Yeah. If you don't have Distant Counter and you're running the Wary Fighter 3 build...Attack +3 is his best A-Skill. Technically, Attack/Def +2 (from Spring Chrom) is equal in effectiveness. Life and Death 3 isn't a great skill on him so don't teach it and Fury 3 shouldn't be used if you are using Wary Fighter 3 (and you should be).
I'm 100% serious. As both an offensive and defensive unit, Zephiel's best A-Skills are Attack +3 or Deathblow 3 from a rare Klein/5* Hawkeye...though that's worthless on defense, of course. Attack +1/2/3 is really easy to get, too.

Yeah, I've got a few deliberations I went over when thinking over my Eldigan, current Zephiels and future Xanders and settled on these conclusions:
Weapon
Ecksachs is strong, unique and costs 400 SP. It's the best sword on Defense for him (where he spends much of his time).
Brave Sword+ costs him 750 SP to inherit, but it instantly bumps his kills from "12" to "53", procs Bonfire quickly and when ready changes kills from "80" to "98." It's the better sword on Offense by a fairly wide margin...but only when special is procced...
Wo Dao+ can potentially do more oneshot damage but is NOT worth 900 SP for an extra 6-7 kills.
Assist
Swap is the safest by far easiest to acquire movement skill.
Reciprocal Aid is bad for Wary Fighter, but great considering his has a massive 55 HP and your team needs a pseudo-healer.
Specials
Moonbow doesn't proc fast enough, even with Brave Sword+, between Offense and Defense to be worth it. Ignore.
Bonfire (3CD) procs on Defense or every-other Offense phase. On defense, Brave Sword+ neuters it losing 19 kills while Ecksachs keeps its value. On offense, Brave Sword+ adds 18 kills (80 kills to 98). THE PROBLEM with Brave Sword+ is is always procs on Defense turn 1st (unless struck by a Brave weapon) so it's a bad choice to pair these.
Ignis (4CD) procs on Defense with Brave Sword+ (36 kills) or every-other Offense with Ecksachs (103) kills. Unless struck by a brave weapon, in which case Ecksachs procs on defense, too, with (50+ kills).
Conclusion: use Ecksachs and Bonfire.
A-Skills
Distant Counter is amazing.
Attack 3 and Attack/Def +2 are equally as good and have, like, 7 kills fewer than LaD 3 without making him vulnerable.
Fury 3 doesn't increase kills or improve defense. Ignore.
LaD 3 improves kills BARELY, not worth the miniscule amount, especially with specials ready. Ignore.
Deathblow 3 only improves Brave Sword+ and only adds 3 kills over LaD 3. Ignore.
B-Skills

I was considering feeding him Stahl or Arthur to pick up swap and either hp+4 or def+2. I ended up going with def+2 since I have a ton of Stahls and now he has 2 more defense and more mobility. Hey thanks, and you're welcome! I made a typo, btw, when saying Brave Sword + is, "...the better sword on Offense by a fairly wide margin...but only when Special" I meant to say "IS NOT" procced instead of "is." Ecksachs is the better sword on defense and the difference between Bonfire Ecksachs and Bonfire Brave Sword+ is about 3 kills in Ecksachs favor.
As for using him on the Armor Team...it's always rough. Since this isn't a "blade tome" meme, having Fortify/Hone Armor together isn't super necessary. In which case, having a majority of Goad/Hone Armor on your units and maybe one Fortify Armor is your best bet. Zephiel doesn't actually get better RECEIVING the Fortify Armor buff, so if you're not running Sheena give Fortify Armor to Zephiel. If you are, stick him with another Hone/Goad Armor. Hell, if you have an extra Goad, it means you have an extra Distant Counter, so slap that on him, too and watch in bliss as your armor team absolutely obliterates on offense (AI controlled Armor teams are still BAD against live players, though. Frustrating, but winnable with good mages).

I finished training my Silver to level 40, and then I leveled to 40 and promoted my Bronze so I'm leveling him now, too. Looks like this. Surprisingly close to being done, I just need to inherit Attack +3 (really, +2) from my bajillion Cecilias and promote him to 5* for Ecksachs. I'll worry about his C-Skills a bit later when team-building. He is IMMENSELY satisfying to watch as he procs Bonfire like crazy, can't get doubled and is constantly in action as Cecilia (3 movement) Repositions him ahead 2 places and as Olivia (Hone Atk 2) plus Ninian (Fortify Def 3) Dance him into further spaces and constant battling. Very very satisifying to level him.

