While there are some notable examples of bad OCs, I still stand behind that the fandom itself doesn't matter when it comes to the quality of OCs. We've created some really cool and interesting OCs in our little community here. In the end there's no harm in having fun creating something, even if it turns out to be shit.

Why there's lack of proper Robot Master figures? There's not even figures of the Mavericks that aren't keshi/gashapon - closest we got, excluding Vile, is Bit from Mega Armor. Meanwhile almost every NetNavi got figures.

Not all robot masters are famous, just the ones from the first 3 games. Even there, not all of them are remembered all the time or liked enough to get a figure.

With the X Mavericks, it's something similar: unless it's someone like Vile and Sigma, most people won't remember them.

I just got the Ray sticker from Inti's site. No indication of Ray being a boss there either. Coupled with me with a 3DS holder...yeah, I'm blind until the end of the month.

But like I said, the game is MN9 focused to the point where Gunvolt feels like that one party guest that was invited. With Ray being from MN9, it would be odd to leave her in the dust.

Like 2-3 screens in, there're 2 ladders and a floating bar in the middle. On one side there's a small room (square) with a heart. Go there, and walk through one of the walls. You'll enter another screen. You'll be stuck in a small area, and there's a single enemy just kind of flying in and out of the area. Destroy it while it's *in* your small area. It'll drop the part.

I'm glad someone else felt this way about Mn9. It was disgustingly obvious that Inafune saw Level-5's ability to just pop out ready-made franchises (like Yokai Watch) and tried to do the same thing, but without the actual years of goodwill and results that Level-5 has (Prof Layton and Inazuma Eleven).

Once again, IntiCreates makes the mistake of making a game too short for its goddamn amazing mechanics (and also making the player over-powered - but I'm fine with that)

To those not paying attention, this is how much you can customize beck. It's basically make you own Mega Man weapon set

>Choose a weapon (this is actually the most boring part, but affects some of the later options)
>Choose a way the weapon is fired. This includes: a simple straight shot, fired in a spread out manner, or in a spirally manner (think leaf-shield)
>Choose number of bullets that can be on the screen (1-5)
>Choose weapon trajectory. This includes: a simple straight shot, HOMING, a shot that curves, a shot that follows a sine wave, a shot that boomerangs back, a shot that bounces off walls, a shot that bounces on the ground, a shot that crawls on any surface it hits. And you can customize EACH of these options (e.g. how quick the shot homes, what angle it bounces at, etc. There're 1-3 options PER CHOICE)
>Speed of shot, and how much it accelerates
>Whether it goes through enemies/walls
>How long before the shot disappears
>What happens when the shot disappears (does it explode? does it break into smaller shots? These also have further customization options)
>Size of the shot. It can be as large as beck
>Attack power. You can straight up adjust how strong/weak you want the weapon to be
>Optional diagonal aiming. You can choose the angle
>Auto-fire
>You can set *another weapon* as the charged-version of this weapon

Oh and you can set up to 24 of these.

And then there're other upgrades like air-dashes, more defense, etc.

I've been championing this game the entire thread. Also I've only finished the Beck-half so far.

Really fun. (If you're an MM veteran, you'll notice the physics are slightly different, that's fine.) As with the Gunvolt games, Inti made a bunch of amazing systems that the game is a little too short to fully make use of, and because of how many options are available you get pretty overpowered by the end, but it's all really good. (As with Gunvolt, you can also choose not to equip the overpowered upgrades.) See >>179868704 for my run-down of how customizable Beck is.

Some weird things like boss weaknesses don't really matter, and the game starts by giving you a whole bunch of options (and then you unlock more over time). The first stage will be hard until you get into the swing of things.

Defeating a boss allows you to choose 1 from 3 items: an element (weapon weakness, which I basically ignored), +300 CP (capacity used for customizing Beck), and a sticker. So you have to beat the stage 3 times to 100% it. And then there're a bunch of additional challenges, which are less insane than Gunvolt's. (E.g. beat stage using only this shot-type)

As mentioned, Beck has a ton of weapon customizability, but not really for movement. Basically all you get are air-dashes (which are very welcome).

For a Mega Man person, I guess I'd say it's something like X re-adapted to 8-bit Mega Man, except with fresher mechanics. It's tight as 8-bit MM and IMO plays better, has X's suite of craaazy upgrades and options. As usual with inticreates, the level design isn't always that interesting, but it's much improved from Gunvolt. Very Mega Man ish at times.

