Loads of slavshit guns and mods to make the game darker and more melancholy. Plenty of mods adding/ expanding on the tunnel systems.

The entire AK platform makes sense to have in Fallout. AR is arguable. The bigger caliber rifles definitely fit. The AR-15 may have not been the service rifle of choice. The AR-18 may actually fit more with the setting.

One of my bigger gripes is that they tried to play off some water-cooled machine gun as an assault rifle in FO4.

This is me. All the abandoned vaults spook me since I turned off compass ticks, and ghouls kill me pretty fast since I did not know that HP bullets could be so useful.

The caves are fucking dark so anyone in them just fucks me if i am not fast enough.

And yet i fucking add AWOP and there is more spooky shit in those dungeons.

One reason I dislike "tacticool" shit in Fallouts, is it's all composites and plastics, a material which should be extremely rare in the Fallout universe. Woods, metal alloys, glass and ceramics, should be the primary weapon materials for Fallout weapons. So you could argue that slavshit would aesthetically be more fitting to the gameworld than AR-based weapons.

I use a pre-made improved LOD set, I think Better LOD, it works well for me, improves the distance look, reduces z-fighting, and generally has most far-LOD objects I need it to have (a few nitpicky missing spots which pop in, but it's a good balance).

An important thing to remember is that in FO things went to shit in 2077. So you have a level of design freedom for pre-war shit so long as things fit with the parameters of the setting as it's established.

A weird thing about the Fallout-verse is how it doesn't have its own soul. Like, you have these designs, but the culture clings to the Red Scare Nuclear Family 50s. The setting doesn't really have anything born of the events that happened from 1950-2270 or whatever the current year is in the games.

Culture changes. Shit evolves. Yet you don't really see it. It's similar to how most buildings are made of scrap metal and are half collapsed despite being fucking inhabited for 100+ years.

Just a few seconds ago I game-overed in Fallout 2, trying to start a speech-based character with high luck and jinxed trait, because the first area of the game can't be passed with diplomatic skills. The things that prove to me that Fallout 1 is better than Fallout 2 is that the former allows any type of character to start and end the game, whereas the latter can't be started with diplomacy and can't be finished with combat.

Fallout 2 is realistically difficult in terms of an RPG. The Temple Of Trials is meant to convey a sense of the society. Strength is valued over intelligence. Arroyo is a showcase of how deeply things have gone to shit. It's a tribal society, and so your character choice for the Temple of Trials is reflective of difficulty. Picking a smart, weak character is like picking Charmander in Pokemon. Cerulean City seems like bullshit.

I have something that fixes bugs and increases the resolution. I don't see any real flaws in the game other than the fact that the beginning requires strength and combat prowess and the end is impossible to fight through on the easiest combat difficulty.

Reminds me of the tutorials of SP: Stick of Truth where every tutorial teaches the player incorrect controls for every mechanic.

I made a stronk big guns playthrough a while back. Everything until Poseidon was a breeze, but there doesn't seem to be a big gun capable of fighting enclave. I spent months ingame stocking up on Vindicator ammo and I don't think I managed to kill a single APA soldier after killing the president until they gunned me down.

Also, silliest bullshit strat in FOShelter: When you need to make people happy and plan to rush, have 1 person do it. If it goes bad, have them exit the room ASAP. If it goes good, flood the room with people that need happiness. The room gives the effect over the duration. It isn't dweller-bound.

Chinese AK is present in FO4, but it's in one of the DLC pack.

It's my main gun.

Max DMG with the Auto mod is 84+, had a Neverneding Special stat before, but recently found one with a Freezing stat w/ 20+ Energy DMG.

With max Commando perk it's doing close to 200 per shot. Sneak attacks does 2.3x that and a chance to freeze with Crit procs.

I play with Survival Mode Options and No Health Scaling and that's been enough of a rebalance for me.