That's disappointing to hear how he doesnt benefit much from the armor memes. But it's true that mages kind of have an easy time in general but the low movement means they just have an even easier time against them. It's pretty dumb how reliant they are on Distant Counter. Fliers and Cavs dont have nearly the amount of big weaknesses of armors.
I noticed you didnt include the dragon specials like Aura or Fang in there, is it because they were basically interchangeable with Bonfire and Ignis? I did a quick run in the simulator and it looked like they were pretty much the same with the defense specials actually being better usually.

Depends on whether you want her for attack or defense (or both)
Fury with Desperation can be good for the AI since she only needs to survive one attack to proc desperation (assuming she takes some damage). Fury gives her the extra 'beefiness' to survive and, as a result, she can start warping around the map and slamming back to back hits. You can also run a similar build using Desperation with L&D3 and ardent sacrifice if you want to use her yourself.
I wouldn't suggest, however, distant counter for her. She's not beefy enough to utilize it effectively, and isn't a strong enough unit to burn such a good skill on. That A slot for Fury is so useful since it put's her at a somewhat passable 25 defence over her pitiful 22 without the possibility of merging. You want Distant Counter on units with strong weapon skill and who can hit hard without a strong A slot to compensate. Think Armor units especially like Hector, Effie, and Bern man.
I'm currently using Anna with Fury and Vantage, and it works pretty decently at the 4.8k arena, though Fury Desperation would be best.

I had the idea for Distant Counter because of how she's usually the only unit in the game who doesn't die to the strong Blue Mages in the game, so I could only imagine how great it'd be if she can shrug off magic hits and hit them back as well. Her good Res feels kind of wasted on being a melee fighter.

Yeah, armor memes don't have a "blade" to exploit (no mages at all, frankly) so the biggest reason the memes exist...doesn't exist, for armor teams. And right, with 1 movement and generally low Res, an opposing team of mages can kite and wipe an armor team no problem. Especially if that mage team is a cav meme with 3 mages (2 blade tomes and a Reinhardt).
And correct, there's actually several reasons why Bonfire/Ignis is superior to Draconic Aura/Dragon Fang:
1. Firstly, B/I are both get ~10% more kills directly than A/F. They're straight up stronger for the same charge.
2. The Dragon boost Atk. Note that's NOT "base Atk" and not damage (like Night Sky/Glimmer etc). It's a pre-combat calc, same as Bonfire/Ignis, that factors in any Bonus Buffs.
3. However, even though Zephiel has MORE Atk than Def...Aura/Fang boost by 30%/50% not 50%/80%. They're weaker as a result.
4. While that sounds like having even higher Atk seems better, it still only Specials up 30-50% of just a couple points. 3-4 MAX. That buffed Atk still applies towards Bonfire's overall damage output, too, even if it doesn't directly effect how the special works.
5. It looks way cooler.
Surprisingly, Draconic Aura and Dragon Fang are remarkably close comparisons to Bonfire and Ignis respectively, but they lose out by about 10 kills every time. The power scale is this:
Ignis - 106 kills
Dragon Fang - 102 kills
Bonfire - 80 kills
Draconic Aura - 70 kills
So, while Bonfire/Ignis are ultimately better skills to give Zephiel, if you don't have the spare units to use as Inheritance Fodder, you can get by just fine with the dragon specials if you have them (you likely have Camuis and free Femuis). Still better to get Bonfire from that Tiki or MRobin that has the bad IVs you hate. I had a lot of Tikis, actually.

I certainly considered Bonfire instead since it was gonna have 2 CD and kill 80 things. But, when I realized he needs to kill more things and not worry about proccing his Special more frequently...just proc is quickly...Ignis became the clear choice since 30 wins that became very important to get rid of suddenly appeared. In this "oneshot" meta, having the Ignis was a better plan. And it hasn't steered me wrong.
And I mean it about having G-Tomebreaker from Henry, too: there is ALWAYS a green mage on the map, especially in Arena. People need one and it is complete dinner for Eldigan with that B-Skill. NOTHING can kill him (no, not even Nino unless she's ultra buffed) since nothing can double him and he's guaranteed to double, himself. On offense, that's 2 actions. If on defense, he can't die. Ignis is procced and ready. If you wanna get REALLY crazy and have Distant Counter on him, Ignis is procced on a single green mage defense and that mage is dead, too. He and GHB Xander nearly become clones...but Xander still wins out by freeing up his A-Skill.

