Still need to fill in the soil for the rest of these meshes and tweak the grid snapping size but I'm feeling pretty good about this raised garden placing thing.

If any of you have played ARK: Survival evolved before, I liked that approach of having plots for your plants like it has. However, I wanted to be able to actually connect them into rows or larger single plots so I'm implementing that into my game.

Yes. Working on a contribution-collab project with a few different artists. We'll take any skill level assuming it's a serious attempt.
You can either get paid up front depending on quantity and content, or instead we can work out a cut which is much less money upfront, but you'll continue to get paid as long as the project rakes in money (our Patreon alone current pulls in over $1500 a month).

I'm tightening up the neighbor detection so you can have slight offset placement without the mesh switching to a neighbor handshake one unless they are actually lined up.

I'll add that to the list of approaches, the way I'm doing it now, the player crafts a single raised garden plot and will place it individually.

Based on testing and feedback I might try a more Farming Simulator 20XX approach which has you drag a rectangle across the ground and that is the area that becomes a crop field etc.

I would need to better understand the maths required to fit the shapes to that approach though.

Okay AGDG, rate my story idea.

16 y. o. girl, she lives on a backwater planet on the edge of the galaxy.

FTL spaceships can only be piloted by pubescent girls because of BS. Every few years some girls from her planet are selected to become pilots.
Her father is a soldier. He goes away for years at a time. Due to relativistic time dilation during his travels, his missions only last a few weeks for him.

The empire her planet is a part of is controlled by a benevolent super-intelligent AI that communicates commands through the galaxy through hyperspace. They're at war with a corporation-empire headed by a group of space-industrialists.
MC doesn't have great grades, so she didn't even get into the military academy that would allow her to become a pilot. But on the day of her father's return, an imperial corvette lands next to her father's platoon weathered shuttle.

A robotic representative of the Empire orders the population of the whole continent (backwater planet, so that's a few million people) to assemble at the capital's stadium. The pretext is important health checks. Stragglers are picked up by drones using GPS microchips implanted in every citizen.

Girls of age 8-20 are being separated from the rest for specific tests. Most citizens go along with it, but some soldiers seem nervous.

When the robotic soldiers get to her family, MC and her sister are about to go with her Emperor's orders when her father grabs her shoulder and yells "This isn't a health checkup! What are you taking away my daughters for?"

Robot: "You already know lieutenant. It's a good life. Let them go."

Dad: "You know very well it isn't! When did damn scrap learn to lie!? My daughters WON'T be pilots!"

When she wakes up, she is strapped into a cockpit, in an uncomfortable pressure suit. A voice orders her to engage the FTL drive. She mindlessly obeys. Her training has started.

i recently started learning art, modeling, unity and coding for game i had always wanted to make. I literally only started weeks ago.its a pipe dream probably. i'm not sure how long its going to take me. I sorta regret majoring in finance and economics.

What you're looking for, a mentorship or apprenticeship, sounds cool in theory, but think of what it actually entails: A SKILLED dev has to give up their time to teach you. When dealing with a limited color pallete, outline character and objects? Only objects? No outline at all?

After weeks of work I discovered that using the same 3 colors of gray for both the stone floor and the stone wall makes everything mix together in a way that's really hard to discern which is which. And when your warrior uses a metal warmor with the same tons of gray, it only becomes worse...

Finished implementing the first "puzzle" in Dixie, which isn't so much a puzzle as it is a skill gate to make sure you unlock/learn about weapon collection. Spoiler alert, webm shows the solution.

This required some specific actor changes (like making a weapon collect that doesn't float and bounce like most of them do). It also comes with a few generic changes:

+ Changed the way weapon pickups look and work. They have a much better visibility due to a large ground decal which snaps "full" when you enter the collect radius; the particle emitter is still there, but the delay between standing over a weapon and the emitter stream increasing was making it unclear when you were "in range". Also, just doubled the viable collection radius for weapons.

+ Added a little dancing question mark icon whenever you're in "interaction" range (which is to say, any time the reload button will "talk" to an object/NPC instead of reloading). This helps make it clear when you can gather information by talking to things that aren't NPCs (like the lever in the beginning, before you unlock weapon collection or in case you are mentally very slow after unlocking it).

Let's say I build a chair. Then I save it as a prefab. Now, I make some copies of that chair.
If I make changes to the chair prefab (change the color, make it taller, etc), all the copy chairs will be changed as well.
Now let's say I take one of these chairs and put it into a room. And then I make the room itself a prefab.
In Unity, the chair inside the room will stop being a prefab. This means that if I make changes to the chair prefab, the copy chair inside the room won't change.
Nested prefabs is the opposite, it means being able to have preafbs (the chair) inside other prefabs (the room).

No. The game uses Banjo-Kazooie/Metroidvania logic, whereby you have to "learn" moves to advance past certain obstacles in the level. I actually think this is an important thing to include for basically every move, since it's a way to teach the player how shit works.

It saves states instantly and automatically, though; once you talk to him once, the move is permanently unlocked. The instant you collect the weapon, the bridge is permanently dropped. So hopefully it doesn't waste a terribly large amount of your time.

1) Soccer but you play a single dude using the ball to destroy enemy players. It's not actually a puzzle, it's an obvious and totally transparent skill gate to force you to unlock weapon collection.

That forcing in itself is mostly there to do two things:
1) teach the player about weapon collection (as it's a somewhat complex core element of the game).
2) teach the player that when they're at an impasse, it's a good idea to find out if there's a move they can learn which might help

If you skip the text, you skip the text, I'm not gonna stop the player from doing that (and they can always revisit the NPC for a recap).

And again, "learning by yourself" defeats the whole purpose of UNLOCKING moves. That's a core element of progression, the gate has to be firmer than "you didn't know that pressing this button did something".

If anyone is curious about the Monogame problem I was having yesterday (with Monogame throwing away lines of pixels), it turns out that I was defining the screen height as slightly large than my computer resolution (which I thought would be OK) and rather than just draw part of the window off the screen, it decides to be helpful and shrink it down by strategically throwing away lines of pixels until you achieve the desired dimensions. Does anyone have recommendations for Flight Controls? I'm just using something basic I found off of a tutorial on Youtube.

I honestly find it kind of janky.

Up and Down to tilt, and left and right spin the plane. I am finding that the environment I built is more oriented to actually requiring solid turning. Not that I can't turn, but I find it difficult, though I don't really play Flight Sim games, closest is probably old Starfox games. So maybe I am just a flight sim scrub?

I'm using the flight controls as a means for players to go between "Levels". Sort of like Super Mario World's overworld map where you select levels. Just thought putting somekind of Vehicle as a means of traveling between levels was more interesting than just selecting the level, and makes sense for covering long distances.
