Continuing from last thread, I'm trying to gather up all the stupidest theories/obvious headcanon for Automata. I'm not trying to stir up shit or push my own interpretation of the game, I'm adding every suggestion. Let me know if you've heard any other stupid shit. The story so far:

The only thing ending D suggests is that he did find out at some point, which is no surprise since we know that wouldn't be the first time.

It does it in any way imply that he has known the entire time, that world it make any sense at all, are events in the game that directly contradict it.

It's likely he realized it at some point during Route C, but when is hard to say and would be up to the individual's interpretation. Personally I think it was at the top of the Soul Box. But yeah, had he known the whole time, not only would many of his behaviors, words, and actions in route A/B make no sense and be directly contradictory, but it would also be a less interesting and worse story for it.

Like I said earlier I think it's possible he realized during the Soul Box portion of Route C, but i'm not sure. It's possible he figured it out before the last fight with A2, but to claim that he always knew, from the very beginning of the game, it's fucking moronic, and something I've seen plenty in these threads

I finished the game like 3-4 days after it was released on Steam. got nearly 85% and then stopped.

Now weeks (a month?) after that I started another game on hard and shit, but I can't really find a good excuse to play it again, I love the game but still there is something that keeps me aways from Automata.

My game crashed as I was trying to beat it, I didn't even realize the things could hurt me until I got to like localization.

I made it up to Square Enix not sure how close to the end that is. One of the messages said something like "you can do it alone" so of course I plan to do just that and leave a TTGL inspired message.

Gameplay is mediocre, story is good after you get through all of the layers, music is solid but not great except for one standout song that you'll unfortunately grow to hate, and the graphics are bad. It's worth playing, and easily the best of the Drakengard games, but you have to overlook some pretty significant issues. Specifically the framerate is constantly dropping. I personally never had it drop below the 20s but some people claim it hit near single digits for them.

The difference between that time and times when he found out the truth in the past is that this time the commander outright gave him the info. He didn't figure out the info on his own that time.

But even still he was hesitant to tell 2B, and actually decided on not going through with it.

Also him telling 2B wouldn't make her kill him. 2B isn't told that she has to kill 9S if he learns the truth about humanity, she just gets orders from the commander when the time comes and then gets it done. She doesn't know what she has to stop him from knowing.

I'm not sure what warning you're talking about. The one she says at the castle ? That is was command who betrayed them ? If that's the one you're talking about, I'm not sure how that warning doesn't make sense.

How is him knowing about 2E and having a major conflict about his feelings towards her because of it not an interesting dynamic ?

For the record, I'm not trying to say he remembers everything from minute one. But rather throughout the course of the game because of certain events and specific sidequests such as Amnesia and Wandering Couple he regains his erased memories similarly to how the E type android who wiped her own memories eventually remembered what happened because she was given enough hints.

If I had to pin the exact moment he remembers 2E, I'd say it's during the section where Adam is messing with him after the Grun fight.

And it is interesting that his waifu folder in soulbox contains pictures which were shown during route A. They were from 2B's perspective, same for the flashback of her crying btw, he was dead at this moment. So I feel like regular maintenance which he was in charge of was quite "useful". (there was a picture of the first 2B face reveal in A after such maintanence too)

It makes ending A/B and start of C even shittier imo.

It's actually interesting if you consider >>174638173. Roughly, there are 3 phases, each with a different neurotransmitter. Lust is estrogen/testosterone, attraction is dopamine, and love is oxytocin. Might be something where we'd need to see what exactly Jackass said that they translated to love to know exactly how androids are wired to enjoy combat.

If it was more like lust, that's sort of the traditional violence=sex bit which is pretty common to run across. But if it's a literal translation, that would imply what I personally find much creepier. It is an interesting dynamic later on, and most certainly contributes to his irrationality and anger. But it doesn't make as much sense if he figured it out too early. Why do you get the idea that they're from 2B's perspective ? Most of the images the are from cutscenes, which aren't exactly the perspective of either of them. They weren't going to create new shots just for that segment, asset reusal is quite common in Automata.

