Yeah, but you don't have to be well-adjusted to be righteous. The point still stands that even someone with humanity's best interests in heart would hesitate if pursuing those interests meant never again seeing the galaxy they grew up in or the people they grew up among. As it plays out ingame a lot of people brought maybe a sibling or a spouse, but beyond that literally everyone these people have ever known outside the Initiative died, while they took what was essentially an afternoon nap. People with less-than-stellar upbringings are going to be more willing to jump at that chance than someone from a healthy family/upbringing.
Also the Initiative was, publicly, only the former. There's next to no indication that more than a handful of people suspected the Milky Way was at any risk.

In fairly simple terms, on release ME3 had a lot more client trust/client side prediction in it's netcode.
Every time you used your powers when you weren't host of the match, visually they immediately worked on your end, sent a message to the host saying what you'd done, the host would confirm back that it understood what happened, etc. Fairly standard netcode style.
But Charge would *constantly* cause desyncs since the power is basically a teleport from one location to another. You would see one thing on your end, but the host saw something different (because of lag enemies were in different places than what you saw, etc) and it would try and snap back to get things where they used to be. With other powers you'd just get typical rollbacks and laggy looking things where an enemy wouldn't take damage from a power you threw at it, but Charge would just crap out and disappear you into space or clipped into the map because it couldn't reconcile things being so different between host and client.
After one of the major patches, they revised things so that the clients were no longer trusted, powers are now 100% host controlled. So when you press a power, you don't see it work until the host tells you it understands. It's why off host powers like noticeably have a little delay to use compared to things being instant and super fast when you're the host. Phase Disruptor is a good one to use to compare the difference. It's super fast when hosting and not when you're not.
If you've ever used that Turian Charge equivalent (Venom Strike?) off host you can see what it's like still, that power is very lag unfriendly because it has no 'target' that the netcode can anchor your movement to.
