The thread is dedicated to all games about building machines and systems out of blocks, in space or otherwise. Also, all these games are ded. Only ded games may join, otherwise they must have their own thread.
Whether or not a game belongs in /egg/ is a case by case matter, however games that would belong in /svgg/, space voxel games general, are automatically considered /egg/

WebM for physicians:
>gitgud.io/nixx/WebMConverter.git

List of currently known and vaguely not as dead /egg/ games (this list is not fully inclusive and if you think a game might belong here, feel free to ask):
>Algodoo
>Avorion
>Besiege
>Chode - Children of Ded Earf
>Empyrion - Galactic Survival
>Factorio
>From the Depths
>Garry's Mod
>GearBlocks
>Homebrew - Vehicle Sandbox
>Infinifactory
>Intersteller Rift
>KOHCTPYKTOP: Engineer of the People
>Machinecraft
>REM
>Robocraft
>Robot Arena 2
>Scrap Mechanic
>SHENZEN I/O
>Space Engineers
>SpaceChem
>StarMade

Games that are definitely not /egg/:
>Minecraft
>The general that quite literally cannot be named. The Mexican scam artist one. With the shitposters. Fuck off.
>Shadowverse, found in the shadowverse general, /svg/, not in this general.

Information about these games, such as where to get them if they're not on steam, trailers, /egg/ conquered/hosted servers, and other shit can be found in this pad:

Again, this isn't about your thread being named /svgg/, but about you literally having /svg/ in the thread OP and getting flagged by the automatic filter as /svg/.
Also, today is the first time I've ever seen /svgg/ in my catalog, so you must've changed something with this thread. It didn't use to pick it up automatically until today.
But do not fear, I have figured out something that both you and us can use.

>>173797030
>you must've changed something with this thread. It didn't use to pick it up automatically until today
The current OP features a line, which you yourself happen to quote:

>Shadowverse, found in the shadowverse general, /svg/, not in this general.
Usually it reads
>Hearthstone, found in the hearthstone general, /hsg/, not in this general.

/fags/
Whatever would be good, you picked something that was a subset of already used abbreviation, as previous /egg/anon said, you brought it upon yerselves.

You are correct that something changed, there wasn't the part about this not being /svg/, but it was cleverly added, because of people like you mass-spaming us. Simillar to /hsg/.

And the worst thing is, I think you are not in a thread you wanted to be in, this is /egg/, formerly /svgg/, the shadowverse general (/svg/, for whatever reason) might be what you're looking for

I didn't -randomly- stumble upon this thread and think "Whoa, this isn't the Shadowverse general I was looking for! I've been fooled!", I came here with the specific purpose to complain about you guys having /svg/ in the thread OP and showing up on my filter.
That's literally it.
I've already figured out anyway how to circumvent the problem by just hiding anything with /egg/ in the name anyway, so at this point I'm only here to argue for the sake of arguing since you guys keep misinterpreting what I'm saying.

So I rebuilt my original frigate now I've had a bit more practice. Looks a little less shit IMO. Doesn't deal quite the same amount of damage via missiles, but I think the consistent DPS from the main gun makes up for it.

I found the particle gun to be good, but really, really inconsistent. And I didn't know how to design a ship properly back then.

Strange how much of a difference 50-70 hours of practice makes.

CLANG has struck my new creation though. I don't know why, because 99% of this craft was built with symmetry on, but there is a serious fucking list to the right for no discernible reason.

Got so bad it was just capsizing while stationary, so I stapled a load of lead to the bottom of the hull, then attached some jet engines. Now it's a bit fucky when it turns, but it gets the job done. Save for when the gun doesn't have enough depression, but hey, can't win 'em all.
>>
>>173805157
The list may have been from being too high in the water. The lead must have lowered your center of mass to an acceptable lowness
>>
>>173806119
Oh, it's still listing pretty bad. I'll try lowering it some more.

Does Oxygen Not Included belong in here?
>>
>>173806739
I think that'd be more colony management along the lines of Rimworld/Dwarf Fortress, but those both have their own generals. From what I've seen it has no real engineering, just placing down pre-built parts. Maybe if the air flow mechanics are complex enough it could be considered life support engineering.

