I've got a low level skill character to mix things up a bit and help people co-op, I've got some pretty alright gems (18% phys from chalice dabbling) and I have the saif, reiter, burial blade, and church pick all at +7 with shit loads of fire paper. I've been using the saif mostly and just got the church pick, and while it does have every goddamn modifying buff built into it, I kinda wanna use the burial blade instead. Even though it can't be buffed would I still be offering some significant help with the bb? Church pick is great and all, I love it, but I've used it too much I feel and it's moveset is a little stale. As a side note, what are your thoughts on twinks for co-op? Just as bad as invaders or helpful? Just looking to start some conversation, hope your days are going well /bbg/.

Military Veteran: 40+/10+/14/15/50/6. For ez start, pump Vit, grab a Saw, keep upgrading it while using BB Pellets and Papers till Logi. If you want to use Blt early, buy a Repeating Pistol and shoot shit. Rifle Spear is a bit of a poor weapon to use since the shots are crap. Right after Amelia you can rush to the DLC and kill Simon early for Bowblade.

A nightmare is an altered plane of reality formed through the influence of Great Ones and the hosts within.
Mensis prays to Kos to achieve eyes, similar to the aims of those who first found Kos.
The significance for the Orphan can be interpreted in a few ways. I see it as the origin of the three third cords we find throughout the game. One third went to the hunters (found in the Abandoned Workshop), one third went to the Church (found on the fake Iosefka after the Blood Moon), and one third went to Byrgenwerth (used by Mensis for the Mergo ritual).
We don't know who says Kosm, but meme man has probably forgotten more about the Great Ones than we would ever know. I'm sure someone out there does.
This is just my own interpretation of it, you'll probably get different answers from different people.

Don't take the beast thing at face value. Fromsoft build worlds and stories around high ideas, then take metaphors for those ideas and make them literal.
Where the Byrgenwerth note says "When the red moon hangs low, the line between man and beast is blurred" this quote isn't about men transforming into beasts. Instead it suggests there's little difference between man and beast.

The lore here is written around the discussion of what it means to be human. We like to consider humans to be distinct from animals, a higher species. In a situation where an advanced cosmic lifeform descends upon earth, something far above anything humans can imagine, then man and beast from the perspective of that lifeform might seem to be little different from one another. This is the idea of the line between man and beast becoming blurred - It's a matter of perspective. When a god watches a player roam the streets endlessly killing things to satisfy their craving for more blood, there's no real distinction in its eyes between man and beast. You're already a beast.

Fromsoft just take that metaphor and run with it by having men literally turn into beasts, but that's just a nice visual representation that makes for good videogaming. The core idea doesn't require fur.

If you're looking to use another five, you could try increasing Str for the Gatling Gun and Cannon. Otherwise, Vit might help, since you'll be using a weapon that eats a chunk of your health every time you switch to the tricked form, but that's why we have runes.

Alright for that particular pack of enemies the Cutter works out better, but the stagger duration and frame advantage are nowhere close. For example, you can't do this with a Beast Cutter.
The length of stagger caused versus the recovery time and startup time of the next attack is super important in PvE against regular stuff. Whip form cane is completely useless at this because it can't produce this kind of stagger.
Saif R2 can also stunlock multiple bagmen to death.

Chalices are a much better source of chunks. Farm some chalice with an easy first-layer boss while wearing eye runes, and you get loads of chunks. huy83p9r is a good one.

If you don't want to do chalices, then just running through NG+ real fast is better than farming werewolves imo. Just run past most enemies, pick up chunks in Yahar'Gul/Mensis/Hunter's Nightmare. Of course, this only works well if you know how to fight bosses. If you're gonna get stuck on Amelia for 2 hours, then it's not a great method.

Remove the fire gem. Elemental gems change your weapon's scaling such that it scales from your ARC stat instead of STR/SKL. It's how you convert weapons.

I have a rank 8 fire blood gemstone that adds +8.4% fire damage, but I seem to remember that the actual math on that is kind of strange. I pretty much used all physical damage gems on my first playthrough. Do I need high ARC to take advantage of this damage? Please break it down for me.

ARC builds want a minimum of 50 ARC, possibly more for hunter tools. You use Cold Abyssals and elemental gems to convert pure physical weapons, and you generally meet the min STR/SKL requirements needed to wield the weapons you want to convert.

Not really. The first half of the game is mostly beasts anyways, and you can get your first fire gem immediately after BSB. That with a serrated weapon like a Saw Spear alongside the Flamesprayer means you can actually cut through the early game pretty quickly. You can also run the first Pthu dungeon to get more fire gems from Hotdog.