Is there really that much of a difference ? The things that make up the ''soul'' of an android are their memories. Erase them, and it would be just the same as killing them. The vessel they're in doesn't matter.

He also remembers how to wield a sword, something he couldn't do before the memory cage novella, after which he was killed.

Additionally, during ending D 9S is remembering his activation in 11942, and his first words to the commander. Leaving those memories in intentionally would've been a dumb thing to do, as they would've known that 9S would've realized there's a massive empty gap between his activation date and where he is right now.

His narration at the beginning of Route C also states ''Before I could convince myself to tell 2B the truth....'' meaning he was conflicted about telling her.

Well yeah, that segment is pretty early on in the game, and like I said I don't think he's truly aware of the situation until later down the line. And even if he did know, why would he openly react to it while right next to 2B ?

She didn't recover memories, she recovered photos from a life log. With a very direct reference to her past like that, she remembered immediately. 9S on the other hand has much more subtle clues to work with, and would take longer to achieve the same result.

Also he has memories from times when he was supposed to have lost the data entirely. Such as being on top of Engels during the prologue with 2B. If he could somehow recover a memory from a time where he died without uploading his data, he can definitely do the same to erased memories.

Every other time she's killed him it's been on orders, and since he died he never got to actually see her reaction to his death. As far as he knows she just killed him and felt nothing.

The whole dialogue before that phrase is about 9S having darkness inside him and him not wanting to admit that. He doesn't even want to see, comprehend, conceptualize the notion of him wanting to kill 2B, hence the censorship.

Part 1 is fine. Love is 'koi' which has the connotation of a strong, romantic love. Excitement is a straight translation with no particular nuance.

Part 2 is Jackass being a dick.

Part 3 is Jackass discovering the algorithm that causes androids to feel joy in battle. There is no mention of chemicals as of yet.

Part 4 is Jackass discovering the generation of a pleasure-causing substance in android circuits, or something similar to animals which feel pleasure. 種 is a bitch and can mean either seed or species. As noted, I'm out of practice. In any case, this seems to have been made Part 3 in the English translation.

There is no mention of a comforting element. I suspect that Part 4 was accidentally copied over Part 3, and the translators rolled with it and changed up the wording, which would explain why the bit about the drug development is included twice as well.

It isn't really a big deal though since I'm pretty sure the actual quest dialogue is correct even though the log isn't.

tl;dr Androids like fighting and beating shit up.

How the fuck do you beat Engels as Pascal on hard? I'm on my 2nd playthrough and on normal the fight was a walk in the park, but this time Engels is just straight up way faster. Theres no way I can hit him. Blocking also doesn't work because he can start his swing animation before the block hit stun is over. Am I missing the controls for a fast attack?

None got me to actually cry, but plenty got me emotional. The destruction of the bunker (including killing the operators), finding the little sister's corpse during the Pascal village attack, Devola and Popola's sacrifice, everything about ending E, and A2's comment about the world being beautiful, and seeing Kaine's home all got to me.

I was especially dreading 2B's death though. I had it spoiled that she dies, but I didn't know when. I at first thought it would be at the end of route A, and then at the end of B. When it didn't happen I was relieved but hesitant to start route C because I knew it had to be soon. Once she got the virus I knew I had reached it. That walk to the shopping center was fucking torture because I knew what was coming and I wanted so bad to stop it.

There are the obvious sad scenes in the story that made me cry like the ending scenes or 9S putting up a little gravestone for 2B, Emil's end, and so on. Those get cited often enough to not require further mention.

However, the post-credits scene after Route B hit me really hard upon second playthrough. It's this short moment of joy in the game right before everything comes crashing down. If you walk around the Bunker and talk to NPCs, pretty much everyone is proud of you somehow and genuinely positive about the future now that they think they have a chance against the machines. You even get a bit of dialogue with 9S that stops just shy of him revealing his feelings for 2B.

But, knowing what's gonna happen afterwards, made me really sad upon replaying it.

I'm not wholly sure the kids offed themselves. Pascal assumed it was safe because 2B cleared it out but going back to collect locked chests proves otherwise. I could see N2 attacking from behind and making it look like suicide for shits and giggles.