>>173806739

>>

>>
>>173807217
maybe they'll join "o2 not in" and dwarfu fortressu?
>>
>>173806910
Well, you DO have to worry about oxygen concentration and there is a temperature system in place that you have to worry about.
Though it goes beyond "hot, people are unhappy, cold people are unhappy, warm people are ok" but also overheat damage and state change (ie: you can liquefy gases if you cool them enough, CO2 and Chlorine are the easiest to liquefy and even solidify so you can make dry ice)
On top of that there are some borderline exploits with contaminated oxygen/water, liquefy contaminated oxygen and the pollutant disappear (google for "oxygen not included hydrogen bubbler"), and if you boil contaminated water you create clean steam and dirt.
>>
>>173807217
No, it died a while back due to literal redditors and a futafag.
>>
>>173806910
Yeah I think if they refine the mechanics of their fluid dynamics for gas and liquids, and provide more tools for manipulating the creatures (though you can presently build around them to include them in your systems), it would fit better here. In its current state, though, I agree; its engineering aspects are not very intensive

>>
>>173831305
THEY PATCHED OUT CHAOS ENGINE?
>>
>>173831305
Is it even possible to 'patch out' the chaos engine?
The basis of it is simply a lot of [spinning saw's speed] + [spinning saw's speed] + [spinning saw's speed] etc., with the flaming ball added on the end simply to give it weight (which didn't really make much difference once the physics engine started killing itself due to the speed created).
>>
>>173831731
They could simply set a maximum RPM for the spinning saw

Wooden wheels have a maximum RPM, don't see why they couldn't do the same with spinning saws to limit their chaos potential
>>
>>173831884
How does the game engine recognise it as RPM? I thought the whole point of the chaos engine was basic physics combined with saw blades having no need for a separate power source.

Water guns. The glitch was that when the water guns were moving forward, at a certain point (around 55 m/s iirc) they would begin producing crazy amounts of thrust. My theory is that it happened because the gun was moving forward at a higher velocity than that of the water particles it was shooting, which made the engine do stupid things. And they produced even more thrust if you added fire to turn them into steam scramjets

And thanks to troll physics, water guns hitting the machine they were attached to would propel it forwards. I even made planes that could take off using no propulsion other than water guns pointing forwards, and once in the air the scramjet glitch kicked in and SANIC was achieved

Honestly its a fucking miracle you can swallow with only a 0.1% failure rate, anon, I wouldn't put too much stock into what could possibly be evolved, when what we have was "good enough." Only reason anything ever changes in evolution is if it absolutely needs to, or its simply easier to.

For example, yes, we could have evolved to re-grow limbs perfectly, but chances are if you got your arm ripped off you weren't going to be breeding any time soon anyway. On account of you being dead.

Those that survive getting limbs removed long enough to breed were those where the limb scarred over permanently, quickly.

>>
>>173868476
Your question was answered: sorters are the only blocks which can restrict item movement in any way.
It's just a shame that the answer to your question does not solve your problem, huh.

One possibility is that you've fucked up and there's a connector pathway somewhere, which is not blocked by a sorter.
Another is that scripts completely ignore sorters, and as such cannot be limited by them - in which case you fucked up by having the script enabled during transfers (or not otherwise limiting it).
At least you were able to solve the latter issue yourself. I am however left wondering why you're using a sorter script *and* sorter blocks.

Considering the frequency at which they break established game rules, I wouldn't be surprised to find that scripts can move items between two non-connected containers on the same grid.
>>
>>173869837
The sorters are to drain materials to a grid that is not sorted. It's literally conveyor network>sorter-out>conveyor junction with a connector docked to the next grid>sorter-in>network

When I can get in-game I'm going to try fiddling with the [TIM DOCK] tag, but the way I was reading it I'm not sure if that will just disable sorting across grids or disable inventory transfer in total.

As far as moving items between disconnected grids, Ced had a wireless cargo transfer mod, but I understand that it's currently brok to hell. I wonder if it's possible to do such a thing with scripts for ships in radio contact.

Station isn't my project so I'm not going to go tagging it all willynilly, and I would have to retag all of my inventories with arbitrarily low priorities. If I set maximums to 0 or would have to be for every single inventory item like drills, and all ship functions would clog when not docked. I just need a one-way dump function.

You were the one that strolled in here with a inferiority complex with "huh, my serber was better than your serber. nothin personnel kid", and you are still assuring that "huh, my insistance on making things take unnecessarily long is much superior to your, therefore your claim to be "autistic" is wrong, and basically im too cool for you".

