Linde was always the best blue mage, but she's still not on a focus banner to try rolling for intentionally. All the others short of Azura were though. Robin M being common at least means he'll be easier to merge without needing to whale on a focus banner, and there's still not too many other blues good for tanking arrows and Kagero with or without Triangle Adept. Cavmages normally won't have to since they'll nuke her on player phase, someone crazy enough to slap Blue Tomebreaker on Kagero might be able to take out Linde if she keeps her default tome, but that's rare.

If anything, it's the advent of good greens screwing RobinM over, Nino and Cecilia are common as fuck, Minerva was finally featured on a few banners, and Spring Camilla is a staple on flying teams often coming in either blade or raven flavors, either of which can often 1 shot many blues, including him and his mediocre res.

Axebreaker seems like a waste unless you're using her on a non-flier team, mine is +Spd so flierbuffs are enough to double most of the axes I'd need to make 2 hits with her to deal with, Minerva might be an exception but her Res is garbage, especially with Life and Death and "optimal" IVs so any that survive are liable to be taken out by either a Brave Lance or my own Minerva in one attack with how little HP they'll have left.

Odin is actually fine for a bit as a Mage.
He essentially learns the better version of Magic +2 at level 10 which basically puts his magic at like 12 at level 10 and enemies start to take a lot of damage with 0 resistance.
Making him an early dark knight springboards him into a nice jagen unit for the midgame before becoming a pair up bot later one.
Fairly decent unit who also provides the best tomes in the game in his daughter's paralogue.

I still have no idea what to put on any of my healers either, I've mostly been using multiple Wrys in the tower to grind out his hero merit while training other stuff. Having more staff variety to prepare for various GHB situations might not be a bad idea, as is having a Seal and C skill to complement your staff of choice(i.e. a speed seal and Hone to go with Fear, Poison Strike and/or Savage Blow to go with Pain, etc.)

My "best" healer is probably a +1 Lachesis with +atk/-def so I kept it even though attack is pretty much only useful for getting a finishing hit after spamming Pain(which I have yet to get a user for since I stopped rolling colorless after getting a second of these bitches), it's not like she has any useful skills to pass around anyhow. The extra attack from the merge means she can finish shit off at 34 res and under with it at least, which covers most unbuffed things. Absorb is garbage on healers since it STILL does halved damage with that low mt, and then only heals for half of THAT, so I had to slap a Live to Serve on her at the same time I grabbed Rehabilitate to get any meaningful self-sustain, so I still haven't had a chance to replace that attack. She got me through the arena season with all the Jugdral units at least so it wasn't a total waste.

Let me spell it out for you. Best case scenario.

You need 2 copies of a unit to change IVs. One is sacrificed so you can manually change the IV of the second one to desired. You do not gain SP, you do not inherit skills, you do not get a +1. This forces people to keep their okay or good IV units for merging for better stats and skills, and unsalvageable units a second chance by completely losing the unit with similar rarity.

Olivia since she's a dancer. Donnel for emergency healing via Reciprocal Aid, Narcian to crush blues with his Emerald Axe+Lancebreaker combo(and do residual damage with Savage Blow). Stahl might also be handy in case enemy greens ever need to be tanked, though that hasn't come up often as of yet.

Your choice of mage is between Sophia and Cecilia, Sophia hits harder and can survive a couple hits but gets doubled by everything. Cecilia is more mobile and can help against archers/thieves thanks to ravens, but is not much faster and sucks against physical attacks otherwise.

I don't understand how people say Echoes has bad gameplay.
Maps? Enemy placement? Yeah, maybe. It feels way too crammed and over-packed with enemies ala Awakening. That's to be expected, that's how it was in Gaiden.

But Gameplay? The actual MECHANICS themselves are very nice. If you changed around the maps, the core gameplay would really shine. There's really nothing wrong with it, either. Feels like a natural progression for the 3Ds games.
Don't confuse bad maps with bad mechanics.