If this was the original MN9 it would have been hailed as a return to the spirit of Mega Man.

From a financial standpoint through, you can't please everyone. Some fanbases will always be left in the cold. If you want to keep the franchise active as a whole there needs to be at least 1 money making series. Classic was that franchise in the 80's, X was that franchise in the 90's, and Battle Network was that franchise in the first half of the 2000's. The other series weren't as successful as them. Zero was moderate and concluded anyway, Legends was a commercial failure, The first Star Force game did pretty good with 600 thousand copies but it was most likely just using the coattails of Battle Network since the other two sold terrible, and ZX is the lowest selling series overall. Making a new game in one of those 4 series would just damage the franchise as they're not popular enough to make up the costs for a new game at this point.


It sucks for fans of those series but you can't bring down the whole boat just because of a few bitter Legends and ZX fans. And at this point the entire franchise has faded in obscurity with the public so any new game will have the spotlight now.


Classic or X clearly looks like the best choice for a new game at this point, as they're two of the most popular (The Battle Network fad is over) and have the most unified fanbases of the series. Not every series is equally popular or important. People really need to knock of the stigma that the franchise and fanbase is really that divided over the series's, because one you think about, the only major split is the classic and X fans vs Battle Network, and I doubt Battle Network is what Capcom plans to bring the franchise back with. Sure there might be some people who like classic and don't like X and vice versa but those guys are a minority. Everything else is niche and if has to be lost and forgotten, so be it...


I know it sounds mean, but it's also honest reality.


If there really has to be a "culprit" for the multiple series problem, it comes down to Star Force and ZX.

While the other subsets of the franchise (Legends, Battle Network/Starforce/ZX) have their dedicated fans, Capcom's more likely to secure more money with Classic or X.

I think, until Mega Man begins to produce money for Capcom again, somehow, some way, we're not likely to see any new installments in anything besides Classic or X.
Thing to keep in mind for a lot of us here is that Capcom's not faring that fantastically in the financial department, so expending resources on an iteration of Mega Man that won't have as big a draw as the others is a major risk.

I think you can see how the subseries cannibalizing your own target demographic was a terrible idea, yet Inafune kept going on about it even after leaving Capcom ("if series keep crossing over then the franchise is dead to me").

Both XOver and MMO tried to do that assuredly trying to secure as many players as possible.

And given that Comcept has floundered and that Inafune's mismanagement helped put the series where it is now, kind of a shame that if he is not a creator, but a businessman, this is the caliber of businessman he is.

The only other build I tried making was a quick homing-explosion one like yours, but I never really used it seriously.

I'm done with all of Beck (3x through each stage for the stupid sticker, maybe I'll try challenges at some point), now 7/8 bosses through Gunvolt.

Really the main difference between the two is one has an airdash and the other has a double jump. And basically once you get to 0.25x damage again you can play the game as stupidly as you want

The problems with Comcept have far more to do with the fact that Inafune had been in a big company that already had enough connections in place to do whatever he needed to do with his other series, so he had no idea how to go about building those from scratch. I'd expect the same thing if Miyamoto strode out on his own.

But, come on; people paid $4mil over seeing a single piece of concept art and still being butthurt about MML3. That's literally someone knowing exactly what the public wants and selling them on it. Capcom at the time was pretending like it didn't know what Phoenix Wright was and acting like a series deserved to be cancelled if it wasn't making CoD money. The Field Guide is basically a book version of the CD files from Rockman and Bass but with a translation that makes sense, plus their serial number, weakness, the weapon you get from them, and who built them. It's pretty good for $10.

Which ones? The games that were "mysteriously" cancelled aside from Legends 3 were Megaman Universe and Megaman MMO.

Universe was basically just MegaMan Powered Up 2 and was cancelled a year after it was announced after nearly half a year of silence on it being developed, which coincides with Inafune leaving. MegaMan MMO is the only one you can really argue had nothing to do with Inafune, because it got canned due to the Korean company joint producing it doing a restructure.

i did send inti an email about all this as well as a few questions about what we can expect for dlc through their contact page (questions often answered on twitter, i don't have an account), though i dont expect anything to be done about any of it, at least not until a patch or something comes along

I agree that the game is pretty bad about documenting things. But I will give them something to their credit - the general user experience is nice enough that, even with the poor documentation, it's pretty easy to learn stuff if you really wanted to. They have a training menu, you can have many slots (and copy and modify!) for weapons so you can easily experiment, you can copy save files, and so on. Basically, a lot of things that make the game as painless as possible. I think they should get credit for that.

