The Tatsuno finally sally forth after spending the entire fall season stuck inside Harima, and a Satsuma force under the emperor's personal banner is reinforcing, but it is mostly levy infantry and traditional units.

This is probably the last big battle of this campaign, as I only need 3 more cities, and have armies with striking distance of awari, on an island just south of hariman, and sado, which is finally about to be reclaimed from the Sado rebels

I can't fucking believe it. I will have siege defense. Mod Better Siege AI did it work. I played so many Total War games and comfy defending was so rare to see.

I agree that it need more content, but i don't believe that heroes is what this game need. Maybe new kinds of wizards, but that's all and optional, as people usually don't like playing as mage in Vermintide. Beside this who could they add? Bretonnian Knight and someone from Kislev wouldn't be that much different from Bardin and Kruber. High Elf could be interesting, but except for him/her there is no more important good faction to add hero from.
New maps (which will have as new dlc is incoming), game modes (eg. versus mode from left4dead2 or at least fixing last stand, maybe some stealth based mode), new enemies (fighting against greenskins, undead, beastmen or chaos would be so much fun) if they even can do this as the game is called Vermintide or at least adding new skaven enemy types would be welcome.

To the previous post about Vermintide's lack of quality there's hundreds of characters i can think of.

Slayer who gains damage the less health he is at. On higher difficulty does melee friendly fire but wrecks house with damage output.

High elf swordmaster who specializes on stances but cant block nearly as well. Cannot be on the same team as dwarfs and vice versa.

Ogre who is slow but has a charge bonus into enemy ranks and cant pick up tomes or grims because he must keep eating everything. Cant heal from standard means.

Arabyan summoner who gains more magic to expend on genies the more she kills in melee.

I really could do this all day. I only mention this lack of characters to indicate Fat Shark's reluctance to increase the web of interesting gameplay choices. Each new dlc without a new character is a fuckin bamboozle, I can't think of one issue that adding more diversity doesn't solve and it's right in front of their fucking faces they're just ignoring the elephant in the room.

After Sado falls, I win. Despite the setback in Hokkaido and the enemy's control of the seas, my armies couldn't be stopped, and pushed the enemy all the way to their breaking point. Eventually economic techs made up for the money lost from naval bombardment/trade raiding, and I was able to re-establish my fleets, allowing me to reclaim hokkaido and sado from the enemy.

You have to have an anvil for your cavalry hammer. If you send them in alone, you're going to have a hard time disengaging, and you'll lose more cav than you should. With the anvil, the enemy is already engaged and can't bring its full weight to bear against them, with the obvious bonus of it being fucking hammer & anvil.

Yeah, there are around 4-5 different basic siege maps in FotS, each of which have five different fort levels, and the maps tend to be geographically grouped so at any point in a campaign you'll be fighting on the same siege map a lot.

It's just a tree that they gave to the new lords because they wanted people to use the DLC units and it does make them fucking insane.

If you fully buff great weapon rangers and get then to rank 9 (easy as shit to do with Belegar) they get 85 armour piercing missile damage, the melee stats & charge bonus of black orcs along with 44 speed, which makes them the second fastest foot-unit in the game, second only to wardancers.

They can eviscerate a flank as skimishers and then charge it as an elite melee unit when they run out of ammo.

miners with blasting charges should be deployed behind infantry with auto-fire off, ready to throw their shit into melee blobs.

Personally I've made a exception with TWW. I want the extra content more than I'm worried about supporting the BS they're pulling. Honestly for how much time I've gotten out of the content so far I'm ok with the prices being what they are.

Just in the middle of my first playthrough as vampire counts. At turn 180 with small campaign goals done.
I've confederated with von Carsteins, conquered the empire, fought back chaos after initial setbacks (I didn't knew they will be 50% mongol-tier ranged cavalry and 25% chariots so I brought mostly infantry). After that I was severely bored with undead armies and their lack of ranged units and the lack of diversity in ranks and have formed a new army for mannfred to conquer bretonians.
This army consists of Mannfred riding a dragon, 4 winged terrors to group with him, 4 experienced vargheists, Varghulf, vampire hero, necromancer hero, 2 groups of mutated ghouls and the rest is grave guard. I am yet to fight the first battle with this army.

All the other battles I did was like I was playing other tw games, with infantry, cavalry and flanking, and eventually some vargheists and bats to fight chaos. Am I a shitter for creating something dramaticly different? What can I expect?

yeah, if you can play it smart and use stuff like the terrain/weather to your advantage your traditional units can fuck up modern ones in melee. Bows also have longer range than any gun unit except for sharpshooters and can do substantial damage since none of the modern units are armored.

Armor is pretty important as a damage reduction mechanic.

