My copy of Animal Crossing: City Folk arrived in the mail. There is no instruction manual included though as the seller said it may or may not be included. I now feel bad for not realizing that I could get the GameCube version since the Wii plays GameCube games. What should I expect when load up this game for the first time or should I try to get the first game then play that as my first Animal Crossing experience?

Honestly, I'd just cut your losses and get the gamecube game, man. I spent over a thousand hours in city folk and it's really bad. The only reason I played so much is because I'm an Animal Crossing freak.

It's a port of Wild Word with slightly better graphics and some added features but neither really makes it better. It introduced grass deterioration and to show it off grass deteriorates so fast that you basically end up in a desert after a while. There's a "city" that is more trouble than it's worth. And they removed the villager pictures, for some reason.

But I guess the most relevant thing for you would be to know that dialogue is arguably worse than in Wild World, so I wouldn't recommend it as a first experience.

The animal dialogue is a lot more varied and unique in the Gamecube version whereas in the other games everyone feels kinda samey and cheerful, even when they're supposed to be moody. City Folk also has a case of magical disappearing grass, where the grass deterioration is so bad you can see it disappearing beneath your feet if you look close enough. So if those aren't a deal breaker than go ahead, but you would probably have a better time with the Gamecube version, the only problem I can think of with that one is that you have to mail your fossils away to get them appraised.

City Folk has too many issues, most notably dialogue is at it's worst in that game. Also, there's more to do in the original, I feel like. I don't really understand this reset guide to get a villager you want in new leaf. I understand that you need to have less than 10 villagers and then you need to create a new file but what after that? you just check the campsite to see if someone is there? If they are not do you have to create another new save file and try again? does the new save file take up a villager spot? Is this the best way to get the villagers that you want, it seems very tedious given how many villagers there are.

So I think this is how it goes. You create a new villager, go see if someone is in your campsite, if no one's there or not who you want, you quit and create a new villager and start over again. When you see someone you like, you save, then ask them to move in. You can then delete this new villager and they should lay a plot down the next day. The more efficient was is to just buy the cards of the characters you want, or save edit the character in.

When you load an already existing character the current state of your town is saved, meaning that the villager in the campsite or the house location of a new villager will stay that way, even if you exit without saving. Starting a new character allows you to take a peek at your town without loading up one of your other characters, since it doesn't save anything until you pick the location of that character's house. This allows you to keep re-rolling your town until you get what you want. If you don't get what you want, you have to turn the game off and create another character. When you do get the villager you want, you pick a spot for the character's house and save the game to lock that villager in, then delete the character.

An easier way of getting the villagers you want is to get the villager's card and scan them in using wisp, but you have to have the physical card for that.

If you run, you'll be missing out on having grass.
Grass deterioration is potentially the biggest turn-off from investing time into City Folk, because you will be stuck with a LOT of brown dirt patches if you play frequently.
I also find that Animal Crossing is at its best in handheld form for comfort and portability; and the wii-mote/nunchuk just never fit the game for me. No sense in ignoring the game you purchased, but take it with a grain of salt.

It's between that and New Leaf depending on what you care about more. The villagers in New Leaf are all one-dimensional and they kicked Resetti out onto the streets, but you can't customize your town as greatly in the Gamecube version. Grass deterioration doesn't exist though, so that's nice.

If you haven't played Wild World then you're fine playing City Folk. It's still an Animal Crossing game, it's just that it didn't really add much new to the series to set it apart from the previous game. Just make sure to path your town and you'll be fine.

I posted about someone selling all the Sanrio furniture from the Amiibo cards in the previous thread. I have two reasons why I'd pay IRL money for in-game items.

I've seen all 6 cards selling up to $20/each, so $120 for the whole set. Sure, I'll have the actual cards in my possession and I could resell them at minimal to no profit loss but why go through that hassle in the first place? Knowing me I'd probably want to keep the cards for collecting so I would end up spending $60-120 on cards to look at in real life and furniture to sit on in game.

These are very girly items that the typical /acg/ browser is most likely not interested in. I could look for someone with the items on Reddit but I'd either have to give them 9,999,999,999,999 bells for one item or pay IRL money anyway.

However, that same seller was selling common furniture sets and even just access to an Amiibo card which is silly to me because that's what /acg/ is for and doesn't cost me a dime.

if someone here has a hacked game and could order the Sanrio items for me I would be immensely appreciative and pay a good amount of bells though.

Powersaves won't corrupt your files, only if you time travel with the codes on. They also have backup feature. It's tedious but you'll get what you want item-wise. Save editing does the map and villager changes. (It has high corruption possibility though.) I prefer powersaves because you get what you want but not really lose interest that fast because you still have things to do.

Once you hit 9 villagers you don't get any more random move-ins, you have to receive a villager either from your campsite, by adopting from another town, or from someone's void/streetpass.

I don't know if you mean campground as in the area with Harvey or campground as in the PWP you place in town but in the case of the PWP visitors are random and you won't always see someone even if you have space available.
