I just got to the point where Akechi's blackmailing me into teaming up with him(10/26), and I noticed 2 odd things about what he said.

First, why did he call the other world "the Metaverse" even though we didn't tell him what we called the other world?

Second, why did he claim that his Persona awakened out of a desire to survive and find the truth, when everyone else awakened their Personas out of resentment and hatred of something or someone?

The series has changed the director just recently. P5 was also the best selling game for Atlus.

Even if Akechi does come back, what path is there for him aside from being the psychotic villain?

He's killed countless innocent people, including Haru's father and Futaba's mother. The Phantom Thieves were sympathetic towards him for his ordeal, but they certainly did not forgive him.

The only possible thing they can do is create a new big bad, have PT getting their asses kicked, and then have Akechi swoop in and save them ("but that's just stupid akechi fan-wanking!" yeah well it'd be re-introducing a character thought dead so you gotta have him do something flashy), and he'd join you to fight the big bad in earnest this time.

But he'd either have to die for real this time fighting the big bad, or turn himself in after it's all over. There's no way that all can be forgiven after what he's done.

Honestly, I think the climax suffers from being insanely cliche and feeling the need to constantly escalate. Having a massive heavenly confrontation with a god feels out of place and thematically inappropriate for "Phantom Thieves". It was still cool though, but it could have been cooler.

The actual last conflict, albeit story only, is much better and way more appropriate thematically.
