Just did research before posting my reply and it seems N64 games were written in C, which is just a step up from Assembly. Still pretty low level, however. Should I get a 3DS XL or a 2DS just for new leaf?

If not a n3DS, I'd just get a 2DS. The bigger screen size hasn't been worth it on any "XL" system nintendo made because the screens are larger but with a lower pixel density and don't look as sharp.

The main reason why people got an XL over the standard size was because it was larger and thus more comfortable to hold. The 2DS is pretty comfy by itself.

Rather than mechanics we're talking pretty much just purely technical shit. Framerates, loading times, etc.

Gamefreak is really bad at optimizing and streamlining their shit, and it shows even in the earliest games. You can find areas in the GB games where the framerate just shits, and all the flickering sprite shit and they way it deals with NPC spawning and stuff is just... poor. There's other RPGs on the system that run so much faster and better.

I asked this exact question two or three weeks ago and I would recommend the 2DS.
I hemmed and Hawed over it for ages but dropping like 300 euro to play one game was not going to happen so I went with the 2DS for 100 euro and got Mario Kart free.

2DS is great, I like how it looks, feels good, comfortable to hold and I got over how it doesn't fold after fives minutes.

Was also very easy to homebrew so I spent 100 euro and have the entirety of the 3DS library besides the one game that actually needs 3D to work.

I would go with the 2DS, I am really enjoying it and really enjoying having a portable console again. My last portable was the original DS.
It has been great rekindling my love of some older series.

I did pay for new leaf though since it is one of the few series I truly love.

You use the FBI app to download an app call freeshop which is just a pirate mirror of the legit 3DS eshop.

Yeah pretty much nothing is required now assuming you're on a softhack compatible firmware.

Games are typically 500mb-1gb. Larger ones like New Leaf are about 1.5-2gb I think. As yes they update normally. Nintendo's system is really quite bad, once the game is on your system it'll just think it's a legitimate game you purchased. You could even redownload it off eshop if you wanted to.

Also I ordered from target and then got an email saying they actually werent in stock so my order was canceled. After looking all over I went on the Nintendo store just to look and stumbled across the welcome amiibo cards. How long have they been up?
