I want to have a tank at max level just so I have something of each role but I don't know which one to go for. They are currently all at 50. Here is what I know about each based on my own and other people's experiences

PLD:

WAR changes pretty drastically once you get the offensive stance and can stance dance between the two.

WAR's skill cap is about the same as PLD. People who try to make it sound like a complex job are the ones who can't accept the idea that their favourite class or the most effective class is not also a complex new field of science.

I would go with WAR, simply because the deck is so stacked in their favour right now that it's hard to imagine any scenario where they don't come out of Stormblood smelling like a rose, even if they do get nerfed or the tanks get more equalized.

If you like the PLD playstyle, though, then pick up DRK. It's basically just a more well-rounded version that doesn't feel as dull once you have the basics down.

PLD is not used now because it lacks damage and utility for this tier. This tier was a shitfest dps race in every step of the way and that PLD used to lack. Now I think you can see some PLD enthusiasts outdps other tanks.

War is top OT and thats basically it, it does the same damage as a mediocre DPS which is really high for a tank. Its a strong job that will forever be the tank-not-really-a-tank the same way SCH is the healer-lol-cleric-stance.

DRK is a strong MT and the best you choice you had specially at the begining of the expac, it had magic mitigation that was relevant back then and the damage was way higher than PLD. It was the obvious choice. Not so much now and probably next expansion since SE didn't like the DPS meta too much, even though they were the ones who forced it.

Bottom line, don't be the idiot that thinks jobs are bad, raid designs are bad, you can one day be yelling that DRK is the best thing to ever be made since sliced bread and then the other day SE decides to make a raid tier perfect for PLD and then well you'll look like a retard. Don't be that kind of sheep.

SE designed this to bring variation to jobs. Basically PLD is great for phys mitigation, WAR is great for dealing damage and DRK is great for magic mitigation.

The DPS gap between DRK and PLD is only like 3-5%. But this is end expansion, go with whatever you want. You can easily clear everything with all jobs.

PLD isn't "great" for physical mitigation. Bulwark is unreliable, Sentinel's CD is too long and the same goes for HG. They're good for that, yeah - but SE will never design a raid around almost entirely physical damage to the point where PLD is just way better than DRK. A9S is sort of an exception since a lot of people ran PLD during prog just because it helped but it wasn't needed.

It's childish design by SE, tanking doesn't work like dps that you can just separate different aspects (melee/range/caster). But its whatever, you should not play this game expecting some competitive and deep pve design. It's a casual game, to the point where the hardcore content is limited to exactly 4 fights per tier.

If you want to take tanking seriously in this game I advise you to learn and love all the tanks in the game, they are only 3 anyways. Because you never know when SE is going to throw you a curve ball and be like "oh your favorite job is shit at this fight, have fun gearing another one or getting kicked out of your static xD"

hey guys I just hit lvl 60 for the 1st time and I've hit a roadblock. I need item lvl 170 stuff to go into Alexander and all i've got is 156. I got the 235 weapon (I think thats what it is?) by trading in armor from palace of the dead, but I need 14 more item level.

PLD is definitely great for physical mitigation. Sheltron is borderline overpowered on single-hit physical tankbusters, Rage of Halone is a unique physical-only mitigation tool, blocks happen often enough that PLD comes pretty close to having permanent Dark Dance, and even though Bulwark is kinda shit, it's an extra cooldown that can be thrown down on top of whatever else you're using.

The problem is that they don't NEED all that physical mitigation. All it really does for them is make it so that they live through physical tankbusters with 30% HP instead of 15% HP.

Meanwhile they get turned into a smear on the ground whenever a boss so much as looks at them sideways with a magic attack. As soon as Sentinel and Hallowed Ground are down you really might as well have Nora in your party trying to PGL-tank compared to using a PLD.

BiS gear certainly makes a difference, I assume you also have the Shire bow so you're losing out on weapon damage and a lot of (proper) secondaries. 3k+ usually means good comp (unless it's A9S) though, I wouldn't worry about those too much.

Ixal are the only good ones because they give Grade 4 materia and you can buy grade 1 through 3 with the tokens.

The other ones give grade 4 combat materias if you want it.

If you do all of them you get a cool mask.

I'm expecting an obvious Japanese set but at the top is a hot desire for Garlean armor. Something akin to what a sas would wear, definitely not a van.
But in comparison to Heavensward; me, too. Ishgardian armor is nice on two levels. It was refreshing to see actual, detailed armor and it was obvious the armor took into account the weather about Coerthas/Dravania. But I had my issues with the majority of Striking. Halonic is good, the Library coat's gay, the Ishgardian looked lame. Orthodox was weird, it cinched the waist and the boots looked skin-tight while the pants were bellbottoms (bellbottoms in this game cinch the knee so when you do anything with your legs they look like a doll's). The chocobo hunting set upsets me. It looks cool but then there's parts of it you never see if worn as a complete set (calve paint, armguards).
So going to a Gyr Abania and Othard, two distinct places, on top of how they've improved on designs in general has me hopeful.

We certainly replace the fuck out of it but personally I love the meaning and design of the Artifact and I just never touched Artifact2. Artifact3 I can see myself wearing on and off.
