You mean transparent or just invisible? It took me several hours but I loved the result I got when I got my glass plasma tanks working.

I'm gonna make a deathclaw with glowing green transparent skin with his bones showing underneath. A deathclaw that got so irradiated its skin became an X-ray. It will throw radioactive blobs at people and have a 20 or 30 foot radius of Radiation exposure to everything around it.

What sort of adjective should I add to its name, /fog/? Irradiated doesn't seem to be a strong enough word. Maybe "Nuclear deathclaw"? Or "Electromagnetic deathclaw"? "Gamma Deathclaw"?

you know how they have that semitransparent checker pattern?

I've been trying to recolor the bornagain combat armors to closer match the vanilla colors but every time I'd save the texture the program made it a gradient instead of that pattern so it was black at the top and white at the bottom instead of starting off more opaque and getting more see through

As far as I understand it, coursers are only for the jobs that the Institute absolutely needs done quickly and efficiently. This isn't the case here, especially considering how the Glowing Sea would present a very real risk of losing one, or even multiple coursers. Why risk your most valuable and expensive operatives when you can just pay off a more expendable merc?

I think they should have scripted the fight a lot more to show how 'unstoppable' he really is.

I've got a broken computer part too. My CPU fan decided to make unholy noises and then stop spinning altogether last night.

I bought a cheapo 5 inch desk fan and jury rigged it to blow on the heatsink as a temporary solution until the fan I ordered on Newegg gets here, and its actually keeping the CPU temp 3c cooler than it used to be, at 28c now.

I don't really want to get into a whole pissing contest again, but I prefer NV over 4 simply because I don't feel like the systems established in NV or 3 were improved moving forward. It's disappointing more than aggravating.

From a pure design standpoint 4 is a mess of a game.

The game is obviously built around the mechanics they redesigned or added (e.g. power armour, combat and settlement building) and the focus of the game appears to have been lost because of it.

Todd as a developer seems very passionate about what he can do mechanically, rather than what he can do narratively. It's why I think he'd be better served not being in a game lead role and moreso as the lead designer, where his ambition for features can be managed by someone above him.

tl;dr Todd seems to suffer from the same issue as Peter Molyneux, only he's not as quick to jump the gun with features that don't exist yet.

I pretty much agree. While I can appreciate letting the developers have some fun with the whole "quests being pulled from a hat" thing, the overall world itself and the story of the game lacks punch. It's not really tied together at all, and that's what led to me abandoning my playthrough after like 120 hours. I was hoping for everything to build up and everything I had done to matter despite it being a Bethesda game. But when I went back for the main story it was this disconnected skeleton that largely contradicted what makes up the bulk of the game.

It's like the sidequests are a televised animated series and the main quest is a movie. But the movie fucking sucked while the animated series tangentially based on it was pretty good.

One idea I had was for an entrenched outpost of the Enclave that was stationed in facilities abandoned after the Anchorage incursion that would come down and use cryo weapons and a weather dominator machine, having used their terrain to become masters of arctic warfare. -New Vegas had Vegas
-Salt Lake City was entirely destroyed by nukes, and was hit so hard that the great Salt Lake evaporated
-Denver is entirely abandoned by humans, and is simply overrun by wild dogs
-Phoenix and Tuscon were nothing more then ruins, plagued by raiders so thick they made D.C. and Boston look like good places to live, before the Legion came. And after The Legion, they are nothing but small communities of little note.

The only possible place for another western Fallout game to take place in Seattle, and that would be so disconnected from anything else it doesn't even matter that its a west coast game.

Sawyer is responsible for The Legion, which doesn't make a lick of sense, and even he has admitted doesn't make any sense.

According to Sawyer, the Legion has no farms, and no mines, and all of its gold currency is obtained by melting down scraps found in towns in the areas they control.

There is also zero corruption in the Legion because reasons.

The Legion also has no towns of its own, it only has military camps. The few non tribal groups they have found weren't enslaved, and aren't considered part of The Legion.

The additional Legion locations would have had more traveling non-Legion residents of Legion territories. The Fort and Cottonwood Cove made sense as heavy military outposts where the vast majority of the population consisted of soldiers and slaves. The other locations would have had more "civilians". It's not accurate to think of them as citizens of the Legion (the Legion is purely military), but as non-tribal people who live in areas under Legion control.

While Caesar intentionally enslaves NCR and Mojave residents in the war zone, most of the enslavement that happens in the east happens to tribals. The additional locations would have shown what life is like for those people.

The Legion itself is alright, although poorly depicted in the vanilla game, mostly because cut content and the idea to make them an obvious bad guy. I do agree with you on Sawyer about his dumbshit "explainations" after the game about the Legion are dumb as shit. But game mechanically Sawyer is solid, he is big on multiple paths to objectives and wide viability of character builds, and his mod is a great rebalance of NV. At this point the boneyard has been part of the NCR for over 100 years, and San Fran has been part of the NCR for over 50 years, even more by the time another Fallotu game would takep lace there.

