It is! I really recommend it. It's really fun and the Steam mechanic makes for interesting strategies.
Look up the Tier list once you get more than four characters though, you'll need it since the only thing that really changes your "stats" is the different Steam packs and a few interchangeable weapons shared among (basically) everyone.
The aliens you fight are very diverse, there's standard troopers, advanced troopers, and also crazy things like long range airborne units entirely dedicated to crippling you (rather than actually doing much damage) and eyeballs who, if they spot you, call in an air strike.
Also, much like FE, beware of reinforcements.
Basically it's a lot more like western turn-based strategy games.
But there's also giant robot vs mega-alien battles so that's a plus.

Moonbow Missiletainn isn't that great anyway when mages are everywhere. Sure Xander also gets his shit pushed by Reinhardt but at least he puts up a fight to the rest whereas Eldi has to eat it all up.
