Has anyone found a way to get Emil to move if he's REALLY fucking stuck? I've played this game for about 30 hours and he's NEVER moved. I've googled it and tried every solution I've seen and nothing has worked. He really loves that desert area.

I've tried this. I've reloaded a million times. I've done the run between area trick a million times. I've exhausted all his dialogue. I've done his quests. In dozens of hours, he's literally never moved once.

Not that I know of. He started moving for me after A2 kills the king.

do you have chapter select yet or not? I did have a problem in route B where Emil would spawn only in the desert, but that was after I stole his mask from his house
normally you can get him to spawn by moving between city ruins and desert and watching the map to see when he despawns
so if you can't do anything and still are on route B, finish it and he should be automatically fixed in C
also make sure you talk to him for the first time when he spawns in the desert, otherwise he'll keep spawning there

I had this problem until one time in the middle of route C I went into offline mode to hide from my nagging friends. I have no idea why that was the push that finally convinced him to start advertising his wares in more places but it's worth a try.

You can buy Thicc dictionaries from the clown merchant in the Amusement Park on Routes A/B and sell it back to him for profit on Route C. A stack sells for like 1 Million, so just chapter selecting between A/B and C and buying/selling them is relatively fast.

There may be faster ways, but that's how I did it.

Usually the issue is less the money and more the general rarity and specificity of the materials. If you've held onto your Machine Cores, sell them in route C since they go for more and you should have more than enough money to cover the costs.

I found the prelude to that to be fairly sad too. Not in the sense that there's any reason to care about those particular resistance members dying, but the questgiver having this sort of undirected grief he doesn't know what to do with and reaching to human customs to at least do something for his passed friends made me feel really bad for him.

I'm not saying it's as much of a tearjerker as 9S putting up a gravestone for 2B, but that resistance member not knowing how to cope was a bummer too.

I couldn't enjoy most of original Nier because I already knew most of the things that were going to happen and I basically had all the quests out of the way by the time I got the first ending phoenix spear charge breaks the game. And a number of things about the story don't make no sense. Automata at least is generally coherent even where it's simplistic, in such a way that it makes sense both before and after you give it more thought. I didn't care for the graphics, and the music while good on its own was choppily integrated compared to Automata.

But ending D was really good.

I didn't even care too much for Kaine, but those last few minutes demonstrate that the power of good writing in spite of short length, good animations in spite of mediocre models, good lighting/composition using the simple tech that was available to them, all emphasizing only what's most important, conveys the intended goal of delivering an emotional impact in the end.

I can definitely see why it got a cult following.

I'm not sure, I guess I like how brash she is, where 2B is mostly aloof and warms up in intense situations, A2 is lively and heated but cools down in stressful situations. She has control over herself but doesn't exercise it unless she needs, I found her to be very charismatic and likable because of this.

Thinking about it, 2B and A2 are strangely similar, they both feel like they could be each other's sisters, it's hard to say which one would be the older one.

Also, A2 is by far the most fun hero to play, fully upgraded demonfang combat bracers on A2 feels like Street Fighter

I'm still on the 2B chapters but I've met A2 already and I don't know much about her. But I saw her design and got me very curious about her but I don't want to rush the game.

She looks wasted and used exposing her machine nature visually which makes me feel that she can give a better perspective and the point of view of a machine rather then a human copy android.

I love that this game has so many extras that most players would miss. You wouldn't need to play nier to enjoy automata and still be able to respect all the lore. The OST resonates in my ears far into the day and helps me sleep at night.

Kyle McCarley. He is English voice actor of 9S and he did a playthrough of the game on his twitch channel. It should be obvious why he is better than any youtube memelord who tries to earn money playing this game.
The downside is obviously that he is aware of his character's story. But since he voiced his role before the game was ready there were still certain scenes and plot twists which greatly surprised him.
Besides you can learn more about localization process, about feelings he had when voicing certain scene, etc.

Note: at certain point 2B's VA joins him too. She's terrible at games and acts like a normal western woman. While I enjoyed her presence and commentary I imagine some people may dislike her non-anime behaviour and shitty gaming skills.

Sorry Commander, but looks like 9S and 2B really need each other more than anything, neither would survive without each other, I've observed 2B getting extremely stressed almost to the breaking point multiple times when she loses 9S. We already have the information Pod 153 sent to us on how 9S gets when he loses 2B.

I just finished the game, and I have to say I got very little satisfaction from the endings. They left me feeling kind of empty, as if I wasn't really watching any kind of conclusion. It all felt like I was witnessing what was effectively just another event in a long sequence of events.

On reflection, I kind of really like that.

I'm going to be editing the chapter some time today or tomorrow. I tried to narrow down just WHERE it was so fast and I think it was in that dialogue with 9S and A2.

I think the main issue for me was that it resolved the wrong conflict. I found myself much more invested in the nuance of the 2B and 9S relationship, especially after the E Type reveal, rather than the state of Androids vs Machines. 2B's death doesn't even result in any sort of long term character improvement... we just get 9S falling apart, going insane, and dying.

In fact, ending C/D pushed the nihilistic narrative focus on the machine conflict so hard, I found myself quickly numbed to it, because I couldn't relate to it. Oh no, the Androids are trapped in this sort of eternal cycle, being used as a constant source of machine evolution. Oh here's this strange actor N2 who is barely introduced before departing. What do I care? I just wanted to see 9S and 2B smile again, or failing that, I wanted to see a member of the main cast make through the struggle better than they were before it.

Then Ending E comes along and feels seriously handwavy. The game opened with memory backups and lowered consequence for death - then third route takes it away via the destruction of Bunker and kills off 2B. Then somehow that sense of finality is removed via Pod 042 Dues Ex Machina; the characters did not naturally reach that conclusion on their own. Meanwhile once their survival was shown, I was looking for 2B to apologize, 9S to forgive, and for them to hold hands, hug, kiss, go shopping or whatever. But instead of showing us, we're left to do the legwork of how the main cast will relate with each other after waking up, or maybe seek out a fanfic. Thus I felt like the thing I wanted closure on didn't receive it.

About route C and end E, did the game ever require you to get pods B and C? Or were there always 3 of every pod unit? During route C there's multiple text dialogue parts where pods 042 and 153 talk, and they alternate between their a/b/c versions when talking.