People who play on the serb are mostly from Burgerland or play during burger-time.
And we have been building a massive ass shippo for around a week that is still not complete. I wonder how many months it have taken on 1/1/1...
>>
>>173897241
It might takes months if you're a useless fag but I thought these were eggmen we're talking about, not afraid of default game settings.
>>
>>173897543
Because the default game settings are inefficient.
The only difference between putting down a fully welded heavy iron block every second and every 10 seconds is time.
We also have nothing to prove to ourselves so we don't have to play on a purposely more time-consuming settings, as they are not easier, but longer.

Space is a hard vacuum, seconded only by your mother going down on a dick.
As you'd know, a vacuum is simply an absence of pressure (which is caused by gas), and by extension an absence of matter.
Given that the former's statement likely only applies to "conventional" matter, the two sides are not mutually exclusive.

However, the latter claim about dark matter is dubious.
Even though "space" might contain dark matter, it might not be omnipresent.

99% of games have shit tier tutorials. One notable exception is deus ex, where the tutorial level teaches you everything about the game with 0 hand holding and only a few tips (there is an optional training section though, similar to half life).
>>
>>173954556
If you want the tracks to stay parallel with the main body:
>One strut between track and body, hinged at both ends
>Two springs parallel with the strut, one above, one below

If you are fine with track changing angle slightly:
>Two struts forming triangle between track and body, wide end on track, 'pointy' end on body and hinged
>Same spring system as the other

Keep in mind this is imagined looking forwards along the vehicle, so even with the first system you'll want at least two struts involved.
>>
>>173958810
>there is an optional training section though, similar to half life
>found that out after beating the game
>getting stuck on Xen for ages until I found out by accident how to long jump

meh

Super Mario Bros. is a better example of how well it teaches you everything without actually telling you anything in its first level.
>>
>>173959552
brobably, but it's also way down on mechanics complexity scale combared to even HL. Platformers don't need tutorials, see also super meat boy.
>>
>>173960110
>Platformers don't need tutorials
You gotta put things in their context. This game was intended for people who had never played video games, or platformers at least. It defined so many rules that we're still using in platformer nowadays.

Also, Super Meat Boy's first few levels are totally tutorials. Good tutorials are invisible.

An actual game without tutorial would be Dwarf Fortress, or Minecraft (until they add those in-game recipe books)
>>
>>173960398
>This game was intended for people who had never played video games, or platformers at least
Funny that, because every game in recent memory assumes the same of the player. Take a drink each time "use mouse/left analog stick to look around" message pops up.
>>
>>173960504
I find that ironic myself. As I've played every pokémon games from Red/Blue to X/Y, I'm amazed at how each successive games act like the player is even more of a dumbass.

Then again nowadays they've got guys who's jobs are to make customer studies on video game players and figure out how to reach to the largest possible number of people, and they probably reached the conclusion that as most people are idiots, you need games to pander to idiots now more than ever.

This is also why Rain World is my game of the year so far. It says "fuck" to all that.

Is there an engineering game that let's me build anything that is not static? I mean, the ideal game would probably be a combination of Minecraft (even though it is not considered an engineering game, but for the building part), Factorio, and whatever games exist that let me build working vehicles, planes, boats, spaceships, etc, but I'm not sure there is one. Most seem to concentrate on one thing.

For example I played Poly Bridge a few days ago (I haven't seen it mentioned here but I think it actually fits the criteria), and while it's fun to come up with a functioning bridge, it feels underwhelming not being able to use it for something bigger. You could build a beautiful bridge in Minecraft/LEGO Worlds/whatever but there would be no physics.

So what would be the closest game like that? (sorry for my English)

It might be designed to look like one, but it's obviously a stat sheet for one of FASA corporation's games.

Presumably, it's fucking it something in the encryption function, perhaps a few steps ahead of it. So instead of looking for (BULLSHITX), it looks for (BULLSHITY). This is how a lot of homebrew programs work, looking for minor vulnerabilities where code doesn't check itself.

I wish there was a mod for factorio that added decay to research or something similar

current system

>can finish all red/green research by simply waiting

mod system

It would certainly bring the skill ceiling up. It'd be like a strategy game forcing you to move every few minutes to survive.

Like homeworld.

