So I got to thinking, and would the game really be harmed if Major Tom's UFO Adventures replaced Bankman in terms of the story?
You could easily twist it so Okumura is the PT's introduction to the masketta man and his relation to the mental shutdowns, and expand Kaneshiro's business to be using Shido to shutdown people when he's done with them.
Makoto would keep her role in the story, and would continue to minorly harass the PTs, and putting Haru in earlier would allow her vegetable growing to actually be of some use.

I think it'd work well. That way Makoto's story presence through her ties to Sae wouldn't be so overwhelming since it wouldn't be combined with her party member involvement, and she'd still get enough attention that her late joining wouldn't make her feel as uninteresting/rushed as Haru.

The rusing of Goro has to go down as one of my favorite moments in the entire Persona series. Not because the plan was particularly well thought out. Just thinking about it carefully and there are all sorts of things that had to go exactly right for it to work, like having Joker's cell phone on hand, not having Goro "interrogate" Joker ahead of Sai, etc.

But it always feels like in Persona games that the main characters are being used, manipulated, gotten the better of, and they only ever prevail by sheer force of will or power of bonds. To see the PTs actually plan, prepare, and set in motion a plot to get the better of Akechi is well beyond what typically happens in these games. Imagine if the IT had, instead of constantly reacting to the kidnapper, they had set up a trap to catch him. I know that's what Naoto tries to do, but it doesn't work. Or if SEES had seen through Ikutsuki's designs and managed to manipulate him for once.

So kudos to the Phantom Thieves.

This may seem very obvious but "efficient" is the best way to describe it. It takes a few days to get used to it but once you figure it out you'll get to anywhere in the city in no time, with few transfers. And the whole "getting squeezed by a million people" is definetly true. It's not a good thing at all, but it's an interesting experience if you don't have to face it every day. Oh, and the "we're arriving at x" voice will never get out of your head. You will hear it all the time and everywhere if you go to Tokyo.

The main SMT games have all been in Tokyo for several gameplay reasons.
