Well yeah they're an utility class. Scout is a pure damage class. What fucking sense would it make if they could? And it's too early to say if they can or can't.

Our main monk has also been acting as sort of an offtank. He doesn't have aggro tools but he's quite tough and has a pull/grab ability that's quite useful.

No, it's not fun. Dungeons are linear. Combat is boring and stale. You'll find yourself tabbing out of the game during combat since there's really nothing to press. Using skills is a waste since you can't buy MP potions and even if you ran out of MP you'll be resting and tabbing out anyways.

Our Monk and Priests are quite tanky in general which have let us grind without a tank and also survive a bunch of surprise DCs. They aren't tanky enough to tank bosses or anything like that. Grinding party without a tank will work if you're pulling monsters one by one and have other tanky dudes like this. I don't know what our monk did with his growth.

I'm personally enjoying it a lot. The solo experience is quite bad and exploration dungeons have been terrible so far but the grinding with a party has been really enjoyable to me. I've also been enjoying both Warlock though their dots don't stack with other warlocks which sucks and Sorcerer in combat. Having nothing to press sounds like a low level problem. Running out of mana is kinda the game's design. Mana is actually a resource that you have to mind and parties have ways to deal with it.

ToS definitely had a more exciting solo experience and the action combat was great up to the point where every skill had a massive cooldown.

To me it feels like Lodoss was designed as a party experience and ToS was designed as a modern MMO quest hub faggotry.

In Tree of Savior, near the end of the beta people found out about an oversight where you could write new keybindings to their keybindings .lua file and you could assign whatever functions you wanted to those keybindings. So you could do shit like start a quest remotely, teleport, repair and so on. All things that you normally would only have access to by doing it in game as it was meant to be done.

This shit resurfaced a few months into launch as a hack and as far as I know it's still happening in some form or other.

And people still happily play the game.

Tera and a lot of other MMOs don't realize that a railroaded questing experience is only decent one time through. It gets fucking tedious on the second time in every fucking game that goes with that structure.

Making alts in games like RO or SWG was a lot more interesting since they left the choice of how to level up to the player. Even if people grinded in the 'best' places in RO it was still a lot more fun than going through the exact same questing for the nth time. SWG was even better because classes had some of their own xp objectives they needed to do to level up and it wasn't always as simple as kill shit to level up.

This. But I think you fail to see the reason why it was so:

It was because you chose that path.

You chose where and how you would level, while these days games will make any path that isn't The Right Way™ simply dozens of times slower than whatever it is they think you should be doing instead.

The end result is a gaming experience that absolutely sucks until you get to max level and then rather than try and fix it, they just make it take longer in response to people doing whatever they can to just get through it ASAP.

I mean, leveling in RO was shit. It was pure shit. But at least you had control over where you wanted to level and if you felt like it you could also level in a somewhat slower way, or maybe you could get a group and go elsewhere to do it faster. Sometimes you'd even have multiple, equally valid places to level up!

The only good thing about leveling in modern MMOs is that at least the suffering doesn't last too long...

RO was great with how the race, size and elemental modifiers worked. It meant that you could always farm somewhere inefficient to make your future farm possible/efficient because you could make gear for a specific grinding purpose.

And in the case of MMORPGs that freedom of choice is thousands of times better than a railroaded wannabe singleplayer experience. Because ultimately MMORPGs are supposed to be about freedom of choice in a fantasy world.

Tera's leveling is about the best a theme park mmo could do. The first run is doing the story, then if your next alt is a tank/healer, you can level just with dungeons, and if you are a dps, you can level through a combination of dungeons and bams/mobs.

It's a game where the combat is very well done, but the other areas of the game are lacking. I usually play for a couple of weeks after a new class or a class revamp. There just isn't another mmo out there where I can get into for a sustained period of time.

Maybe if the game is (finally) optimized with the console release and they fix other aspects of the game (no housing, useless crafting, dead pvp, etc.), it can gain population instead of slowly wasting away. But considering how games like Wildstar just died, it's impressive that Tera has lasted so long.

I like the wildstar art style but it's very devisive, though I will say for how cartoony it is they overdesigned the SHIT out of everything. Up close it looks great, pan out and it's kind of a mess.

It also has, bar none, the best ERP enviroment. Private housing fully customizable, easily available, best costuming system, and a generous chat limit.

But yeah, because the style doesn't scream honey select like B&S or TERA it's only popular for those who can put porn+cartoons together, so mostly the rats. And some Aurin.

On the subject of outfits that don't fit the setting, at what point did your MMO abandon its art direction in order to appeal to normies?

Vindictus came out of open beta in October of 2010. In the summer of 2011 there was one event where three players on each server were given these white wings cosmetic items. They were the first obnoxious vanity items in the game, the others before that were bunny ear headbands and sunglasses which weren't too distracting.