When you're playing on offense, a Hone will bring her up to 46 Spd (Fury 3 and Spd +1 seal). It'll be 50 with Spur but that's a bit trickier to get. Linde is the only Blue who might outspeed that/won't get doubled, but her Def is shit so Anna can just oneshot her. Vantage does have it uses for defense though, but Anna is neither super strong or has innate 1-2 range so it isn't as good on her, I feel, compared to units like Lobster and Hector.

Let me tell you, my training team had two dancers and a horse with Reposition. My Swap Zephiel FLEW around the map, insane. If you're thinking about running 2xArmor+2x Cav, make sure one of the cavaliers (or both!) has Reposition: you'll LOVE what you can do with the armors at that point. A Zephiel/Hector/Reinhardt/Cecilia team would be absolutely terrifying given they have the right skills.

However, Nino and Linde are the only common fast, high-threat Greens and Blues. Anna shouldn't be fighting Reds anyways, that's a job for your Blue. Since Anna's Def is squishy, common Blues like Ephraim and Effie can still hurt her so there will be times where she'd want to strike 2 times to avoid eating a counterattack. A 6-point-swing can mean a big difference in killing power. It can be an even greater difference in survivability considering doubles occur in 5 point spreads. It's potentially an entire Deathblow 3 or Darting Blow 3, constantly active without the skill.
I admit I'd prefer an entire meta of neutrals instead of having IVs, though.

I rolled back to back Kagero's with +HP/-Spd. It was then I realized how awful adding the boon/bane system was. It didn't bother me that I have a few -Atk or -Spd 5* units but getting fucked over like that on a character I wanted in the same roll was too much.

Yes, Desperation basically acts like a brave weapon, BUT only if you are fast enough to actually double on your target, and your HP is low enough to actually activate Desperation.
Unlike some other skills, Desperation 3 is a huge difference from Desperation 2. 75% vs 50% HP activation threshold is huge. You can activate Desperation 3 with just 1 Ardent sacrifice or 2 Fury 3 turns. Always get Desperation 3.

A tricked out Brave Axe Cherche is really fun. Reds are a bit of an issue, but even if you just soften em a bit she should be doing at least half their health at minimum unless they have TA/Ruby Sword/is Zephiel. The downside is you have to avoid them like the plague since her speed is Reinhardt tier and you have to avoid mages even more on top of that. I've never understood self inserting, but really Awakening seems to have the most dramatic clout and most narrative cohesion when Robin is a female and marries Chrom.
I mean think about it, instead of two people fighting for main character position it's a story of two souls bound together, defying fate to be together even though they were born to be enemies.
It also makes Lucina's decision to kill her own mother have a lot more weight, don't you know. Oh, and Lucina gets a Rightful King brother blue-haired Lord.
Oh, and it makes a lot of sense politically as Robin is revealed to be in direct line of succession for enemyland, and a political marriage of nobles actually makes sense, especially when the union would unite Ylisse and...Plegia, was it?
Thereby making Chrom the one who restored much of the Altean Empire's territory from the Era of Hero King Marth, not through Conquest but through Love.

The only common arena red sword that can take down my +Def Hector with a +hp seal is a +atk Ryoma with fury and a +1 atk seal.
Hector is great on offense. Not so much on defense since you can just throw a red with moon bow in front of him and he'll kill himself. Same can be said with any other green axe ai.

Here is my current score and team. Currently waiting for 688+ matchups.
Read the patch notes. BST still has an effect, but it's normalized so cavs and armor end up with the same BST as infantry and fliers. Dancers end up having the lowest scores. Try running a team of Olivias vs a team of Donnels and you'll see the difference.

I've been making teams with one person I want to level, two dancers and a healer. Mostly effective, although long term merit grinding doesn't fare well by it.
