I never pick characters because of boners. When I started playing I picked my favs like Bob, Miguel, Akuma, Lili, but for some reason I played Lucky chloe and she clicked on me, but sometimes I feel that she is too tricky for my level. Cross ups work quite differently in Tekken and are extremely inconsistent, with the addition that they only work at walls.

Don't bother with cross ups just yet. You need to have an understanding of your characters tools, and when you combo people off-axis at a wall to cross up.

You figure out what is good, and what is bad. What is safe on block, and what is unsafe but worth a possible risk. Launchers are for punishes, lows are for mixups. Jabs are for checking the enemy. Some moves can be bait, like Feng's f2,1,2. It takes practice and knowledge combined with muscle memory

"Neutral" is when both you and the opponent are at a 'neutral' state. Neither of you is comboing the other. Neither has touched the other. Can also be called 'footsies'. Being good at Neutral means getting good at landing the first hit, getting pokes. Pokes and singular hits are more important than combos at low level.

To break pressure, figure out what they're doing. Jabs? Crouch and jab back
Mids? Try to find an opening, or sidestep
Lows? Most good lows are either punishable, or at least minus.

The ability to sidestep a move varies based purely on what move it is. If you want to practice it yourself, go into training mode and either set the AI to repeat a move, or sidestep, so you can test things that you're curious about.

Check out a youtube channel caleld "Avoiding the Puddle". It's snippets from a guy called Aris's stream. He's not the best at Tekken, but he's a vet, and probably the best commentator. He has advice for many new things for inexperienced players, down to complete basics.

Use Eliza in treasure battles since the AI doesn't block fireballs. Just knock them away at the beginning of the round and then zone them. Probably works with Akuma too.

If it helps, most launchers can be blocked with a standing block.

The game NEVER tells you, but there are 2 types of mids. In practice mode, yellow colored mids will hit you when your crouch blocking, while the green colored mids you can block while crouching.

If the problem is grabs, you can tap your grab button, or 1 or 2 repeatedly to mash out of the grab. But it's all about reading your enemy.

If your trouble is lows, endure the low but NEVER release that standing block. Attempt to punish the sweep if that doesn't work the first time then don't attempt to punish.

If your getting walled, well the best bet is to not get walled Once your walled basically all attacks will splat you against it. Your best bet is mashing 1 or 2 to roll away and attempt to regain ground.

tekken is all about waiting for your turn in a fight and never trying to turn the fight around mid combo, thats how you get fucked

Getting mixed up by your opponent is part of fighting games. You have to know the weakness of the specific mixup and then guess correctly to gain back advantage and mix your opponent up instead.

My only tip, learn to backdash good. It weakens the majority of mixups and aggression giving you the breathing room you need.
