up. Blood Price got massivley nerfed, so it doesn't let you spam DA+AD's any more in large group situations

So does anyone actually care about pvp or do people just do it to get the gear for glamour?

So if I'm jumping into this game with plenty of MMO experience, should I just buy the level/quest skip, after I decide what class/playstyle I want?
I've heard the earlier bits can be a bit tedious and doing all the required multiplayer stuff when it's outdated sounds like it'd take a while just to queue.
Also when looking at the DPS classes according to op, do classes like Bard/Machinists have some good utility to make them worth playing or is it WoW style where classes get cyclically buffed to be sometimes good sometimes shit damage?

So when you open the fight as Red Mage, shouldn't you just cast Vercure before the start so you immediately have a dualcast proc and can immediately start with an areo or thunder without using swiftcast right away?

To be honest, I love PLD. Always have been into the class since the SNES games. The problem here is that the PLD takes a ton of time to get going against a DRK.

If it could pick up hate faster I think more PLDs would MT. I kinda prefer to MT with it anyways.
I have been able to build hate over a DRK but that normally kicks in like post half way.

I am not at all an expert, but DRK did lose a lot of it's button-dancing complexity. No longer do you have to dance between several oGCD skills that pop up at different intervals in your rotation, which did take away some of the fun from the class at first. The blood price nerf also really fucked with how I hand AoE encounters at sub-70
But 70 is really where nu-DRK shines. The whole kit pretty much rotates around Bloodspiller/Blackest Night and min-maxing Blood Price/Weapon with nu-Delirium. Getting the hang of these new mechanics has helped it gain back some of the old fun I had with it, and while it feels very different, I think it's just as fun as before now.
TLDR; Kinda blows <66, gets really good >68
Also the job quest is fucking spectacular

All the classes are slowly going to be more and more the same, and the only difference will be visuals. Its difficult to do anything interesting with any of the jobs, when combat has 0 depth in this game, and there aren't ways to specialize how your class plays.