If I were being critical, I would actually say the difficulty is an issue. The game starts off with a pretty harsh curve for the first two stages or so (especially if you don't yet realize that dying has no penalty), and then becomes complete cakewalk.

That said, I think the challenges do a great job of being challenging without being ridiculous, so those are work checking out.

It's almost criminal that this game isn't getting more attention.

Okay, that was a legit freaking challenge. It's not so bad that it's impossible though. That's not a fun segment, but it's only one and over somewhat quickly. X2's second fortress stage entirely is a chore with those moving platforms always placed around spikes and flame throwers. The whole crusher deal in the fortress stages isn't very fun either since it takes all of one misplaced dash jump to kill you.

If you want to bring up a real sore spot with X3, I'd say the lava coming up after you defeat Sigma's 2nd form is far worse.

enemies do drop stickers from time to time but they're somewhat rare
as for stickers OF enemies, there really arent any except of bosses from M#9 and Gunvolt

and hardmode feels more like a classic megaman game
those flying drones split into 8 bullets instead of 4 when destroyed, Pyro's stage's bombs explode MUCH faster, and pretty much everything is much more action-packed

its still pretty fun though

FUCKING GOD finally defeated Brandish with no food

Avoiding his double blades projectile is tricky as hell

For posterity:
>After he's fired both blades, you want to be between him and the two blades (obviously the "far" blade is off-screen, but you need to get over the "close" blade too)
>Likeliest strategy: Get the "close" blade to land between you and Brandish, jump over the "far" blade.
>Jump over the "close" blade as it goes off screen
>As they come back, here's the trick: Jump over the first blade, then immediately (midair) start moving *toward* Brandish. This should allow you to avoid the second blade as it curves up to return to him

I just ended up using no food for any of the regular bosses

Turns out the last bosses are actually relatively easy (though you need to die a few times to get their patterns/strategies down). The last few times through the final stage I was so over powered I didn't even bother learning how to properly defeat these guys

>Evil Gunvolt is *really* easy. He has 3 different shots, and he just goes from one end to the stage to the other and fires one of them. There's a series of jumps to get to the other side of him without running into him, and the 3 different shots (red/green/blue) can be avoided with positioning or a single jump.
>Teseo's phase one just involves a lot of jumping and shooting (Also I didn't even realize Beck shows up here)
>Teseo's phase two is a lot more interesting - You have to form a series of stairs to get high enough to hit him. The thing here is that the blocks don't have to line up exactly, so you want to get 3 separate steps to get up and rapid fire him.

Ugh.

Now at least I can reward myself by becoming OP in hard mode.

Yep. Hell for half the bosses I was cheaping through with my 0.25x damage and 1.50-3x attack. Now I've been finally forced to learn boss patterns.

Difficulty ranking (easy to hard)

>Plasma Tank (takes a while, but pattern is easy)

>Battalion (Well once you've beaten him at 500CP, you can beat him anywhere)

>FUCKING BRANDISH

Apparently the two other secret achievements are getting 30/50 bursts? I don't know why they would make those secret

though aviator is definitely the most annoying boss for me no matter how much cp you have

I don't remember much specific about my playthrough of MN9, but I do remember the boss battles being pretty good, if aggravating. A lot of thought was put into making them likes puzzles, where for each phase you had to figure out the "trick" to getting through them (in addition to executing them perfectly)

Aviator is kind of weird. I still didn't properly figure out how to avoid him when he's moving around with his stupid camera, but unlike Brandish he's open to attacks often enough that you could beat him without having to properly master that. Also his phase-2 attack is easy to get through

going through aviator as gunvolt was funny because i often used my recording to time jumps or dodges correctly

but his camera shot is a lot more accurate and homes in a little in hardmode and he flies way faster than in normal mode

All you need to do is play on the harder versions of the levels and you'll get their EX skill. No ranks needed. Actually, in my opinion, Z2 is the only one to get the ranking system all wrong, because at least Z3 lets you charge weapons by default.
