undertale is the thing that brought you close to those people and showed you such great artwork and inspired those people to do that artwork that you enjoy. it is all tied together. undertale isnt a videogame you enjoyed then, its something else. something i dont have a word for. but its magic brought you happiness through its characters and others who love its characters.

i love undertale for its characters and amazing fan artwork and for giving me the inspiration to create something and i met an amazing friend through its fandom. the game itself didnt make as much of an impact on me as the fandom stuff that came afterward but it's all because of undertale that those things happened.
it's alright to feel that way.

Agreed. I don't think the current cult idea is bad though. The problem is the dialogue is too on the nose. It needs more flowery language, like when Toriel explains puzzles as ancient fusions between diversions and doorkeys. Instead of directly talking about players and skill, it should be about the "Determined One" that eradicates those who don't give their best efforts to stay pure.

Oh, and not making the cult symbol look like a bastardization of the delta rune is a missed opportunity.

Yeah, the cult itself I have no problems with. As far as Chara backstories and origins go, this is actually one I haven't seen run into the ground yet.

The problem is like you said, the dialogue is about as subtle as a brick to the face. Sure, it's unlikely the reader will crap their pants, but a little more care would help in really feeling for Chara's situation, where even if you know it's bullshit, it'd be tense enough that you feel their panic.

The visual does that well, particular them struggling through the night, but the dialogue then collapses the whole thing, because there is no way I'll be able to take CULT OF THE PLAYER in any way seriously. Also yeah, bastardized delta rune is a huge miss, that would have been great.
