The game will probably be negatively impacted in alot of ways, it's kind of a "ride or die" either the game adapts and handles this sudden change well or it collapses on itself after reaching critical mass.
Depending on what future link support/hate we get the game will either turn into a permanent D-ruler format kinda thing because of how strong the mechanic is or there will be enough anti-Link shit that we'll be able to tech against it.

I hadn't noticed she didnt have her own strings. But then on Shekinaga, It kinda looks like Construct was forcibly combined with Towers, she has a bunch of weird things besides the string wrapped around her body and it looks like shes unconscious and slumped. It was a pretty solid duel, Yugi ended up destroying that unkillable field spell by having only one card left in his deck, meaning he couldn't send half his deck to the Graveyard.

I don't remember anybody outright editing cards, except for Zexal obviously, but there were several times where people were guilty of stacking their decks and hiding cards up their sleeves.

Zexal is unironically my favorite series, even its dodgy first season.
I'm also fine with the whole 'Zexal draw' thing; when you think about it, everyone in all the shows draw the exact card they need when they need it. So turning it into a super power is actually more realistic, I guess.

YGOPro uses OCG rules to begin with anyway. And if anything adding all of those post-Link cards to the client without enabling Link rules just makes a bigger mess of things anyway. A lot of those cards aren't balanced for the pre-Link rules, and yet people use them anyway.