At that point there would be no raiders, no ferals, no hostile super mutants, and mutant wildlife would have been brought under control decades ago.

There would be nothing to do in a modern NCR town besides just walk around and look at all their adobe buildings.

I think the main issue is there isn't much clarification that there is a marked difference in Caesar's Legion, the slave army itself, and the Legion Domain, the region conquered by the Legion. The Legion itself doesn't concern itself with economic needs, tributary settlements within it's domain handle domestic economic development. This makes sense considering Caesar's big game is to defeat the NCR in the Mojave, conquer Vegas as his "New Rome", and rule over the civilian aspects of the submitted NCR. His philosophy was about a disciplined structured military ruling over and protecting the lower civilian classes, who handled the economic aspects of civilization, while the Legion handled security and military matters.

The idea that there is no corruption could be argued as propaganda or simplification; but in any case, Caesar himself has charisma and an obvious cult of personality around him. With this it is easy to imagine that he has a good network of loyalist spies all around his Domain keeping tabs on things. This "secret police" as it were could keep things relatively stable and free of corruption. Corruption, outlaws, and small rebellions are still perfectly possible though, as it's a large geographic area and news only travels as fast as someone can run, but also Legion discipline would focus on stamping out trouble as soon as it is detect, as if they fail to do so, when the local garrison would get replaced, well we all know what happens when a Legion unit fails in their objective.

The only thing I really have an issue, is the idea that a Slavery-prominent faction which has conquered one of the most mineral-rich areas of the country does not do any mining at all. They don't need to be massive industries by any means, but some mining is believable and expected, and the idea that all their mineral wealth is from looting is absolutely absurd.

I think you overestimate the resistance NCR can put up. The Legion isn't conquering their established territory, they're ambushing patrols and attacking camps under the cover of darkness. The NCR's forces in the Mojave are drowning in their own poor logistics, while the Legion are much more logistically robust due to their better wilderness survival skills and very basic equipment needs.

I do think the extremely loyalty and lack of corruption is implausible. I can see Caesar building an empire by catapulting his first tribe forward in military might and snowballing from there, but even by indoctrinating its youth, I just can't swallow that 99% of its inhabitants are unquestionably willing to lay down body and soul for it.

That's exactly what I was referring to. The lower classes (forgot the term used, but they were above Profligates), while under the domain of the Legion itself, are not the Legion. So a lot of the dumb shit Sawyer says could just refer to the Legion itself, which is believable they wouldn't be worried about economic domestic issues. But to assume most of Sawyer's dipshit ideas would apply to lower-class economic civilians in Legion territory, is just stupid. There is no way a faction as large as the Legion could sustain itself for 30 years just on looting alone without some domestic economic support (which is lightly and loosely implied by the non-Legion lower classes within it's domain).

The first raiders you'd encounter from Megaton were all the way on the other side of Springvale inside the abandoned school or down at the Super Duper Mart on the outskirts of the Capitol.

The whole point of Diamond City is that its self sufficient as is.

Yeah, in general I think FO3 had good world placement. Tenpenny Tower was a bit shitty as a player-home option though, but beyond that I liked it. My only complaint about settlements near threat areas, is Fort Independence is in a shitty spot, down in this low ground right next to a major Raider neighborhood. Often the Outcast up on the bridge will wind up dying over time as he's in such a shitty position.

Random orphans, and the people Big Town probably make a quest to return to Little Lamplight and deliver their children there when it happens. In-cavern births are possible too with the older members; how old was Stumpy, 18 or 16? If 16 the window of internal births would be lower but still possible, if 18 that's plenty of time for young women to have a possible birth before being exiled. Outside orphans and Big Town children returning would be the majority of Lamplight's population though.

The Appalachian mountains(the grey box) serves as a natural barrier.

And large parts of the Northern areas, as well as large parts of the south(the brownish areas), would have basically become one giant version of Point Look ou or Far Harbor, making travel across the forests and mashes there very difficult, and very dangerous.

Really, the only logical crossing points east to west that would be open are The Pitt, which we know is a hellhole of the worst kind, and possibly Atlanta, which is really down south.

Going into Canada and then heading to Detroit might work, but there will likely be some mcugffin plot device like the great lakes flooded over the land ridge or some shit

instead of all that garbage they can simply consolidate it to the ammo types you pointed out already.

Hollow Point induces wounding/bleeding and is better against soft-targets while AP rounds are better against robots and not so against others. Want radiation infused weapon? Put some generic Rad asset on the receiver or barrel and share it among other weapons like it, same with plasma, cryo and incendiary.

Is there any way to deal with Fallout 4's inordinately long load times and pop-in textures?

