And that concludes the first third of the FCRS Scenario "NL_WGS Krise Punkt". Ivan has hit us hard, but his fists are bleeding a lot!

Overall I'm considering the stream a failure. Although the interaction was working and the game was playable, the stream itself was plagued by major technical issues from video quality to sound lagging. Slow paced nature of the game itself also noticeably bored most people who ended up leaving halfway through.
Although it was fun, I don't think I will be doing something like this again as it's not really my passion to stream vidya. I will likely cover the rest of the scenario in an AAR posted here and on the Matrix forums.

it's probably my favorite new thing in the game, and it mostly seems fine to me. I definitely like it more than command zones with 1-2 obvious pieces of cover to put your CV in

biggest issue I have with it is it really requires you to spread out and hold a lot of ground, which is annoying to do when the economy is such a slow trickle and you only get like 2-4 units per card

But still during the first rush the mechanic does make it apparant what's coming, if you have a moderate force going in and they send a huge one the line starts pushing before you even see their units.

I think it's really just that powerful. it has more HE and a wider radius than a 500kg bomb, plus an incendiary effect, and it fires 6 of these per barrage.

arty seems to be a lot less supply-hungry than it used to be, too. I haven't tested the supply cost of a full load of wurfrahmen yet, but I know a full set of calliope rockets is only like a third of an american supply truck.

It's just a funky unit, I'd be tempted to make them really cheap like 40-50 points so you can just throw out a bunch of em to shoot at soft skinned targets and scout.

The mechanics definitely do, but it's impossible to tell what the strategic layout of the game is gonna be when the rest of the divisions come out. for all we know we're currently playing with the 4 worst divisions in the game.

might be good to take one more, yeah. only having two mostly-static AA guns for the first 20 minutes might blow. and of course, AA is excellent fire support, so it never hurts to have a few around.

also, the phase A crocodile and AVRE are almost firefly-tier, I'd definitely take at least one. I'm also partial to taking recce in humbers, but I think that's a lot more subjective.

So I really contemplated buying Steel Division but since 40$ is quite a lot to me, I've decided to download it on the pirate bay first to try it in offline mode against the AI. I've played for ~4 hours now and my first impressions are that the game is sadly extremally arcadish and plays sort of like a weird mix of an old RTS games and trading card game where you play with counters against expected enemy moves. It's not bad really but I'm not sure if it's worth that much money. Tank armour and cannon penetration values work exactly like in Blitkrieg 1, meaning that historical values have been replaced by arbitrary numbers different for front/back/sides for the ease of calculations. Maps I have seen are rarther small and the graphics is kind of cartoonish. It seems players spend 99% of the play time on minimal zoom because the game is pretty fast paced and situation changes a lot. I would assume playing big games like 5vs5, 10vs10 could be much more fun than 1vs1's that I've played. All in all I can't help but feel that this game is much worse than MoWAS 2, but the latter is saldy fucked up by retarded devs that cant come up with a proper matchmaker and retared moding community where everone plays some different snowflake mod. I still have mixed feelings, I would probably pay for it 20-25$ max, but at the current state its just feel to simplified and focused on macro scale management.

Robz you need fire support for your infantry. If you're playig German buy a grenadier squad and use them to hold out as long as you can while you save for panzergrenader mech squad with the half-track.

Your solution is to take the pubstomps stoically until a miracle from God lets him join the stack because someone from the stack decided he has padded stats enough for one day. Most of the lobbies for 10v10 are full on one side waiting for a bunch of chumps to join so they can roll them again, and if things go south, there's always the surrender button.

First, ranked 1v1 is always an option, with nobody to blame but yourself if you lose. It's not even as hardcore as the name suggests, there's plenty of scrubs to learn with.

For manual matchmaking, most WRD players are very aware of stacking. It's customary to join, check player stats and leave if you don't like your chances. It's common for stacked lobbies to be visited by counterstacking teams, which sometimes get a game and sometimes get kicked. You can and should host your own noob lobbies and kick non-noobs out for that matter.

That's not to say that stacking doesn't happen, for some reason there's a limitless supply of masochists and/or children who don't leave lobbies they're not suited for. But as long as you keep your own interests in mind and don't stay in suspicious lobbies, you'll get balanced games. Anyone can host a game and enforce balance.

IMO the players around private-1stLt in ranked are beatable even for a nearly complete noob with five-six games and who has maybe read a guide, they're very bad. I'm a BrG so it's hard for me to judge, but I don't think I'm underestimating them. Don't be too eager to give up on ranked.

My recommendation for 10v10 still stands, you skip the bullshit lobby games, nobody will look too closely at what you do and you can comfortably try strats and get to grips with the game. If you must play 3v3 etc, host your own.

Inf recon and vehicle recon are for very different functions, inf recon you hide in forests and keep them basically invisible, vehicle recon is supposed to follow alongside tank pushes, spot targets and provide suppression against HVTs like other thanks or AT guns, they're fast enough to keep up with tanks and they the guns to provide backup.

AAA is there to support your fighters.
Dogfighting over your own AA results in a slaughter.

AAA on its own cannot hold off an air attack unless it's a massed phase C ADN with Flakvierlings & 88s.
A good AA battery for the Brits is 4 Tri-Polstens and a command Dingo. Slays fighters left, right and centre.

I actually like the current state of AA, there just needs to be an education campaign that it's meant to assist fighters. Not stop planes on its own unless massed.

Combat engineers do build minefields under fire. They're small and not as well hidden, but minefields nonetheless. Besides, there's more than enough time for an engineer platoon in WG to build shit if it was an option.

Actually I've found that now planes will attack the last known location of a unit even if you lose sight of it.

The only pathing issues I have are with planes strafing with their guns, and that's because they like to be a minimum distance from the target before they start their attack run. So they often fly away before turning around and attacking.

Correct, though the effective AP of a gun increases by 1 for every 100m under max range it is.

However it is still worth engaging targets outside of your effective range, due to the importance of the stress mechanic.

I guess I had a couple good moments though, destroying 2 artillery pieces and a truck with a spitfire bomb, destroying a panther g from the front with a honey stuart, an ambush along a road where I killed 4-5 tanks with a PIAT team + rifle leader, and my artillery working non stop from the beginning of the game.

The rest of the game I was getting BTFO tho

It does. In a lot of cases the terrain can look vastly different even after only 20 years. Thus some of the challenge with map making comes from making sure you're historically accurate in addition to the rest.

Take this hexmap for example. I had to omit a lot of urban terrain and some roads to bring the ~2014 satellite imagery back to 1989. Notably Rohrsen and the road junction south of Linsburg.