I have a few non-autist friends that just barely managed to get to hand producing power armor mk2 80 hours in, and changing how research currently works would totally close the game off to them.

aren't turboprop designs slower?
>>
>>174164124
Slower than jet engines, yes. But they're also much more efficient at subsonic speeds
>>

Turboprops are literally turbofans but with propellers. They're excellent. Highly efficient. Very powerful. That AT-6 would give any WWII fighter a run for its money.

>That AT-6 would give any WWII fighter a run for its money
I'd certainly expect 70 years of technological advancements would provide an edge.
>>
>>174165884
Late war fighters still represent the fastest, most powerful propjobs to ever fly. Those engines remain no joke to this very day. THe only reason the Texan can keep up really is the weight savings of the turboprop over a huge radial or a merlin.

You won't have to make constant adjustments to keep a plane flying in a straight line

But propeller blades create ridiculous drag and wheels have a limited max RPM so don't expect to go very fast with that kind of engine. Hell you might not even be able to take off if the plane is very heavy.

Upgrade to 8.6x. The prop blades are actually bending now.

Let's see how far we can go.

>lag
Fair enough. Most of the time this falls on bad netcode or the host/client having shit connections.
>low fps
This usually falls on the player having an under powered machine or just bad optimization. Multiplayer shouldn't cause frame dips unless someone is doing something they shouldn't.
These two are your best argument, there's often not a lot that can be done about bad internet, underspecced PCs, or idiot devs. That said:

>sandbox games with deathmatch

>playing with pubs and not friends, or at least fellow /egg/men

My point about SP Sandbox V MP Sandbox still stands. The only time MP makes sanbox bad is when you're playing with pubs, and why would you EVER play with pubs? Pubs are shit in every game. Everything you've said suggests you just don't like multiplayer.

>Everything you've said suggests you just don't like multiplayer.

Typically because devs treat this as a crutch for a lack of meaningful content.

Good times

With multiplayer around the corner it may be wise to start experimenting with powerplants and drivetrains again.

>>174181608
I'm not saying it's not. From the dev's perspective it totally is, but from the player's perspective content is provided by other players. In autism simulators like /egg/ games, this often comes in the form of dickwaving your work to other players, seeing other players boast their works about, collaborating on builds, negotiating trade or assistance with other players not part of your group, and if PVP were even a little viable in most of these games hint: it's not, PVP.

The Minecraft server my friends and I used to play on, for example, might as well have been singleplayer up until someone says "hey check out this impressive bullshit thing i made" that ends up being an immense industrial farm all run by computer drones, and you combat that by showing them your self-sustaining magic farm fueling your oversized vodka distillery being operated through magical slave labor.
The server didn't have any issues until I was the last one playing and began to computerize the entire Thaumcraft mod until the server stopped being able to keep up with my bullshit and died.

I'm more concerned about weaponizing aircraft and whether or not machines made/tweaked using mods will still work in multiplayer. I mean I'm pretty sure modded blocks like the jet engines I use won't work so I'm not worried about those, but stuff like flying blocks with higher thrust than vanilla or steering blocks with custom deflection values and autosteering might work if multiplayer works by simply loading the machine bsg file supplied by the player

I can see flying machines dominating PvP multiplayer unless someone develops some crazy anti-air solution using only vanilla blocks

The replicator sneek didn't work anymore, so I made balloons that replicate.
There are a bunch of aborted balloons at the bottom, so I had to make repair stations for those, because the vehicle blueprint tool hates actually holding until finished despite me telling it to.

Anon, what the fuck I'm supposed to see here? Is that some kind of gray goo attempt?

Actually I think I'm gonna try to build some AA platform to shoot down my planes. Just need to place it near the route the plane follows after taking off and shoot stuff at it when its close enough

It's likely going to rely heavily on mods but whatevs, it should be fun

SO I took the Twin Guard's Sneek and added the following: A vehicle blueprint spawner set to release only when done, an automated control block to activate it every 30 seconds (As I type I realize why so many get cut short, the message is to fast), and 2 repair tentacles. This was before materials update and needing resources to build on the thing.
What happened was that some of them would run out of fuel, and when they ran out together they grouped up, forming "nests" that repair and build new sneeks, those sneeks make more sneeks, until you get that.
They occasionally crashed into each other and explode. (ammo barrel still on because I didn't take the missiles off)