Only a few bullshit enemies last more than a full burst of an AP SMG and the ones that do seem to fit (glowing ghouls; super mutant masters; deathclaws)

Pic related is what I'm playing with; there's probably a fair bit of useful mods I've missed and I'm not playing with anything graphical but so far I've only had gripes with Skibadaa Weapon Pack and that's purely because it adds a turret to enemy lists that's OP bullshit and appears at any level.

Bioplastics are a thing. You can make plastic out of things other than petroleum. It's just that's a thing we have a lot of right now and so we make use of it.

In the future if we run out we won't simply throw up our hands and walk away. Sure lots of Fallout guns are made from metal more exclusively, like the laser rifle series (possibly to deal with heat buildup from being a DEW) but given Fallout's tech levels in some areas I find it hard to believe they couldn't figure out how to make industrial scale bioplastic viable, especially if they were pressured to do so by resource shortages.

I play a lot of Call of Chernobyl with Arsenal Overhaul.

Chimeras are a huge pain, yeah, though they become more manageable if you have a good auto shotgun, you can just empty the mag from the hip at close range and it will do so much damage that the Chimera will probably die.

Though this is really only viable if you have later game armor that can stand up to a hit or two or else it will probably instakill you with its first leap attack.

I actually really like the Neo-50's look, and it's fairly unique in modern media and as a visual language, it really encapsulates the theme of the fallen golden age. I just wish it was a little more justifiable in-world. Perhaps the 2060-2080's were a Renaissance of the style, rather than culture and fashion never evolving past Alternate-1955. IMO the 3rd world war should have dropped around 1977 in the Bethesda games timeline. The advent of safe nuclear power being the catalyst for change and intense technological advance analogous to the microchip and spurring this 'golden age' to last through the '60's just in time for the cracks to form in the '70's. Giving the world a much more """"real"""" timeline.

It's certainly a separate and distinct style from 1+2's more 70's/80's Road Warrior aesthetic.
There's not really any reason the larger lore points cant carry across, even if the exact styling doesn't. They are different products after all. It's not to say that I don't love the styling in the first two games, but maybe Bethesda should have ignored the autismos and just started their own timeline based on the events of the originals, without directly referencing or using elements often incorrectly from them. It would have given them a lot more freedom to work out their own flavour and maybe if they weren't constantly trying to ape another piece of work, they'd be a little more robust on their own. I'm pretty glad they did decide to do their own thing a little more with the worlds styling in Fallout 4. Say what you will about the gameplay, but the majority of the worlds design language is superb.

It spawns all of the ammo, but only a few at a time. Vast majority of the drops, by bullet count, is the stuff that actually feeds weapons. I've been able to make my own ammo patches to have a gun from one mod use ammo from another mod, just haven't installed the Caliber mod itself yet, like I got an SMG from one mod to feed 9mm ammo from the 9mm pistol mod.

How is it for vendor lists? I have the AKM Project and that added in some new ammo types but they almost never show in in vendors so it takes forever to build up worthwhile stocks of them.

I'm afraid that is mostly likely what you'll find. There's no easy fix, it's all very rig dependent. What works for my machine, probably won't do fuck all for yours. Like everything gamebryo, it needs a little tinkering and experimentation. Most of the same stuff from Skyrim/Vegas carries over to some degree.

As a rule though, Godrays and shadows are performance killers. If you're running a GPU with less than 4Gb VRAM it might be worth bumping textures down or better yet using an optimized pack from the nexus.

I'm going to secretly start collecting safes and doorknobs that have locks and toolboxes with locks on them and all the other things that have pickable locks.

I'm even going to spend a bunch of my resources crafting a bunch of lockboxes and footlockers and I'm going to put them all in a big auditorium.

I'm going to keep the inside of the auditorium a secret from everyone. It's just going to be "that separate building over there that Elizabeth has been working on by herself".