Dwarfs for instance have almost universal 70+ armor, making them much more resistant to non AP missiles (almost all arrow/bolt units).

Same applies to weapons.

Bigguns and Black orcs, maybe with two orc arrer boys to act as a buffer to any non armored unit you're poisoning the shit out of with night goblin archers. But I don't have the orc DLC nor do I play any difficulty that isn't normal, so take what I say with a grain of salt, also going into raiding/encamp stance is free fightyness you can abuse it to get a waagh going with out having to fight. Bigguns get bonus damage against large units as well but I don't know how effective they are on anti-large duty.

Yeah, and their bonuses are all to arty if I recall correctly. It's a shame that Republics can't have vassals and force Republicanism down Japan's throat. Even in base Shogun 2, if you made a vassal after realm divide hit they wouldn't have the Realm Divide negative modifier and betray you, while if you become a republic in FotS even the vassals you make afterwards will always hate you and instantly betray you.

Well sure, but there are cheaper ways to kill naked Dwarfs. For almost 1/5th of the cost, you can hold them in place while another unit kills them. Of course, that other unit could very well be ghouls, but they'll still take heavier damage than I like. I'd rather use grave guard for hitting slayers in the back, since their cheaper than great weapon GG, but still do the same damage when there's no armor. They'll be in better shape after the slayers are dead, and are shielded in case any Dwarf missile units aren't tied down with bats/wolves/cav. This is if I don't just throw a lord/hero at them, mind.

Interesting. So far I had no problems up until very hard. On hard I actually snowballed extermely easily and had the whole badlands under my control before chaos even came. Sitting at 4+ stacks of armies raiding dwarf scum and border princess to no end.

I feel like if you raid enough, choose your targets and settlements wisely, train your lords etc. you should be fine pretty much with every army composition.

I also completed my first legendary difficulty campaign. As Bretonnia. Of all the total wars i've played i think Warhammer is the easiest. Simply because of the magic and hero system. Cav really fucks with dwarfs(so does arty). Your cav can just dance around them and get them to chase you.

I use skirmisher cav to get their elite units to run after the cav while my infantry swarm their infantry. Divide and Conquer.

Heavy cav is for supporting the main engangement.

Also Grimgor can "snipe" lords really fast. Even faster if you have a giant too.


You can also just get the hammer of gork. Pic related is 2-3 volleys

Most LLs are good/great almost immediately.

Az is literally worse than a generic lord until he gets his Crown - which is like 25 turns or so until you can even start putting points into the Death spells, and early game is by far the most important of any campaign.

tldr by the time he's good you're basically already snowballing or losing.

I like him because he provides a more challenging start than grimgor memehide

Outriders are great
It's pistolers that are shit
You just shouldn't have more than 1 unit of outriders, because empires issue is their lines crumbling as you wheel around to broadside them.

You have plenty good options like mortars etc paired with crossbows which will facefuck enemy archers and cavs, while handgunners can drop chariots and horsemen easy if they get a volley off.

Your outriders are that mobile force that harasses the enemy lines to keep them broke and routing. Thing is they need super micro like you said, which is why you can't really use more than one so you can babysit them so they dont get caught in melee.

There's a pause button for a reason. Pause pretty often to take stock of the situation and dish out orders as needed. Can also do slowmo, but I prefer pause because it's still too fast.

Your archers can usually fire when running, so putting them on skirmish usually saves you that bit of micro, but they always run in the worst directions.

Necromancers and ghouls aren't undead, they are just treated like they are so you don't have two living units in an army of otherwise-undead.

Lorewise, undead necromancers (or something effectively the same) could exist, but thats not what the vc necromancers were supposed to be.

Ghouls in whfb 6e used to have the special rule "Alive" making the difference between them and the rest of the vc troops very clear.

how did the battle unfold? bretonnia is great but large infantry armies can be tricky. But then again bretonnia is my favorite because i am a horse fucker.

And one of my favorite anti infantry comps is 4 trebs, 4 questing knights and 4 mounted yeomen. + more cav and heroes.

Well I genuinely thought it would be okay, I had my cavalry geared up for some charges and counter charges. I leave them alone to micro my archers back behind my infantry and send my Lord and Heroes into fight. I glance at my cavalry, half of them are dead and one of them was routing. Maybe Knights Errant aren't good against Greatswords? I probably should have had Grail Knights by turn 100+ easily, but damn Bretonnia's economy sucks.

I should have been making better Stables but I had a really tough break in the early campaign where the Red Duke raised my small starting settlement and the Lady took it before I could reach it.

Grail knights can be pretty expensive so you can spam them but damn is immunity to vigor lost OP, literally never stop moving them,. keep charging them.