I'm a little sick of them frankly and while I tried the "uncap FPS" trick it doesn't seem to have had any positive effect. I've even tried getting one of those texture optimization mods and re-created and replaced all the .bsa's with them.

just right click again and hit transform, then edit. on the part, and scroll with the mouse wheel along the X, Y and Z until its where you want it then click accept

As much as we like to shit on Bethesda Game Studios for all the shit they did to Fallout, does anyone else kinda feel like Bethesda Softworks has one of the most powerful game line ups of any company right now?

Like, I can't think of many games that EA, Ubisoft, or Activision push that have met the same sales and scores as Beth's recent games.

Like Usisoft has Asscreed and Snore Cry. Activision has CoD, and EA has... The Sims?(I honestly can't think of anything else EA has besides Bioware which has been heavily been taking since DA2)

Night Vision scopes would have required some way to actually negate darkness through the scope only, and I guess they don't have the chops.

Recon scopes too, but I don't think the washout filter they use is necessary.

I think the sway issue might contribute as well. They may not have been able to figure out how to make it sway in zoom without it swaying in third as well. If you'll notice, the scope mod makes all the scopes behave like reflex sights.

Whatever though. STS does alright. The sway is often excessive anyhow.

I also do like the Merc Charmer outfit for reasons I explained. I think early games NYC was assumed to be nothing but a smouldering crater, but I don't remember if anything directly was mentioned about it. From FO4 it does sound like it has ruins of skyscrapers still standing (as some were said to almost reach the Prydwen), and that the city seemed full of mutants, ghouls, cannibals, and the like. I thought like with there being queens and shit that they were the egg layers. The kinds fertilize the eggs and regular crabbys are like ant drones- functionally asexual and it would explain the few different types, killclaws, softshells and shit.
However, there are plenty of eggs around that are miles from queens. So are the Kings the male, and regular crabs female? Are they like lobster, where they will continue to grow if given the right conditions. Hatchlings into soft shell into regular into killclaw into eventually queen. we never see small queens though and they appear to be almost a different species.
the other flaw in this is that eggs hatch despite no visible kings nearby so unless they are heavily nomadic running from nest to nest dumping loads it seems unlikely.

like most things in FO4, it falls apart on closer inspection.

Odd question this does bring up though: are Super Mutants effects by chems? I mean, just imagine how nightmarish they might be if one took a dose of psychobuff?

Or is one of the actual drawbacks of their system just that they can't make use of it.

On the note of 'mirelurk queens that just keep growing'. I think that's an actual thing with crustaceans. I remembered reading somewhere lobsters are theoretically capable of living forever and capable of just keep on growing with their lifespans only being cutshort by sub optimal conditions and becoming increasingly juicey to predators.

So I am modding FONV and I have hit bit of a snag. WMX-EVE-AllDLC requires the individual WMX DLC esps. However, the YUP-WMX-PN-PNEO file requires the WMX Merged DLC. I can only have one active.

Would downloading the WMX DLC file manually and putting the missing ESPs in my data folder work, despite the "Merged" ESP already containing them?

I've never been a fan of how most games handle battery-like objects as just another ammunition type. Always thought it'd be cool to load one charge into the weapon and have it deplete like an actual battery, with premature ejection of a charge resulting in losing some potential usage.

Its pretty clear looking at Fallout 3 and 4 that they are doing a trilogy of games for the east coast

Fallout 3
-Had Washington D.C. as its big city
-Covered parts of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and lower Pennsylvania on its map
-Gave us Point Lookout, which showed what it was like in the areas far away from the major cities that we visit in the vanilla games
-Gave us The Pitt, which showed us another major city in the region
-Gave us lore about places like Philly, Atlantic City, Erie, and other places in the region

Fallout 3 covered most of the central east coast

Fallout 4 had
-Boston, the largest city in the northern east coast, and showed us what it would be like in the southern, more populated, part of New England like Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut
-Far Harbor, which, like Point Lookout, showed us what its like in places like Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont
-Gave us lore about places like NYC, which, likly Philly, is just a massive ruin of ghouls, raiders, and other mutants, but is otherwise not noteworthy post-war

Fallout 4 thus covered the Northern East Coast

This leaves Fallout 5, aka The Broken Banks, to cover the southern part of the east coast such as the Carolinas and Georgia.

Fallout 5 will probably be set in Charleston, maybe a DLC to Charlotte, and we will likely get another DLC set in the actual Outer Banks as Fallout 5's version of Point Lookout or Far Harbor

That way, with Fallout 3, 4, and 5, they will hgave covered the whole of the east coast, and Fallout 5 will be a good staging point for a new series of Fallout games set in the south like New Orleans, Miami, and somewhere in Texas

The Faction Housing Overhaul for Vault 81 is pretty subtle as far as not changing the whole vault. It pretty much just improves the player housing you get from the molerat mission and adds crafting benches around the house.
