Its not well written, the technical aspects are poorly done, the voice acting is often wooden, the animations are stiff or overexpresive, the gameplay feels stiff without direct input, and a lot of the aesthetics are uninspired. The semi-autos even feel terrible, their fire rate isn't even close to as quickly as you can pull the trigger. They're basically shitty, ridiculously low-damage sniper rifles. They have no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Saying the way they "feel" compensates for how fucking awful they are is a cop-out, mostly because they feel awful, too. Well I mean, if you look at say the Pathfinder AR, it's pretty much perfect at everything besides damage per bullet which is a little bit on the low side, but for a burster it's very stable and easy to compensate for.

Only real problem with it is for some reason you can't upgrade it past level V.

Sweeper kicks too hard, Valk kicks too hard, Revenant is a spray cannon, cool but doesn't do enough damage per bullet to justify how many bullets miss the target entirely. Mattock feels like its quads were cut off. Passives help but they don't really solve the issue, just reduce it a bit. It's like starting at an 11 and bringing it down to a 10 when it needs to be a 5.

Sometimes, recoil won't match up with accuracy. This is intentional. More accurate weapons tend to be harder to control, requiring a higher degree of skill.

The Revenant is a very unique case in that it benefits much more than the crosshairs let on from accuracy and stability.

Yeah the game doesn't really have that one thing to the next feeling like you had in OT missions. There is little of that, mainly main story missions and loyalty missions, the rest is just random open world roaming.

And a lot of the time it's like say you start, do habitat 7, get to nexus, well if you do everything you can before starting Eos, it's going to be 4 hours of talking to people before you finally get to Eos and get to do something, then another 4 or so hours of talking before getting to voeld or Havarl neither of which are very interesting.

I recently respec'd from Soldier to Infiltrator and I'm loving a lot more fun desu.

Sticky Grenades and Concussion Shots aren't very entertaining. They also don't naturally complement each other as well as Overload/Incinerate do.

Sniping keeps my attention more readily than chasing down faggots to shoot them with my AR or Shotgun used to.

Regret not doing it sooner. I only wish that Vanguards were better in this game, they only really shine late game once you've spec'd heavily into them, whereas in the ME Trilogy they were a powerhouse.

Ryder also makes more sense to me as an Infiltrator being the Recon Specialist on the Pathfinder mission team. I know he guarded a Mass Effect relay for a while but he still seems too green around the gills to be a genuine soldier like Shepard.

Shepard makes more sense to me as a Soldier (potentially Vanguard).

Ryder makes more sense to me as an Infiltrator (potentially Engineer/Sentinel).

It's just that there is some serious mismanagement at BioWare and EA's bullshit mandates leaking all the way down.

When you pull together a new team of people, half of them who have never worked on a AAA game like this before and the other half has never worked on a singleplayer story-driven game at all, and stick them under bosses who don't know how to lead the project and are scared shitless of the EA overlords demanding this and that and then you also have the game in question be a heated sequel to one of the most controversial games of the decade - well, at that point all good intentions and talent goes to waste.

The way I see it, EA basically threw BW Montreal a checklist of things the game should have (eg. open world, exploration focus, combat built around movement, ancient space race etc., you get the idea) and then the team had to scramble together the game around these demands - instead of the game being built from the ground up on the studio level. Without the expertise or professional direction from the middle management.

What you are looking at is a bunch of confused headless chicken pushing out a game as a result of cash and time thrown at it - not a result of a concise, focused development process.