It's going to be a large open room like a theater, with the main floorspace overlooked by a skybox. Inside the skybox will be a comfortable bench like the one Irma has in the Memory Den, with a bunch of snacks like Sugar Bombs and fresh Brahmin Steaks I cooked before the show and of course a cooler full of the best booze I could find for weeks. We're talking an extensive collection, scoured the wasteland for the best.

I want to tell Cait I have a surprise for her, and bring her to the comfy chair and tell her to relax and eat and enjoy the show.

When the curtain rises, she'll see the entire floor of the giant auditorium covered with hundreds of footlockers and safes and locked toolboxes.

I'll unlock each one, slowly, while she watches. I'll vary the pace though, some I'll show off and unlock it in mere seconds. Others, I'll pretend to get stuck and start to look worried and work up a sweat while I struggle with the lock, but I'll eventually get it. For showmanship, of course.

After unlocking most of the settlements it seems like I'm always running around to put out fires, no matter how many defenses I build. Sometimes I'll get a couple attacks at once, or a new attack will happen while fast traveling to deal with the last attack.

I don't dislike the settlement attacks but they happen so often that it's become a pretty sizable part of my game, just running around getting into 2 minute firefights in the same towns.

That was a great mod for huge random battles.

Gets a little dicey on survival at times but it's a hell of a rush to step out a basement you've been quietly looting and into a pitched battle between 2 armies. Running from cover to cover with your ill gotten gains while the war for the commonwealth quite literally happens around you. It can make the place actually seem alive.

if you lose an attack while you're not there, you'll lose random resources from you workshop inventory and random stuff will be damaged. it repairs over time.

We have in-game evidence that the minutemen were contributing to peace and order for the commonwealth. The government they were setting up was around the time the minutemen made their name for themselves by saving Diamond City. We have reason to believe that the Commonwealth would be a loose coalition of farmers and cities that have a representative board of leaders that meet and discuss matters. This was ended by the Institute.

The BoS could indeed bring "peace" and certainly order back to the Commonwealth, but it wouldn't necessarily be in the best interest of the people. The resources of the commonwealth would go first and foremost to the brotherhood, and what is left over would be left with the people. In exchange, the people would receive excellent protection from mutants and mirelurks and synths etc etc. They would be safe under the brotherhood, until they didn't want to give the brotherhood more crops this year than last year, in which case the most dangerous enemy they've ever faced becomes the brotherhood.

The railroad are dummies and have no plans for the greater picture, but they would still most likely throw in behind a commonwealth government, if they were able to sway popular opinion towards being nice to synths. They could maybe do this after the institute is destroyed, and with Deacon smooth talking, but they would still fuck off pretty easily and do nothing for the bigger picture if they can't sway popular opinion.

I wish this wasn't he case and think this could be written better, but the Institute don't even care. They've already destroyed entire towns just for resources, they couldn't care less about peace and stability of the wastelanders.

I've just started a playthrough on survival with the damage multipliers turned even further up. It's pretty fun, every interaction needs to be done with either stealth(which I'm trying to avoid levelling), Jet(which I am now heavily addicted to) or VATS because otherwise it's all over too fast. It's almost pseudo-turn-based combat as you and the enemy basically get one or two 'actions' to kill each other. Pretty retry savescum reliant though, it's been kinda like playing something akin to Hotline Miami where every fight needs to be run move perfect or you get instagibbed. All in all, It's an interesting break from the bulletsponge based twattery that level 100+ "standard difficulty" entails. Rulebreaker is a god send, I don't really need press F to shit in a hole in the dirt every 9 game hours and press X to tie my shoelaces every 300m to feel immersed in the world. Can't hurt to try.

This mod is great for that, though you have to set your pip boy color to a very specific setting to make it look just right, keeping a near-vanilla green pip boy menu but a white flashlight beam.

Set all the the 3 color sliders all the way to the right side, then move Red 7 ticks to the left, and Blue 9 ticks to the left, leaving Green at the maximum, this will give you a nice green screen on your pipboy with a white flashlight beam.