The Christmas event of 2011 would allow people a chance to buy these white wings, given you were a good goy and paid Nexon for the privilege of being able to run their Christmas event twice per day, which would get you enough tickets. This was the first time I became worried about what might happen in the future.

My fears were reinforced when wedding vanity sets were released in the cash shop about a year later. Before then, the vanity sets were somewhat relatable to the game's setting. Characters were running around in tuxedos and dresses. By this time there was a new director in charge of the game.

The final nail in the coffin came in early 2013 when the outfitter system was added, allowing you to purchase vanity sets that would appear over your armor without having to fuse the appearance of your old armor to it. The average high end player now looked like a biker, motorcycle cop, or a disgusting steampunk abomination. It didn't help that these added stats to your character, so it was now undeniably P2W in that regard.

That year and a half of Vindictus when everyone had cool armor combinations without looking like a tool is a memory I hold dearly.

I'm going to try Wartile once is out of early access. Is a combination of digital card games and turn base tactics; the twist? Is on real time. The models of the maps look gorgeous. Still look like it needs work, but it looks neat. My only wish is that it gets female units since I never ever play with men.

I really tried to play Lodoss, but it literally reeks of cancelled in 8 months game. The forums are nothing but complains and screams of "dead game" that isn't pretty at all to new players. It may have hope if they fix their shit, but man, I wouldn't invest too much into it, for real.

Besides this, I'm tempted to play Dragon Nest every now and then, but looking at how they completely butchered the low level dungeons, depress me to no end and I end up never playing it. Also, in barely a week we are getting Heroes of the Storm 2.0 with that fantastic emoji/sprays/billionsofskins loot boxes and I already have a bazillion to open on release. I'm going to be addicted to it since I'm totally a fashion whore on any online game. Shame.

But yeah, I don't think I'll ever drop Krosmaga. No other card game have come close to it for me, and sharing the Kros universe is the icing on the cake. I will forever love Wakfu as well, and the little guild we have on /vg have been growing nicely. I will put more of me into it once my health recovers. I recommend it to everyone; the game keeps getting better each year. Man, is going to be so awesome when Dofus 3 comes out.

Shardbound is on pre-alpha, like 80% of the units and art are nothing but placeholders. I can wait for it to be polished before getting into it. There are just so many games to play. I don't want to taint my experience so early. But it looks so good.

Why no Duelyst? I played that goddamn game for months, and I still don't have enough for a nice competitive deck. Is just way too demanding on resources to craft and get nice builds since legendary cards aren't limited, giving top decks a nasty need of having like 5-10 oranges and shitloads of purples. Also, the direction they went with bloodborne was AWFUL. The game ends yes or yes once these cards are out, making so many tactics useless. But yeah, more than anything else, is the cost and investment. Is just way too much.

The game looks p2w.

Costumes. They gives strong bonuses like 15% cast/attack speed and 200LP/100MP (which doubles your L/MP at the early levels). You can trade it with other players but the game is just starting so I doubt anyone would sell it but that's besides the point. My point is that those bonuses are too strong and what's stopping them from making more overpowered costumes in the future?

Ability points. While it looks like there's no level cap for both Adventure and Growth points there is still a soft cap. It's easier to get Growth level 2 on a Growth level 1 compared to a Growth level 90 even on a new day. For example it takes me ~300 exp to get the first point while it takes me ~25k exp on a growth level 20. If you mess up you'll be weaker than someone who put their points perfectly. If you're not a minmax autist then this shouldn't bother you but if you mess up 40+ points or something then you should be worried. That's where cash shop comes in. The only way you can reset points is to buy a cash shop item, and no it is not tradeable.

There is also class abilities. If you have characters classes in the same account at certain levels you get abilities. You only get 4 character slots. If you want to get all good abilities then you would need more than 4.
For example, you want to play a Monk. You're going to want the Knight ability that increases the bonuses when wearing Heavy armor. The paladin's ability to halve the damage from attacks is also good. Then you would want to get the Priest's bonus that increases chain reaction. That's already 4. You're also going to want to get the Scout's ability to reflect damage. Or maybe you want the skills that increases charge time, you're going to need Warlock and Sorc. Again, if you're not a minmax autist then this shouldn't bother you but you will still be weaker. Oh and you can't trade the character slot expansion.

Growth point thing I wouldn't call p2w. The class abilities is, but I consider it minor. If you're leveling up multiple characters I don't think it is a big deal to drop a few dollars for all the extra slots you need. The costumes are very p2w, but if it is limited to that I'm not bothered enough to quit even if it is fucked. I'm somewhat accustomed to at least some p2w and can stomach it if it's a handful of minor purchases rather than a continual stream of cash. I'm more worried about them potentially selling rare 6* equipment on the cash shop like the JP server apparently does.
