Nier is plays nothing like a Souls game, at all. I'm not even sure why anyone would bring them up together in a comparison. It plays more in the vein of Bayonetta or almost any other Platinum game in the past ten years.

Nioh is a shitty souls clone.

Nier Automata isn't a souls clone, it's just a really good third person melee RPG and happens to do souls-like mechanics better. It also has a weird story, more traditional open world progression (quests/subquests), no autosave, and less enemy variety and no pvp, but Nioh has all that shit too.

My argument is that Nioh is a BAD souls clone, and Nier is a GOOD game that happens to improve on souls mechanics, instead of just copying them, so go play Nier instead of Nioh.

Nier is DS3 combat and corpse runs, but also adds:

>combine rings / armor (equivalents) to stack effects for insane min-maxing
>change your WAs/Spells/Parry mechanics by just changing your equipment

So playing Nier I felt more like I was playing a souls game than Nioh, even though Nioh LOOKS more like a souls game, because I was able to min-max and customize the combat so much more in Nier

So I'm making an antimage/silencer and oh shit, Vow of Silence and Great Magic Barrier both take 2 slots. Vow of Silence seems better in general as it will protect you from all casters, but having to cast it every 15 seconds sounds really annoying and FP intensive. On the other hand, GMB lasts 45 seconds last I checked, and is very effective, but only against sorceries, not other types of "magic" damage like in previous games.

Which one do you think would be better? Vow of Silence and at least regular Magic Barrier are available pretty early, so it's just a matter of what's more effective and what's better for flavor.

I've noticed a good way to deal with the aggression is to spam homing soul mass and r1 from a straight sword in the other hand.

Most players can not deal with it. Especially greatsword class and ultra class weapons.

Nier Automata is the first RPG platnium games made, they didn't even do the original Nier. It feels like Platnium games studied dark souls before making Nier and added all the best parts of souls onto their game engine

they're not 1:1 but Nier feels more like souls than Nioh does, and Nier is a lot closer to From Software style games in how the mechanics and customization works. The projectile system in Nier works identical to armored core, the melee style works identical to dark souls.

24 AR for 20 SL isn't that bad. In contrast, going from 40 to 60 dex on a sharp washing pole only gives 21 AR for 20 SL even though it's a sharp weapon (you get 10 less AR when you use refined 38/40 as opposed to sharp 18/60). Though I wouldn't say its that good either, and for the washing pole a 21 AR increase is a proportionally larger difference since it has an overall lower AR, etc. 40 int is fine but I wouldn't say its downright bad to be at 60 either.

There's bosses in other games that do this, if too many hits are registering, meaning the boss is getting thrashed, it can get out of it to keep things interesting.

Friede genuinely has nothing if you get hits fast enough. Two summons or one summon with a kinda fast weapon will dominate her.

The first 80% DS2 is an open world game with 4 main branches/bosses.

The last 20% (starting with drangleic castle) is a linear path to the end once you open the Shrine of Winter.

You're supposed to beat all 4 main bosses (and get 4 great souls) before going to Drangleic castle. However, if you have 1,000,000 soul memory, you can skip all of that. Most players only beat 2-3 of the 4 bosses.

So you can either go on to the end of the game or you can go back and explore more areas before you take on the final path. This is foreshadowed by the Emerald Herald when you reach Drangleic castle. If you don't have all 4 souls, she'll say something along the lines of you not being ready yet to face the challenges inside the castle.

Using Ledo's at 38,86 poise let's me HA through consecutive UGS attacks.
At 45,85 I can HA through multiple GH attacks.
Is it worth going for higher poise then? Or should I aim for being able to poise through UGS attacks (since that is meta right now and I haven't seen that many Great Hammers anyways).

on the one instance you meet a greathammer, that's when you actually use the greathammer poise weapon art to trade with them since you're both so slow anyway

30 poise with a greathammer is more than enough to tank everything else passively

so, basically, when Friede "disappears", she's going to go into one of three directions: to the left, to the right, or behind you. if she goes right or left then you'll be able to tell by her footsteps in the snow, and when she jumps behind you there's a small explosion (for lack of a better word) of snow from when she jumps.

when she goes to the right or left, just follow her trail and backstab/stagger her out of the attack. when she jumps behind you, she's going to land on behind you + to the opposite side. so if she's in front of you and to the right when she jumps, she'll be behind you and to the left when she lands. if you turn around quickly enough you'll also see a small impact in the snow from her landing. again, just walk up to her and interrupt her attack.

now you never have to deal with that attack again.