That's the setting I have for this pic here, so it works well I say.

Nuka added some decent weapons and was a fun little adventure but Far Harbor is by far a better DLC. After finishing Nuka World I never felt the need to go back, but I keep going back to the Island because it's such a great environment.

I got the season pass on sale and I certainly don't regret having Nuka World but it's not as good as Far Harbor.

Really good environment, great atmosphere, great music, the Island location itself is really well done and just exploring it is a pleasure in itself.

The quests are well done, characters are interesting, they manage to elevate the conversations and roleplaying beyond what they did in the vanilla game and the main storyline of the DLC is genuinely open ended and you can radically change life on the Island in a way that you want by how you treat the various factions.

Basically it's just a very solid little world with a lot of novelty value and a well built central story.

I have one that makes my armor unbreakable, and one for companions, but random NPC armor still breaks. I don't like that, basically any NPC with power armor has all of their armor stripped off after I hose them with one mag of assault rifle fire and it's just silly.

The art book clearly says it was designed to be a power armor weapon that could be small enough in some configurations to be used by non power armor troops. Just like how miniguns are 'meant' to be used with power armor but can be hefted by anyone.

I don't mind it, actually think it looks pretty good with the full long barrel and a drum mag, fits in a power armor's hands very nicely. Just needed to add other 'regular' style assault rifles through mods to fill out that actual role.

Exploring the wreck of the old world is still a great theme; it's just that as much as they explore and scavenge the wrecks there should also be new development in parallel

Yeah this is the reason why, though I respect and enjoy the originals, I like the new games a lot more.

I'm down in the environment rather than looking down at it from above. The first person view lets me sink into the world so much deeper than an isometric one, especially since isometric view games usually have kinda samey visuals.

Much as I love the original Fallouts the visuals for most of the cities were rather samey you know? Even the new games that reuse assets tend to make things feel different. At least the NPCs aren't the same clone stamped sprites.

It's going to be fucking RAMPANT in any post-apoc dystopia. Women are going to get hungry, and they're going to drop any hint of civilization fast. Hell, there are already tons of women with rape/abuse fantasies that it won't be too tough to exploit them for that. They'll even put up with pedophiles for a steady stream of meat in their diet.

Making Cait's parents chem freaks was entirely unnecessary. Starving people will sell their children for a sandwich and celebrate the occasion.

Aside from that, Fallout 4 (at the least) has this contradiction in resource scarcity. There would be plenty of places in semi-rural areas that have well water, and a home generator that takes a fusion core. Even someone like Jun Long could have taken any old fusion core, popped it into a generator, and enjoyed a near-infinite supply of fresh clean well water from any suitable house in the commonwealth. Hell, the wastewater treatment plant that feeds Greygarden probably fed plenty of other nearby locations, like the motel or Natick, and you wouldn't need to power them to get water out since the plant does all the pumping.

There are way too many people in the commonwealth. Even if every NPC suffered permadeath and didn't respawn, they'd be too numerous. I guess that's 200 years of breeding, but whatever. I don't think that many people would find each other.

Skyblivion doesn't progress too quickly, I just watched a video and for some reason couple of environments on their 2017 new trailer looked just like Oblivion - I thought they were supposed to improve the graphics but the vegetation and trees etc were exactly like in Oblivion... Is there a way to get a custom gun to read the LPM sfx when setting it up with an automatic receiver in Fallout 4's creation kit?

I actually have it attached to a "vanilla" sound set/keyword (it should be playing pipe rifle sounds) but when it's on automatic it just plays the semi-automatic sound over and over, which sounds terribly and causes some very noticeable sound overlap sometimes.

Can anyone offer some advice?

I actually had a similar idea for a DLC mod. But it wasn't that stupid. I think the gist was that Sarah was shot down and was claimed to be KIA to facilitate Maxson's rise.
