Whitil is a retarded pick for GU.
The only thing that really matters for GU units is RAtk. You don't need a very high max PP at all, the little you get from units where there are no better options and stuff like Flict and Noble/Elegant is plenty.

Look at the unit list and just take whatever gets you the highest RAtk, stuff like Red Shine is as if it was made for Gunners. You want to have at least one ring slot so you can have GU Stance Ring and Front S Roll on at the same time, so use at least one 12* unit.

Read this article, then afterwards fuck around with the sim a bit. If this is your first affix try and do something simple at first, maybe Soul + Atk3 + Spirita3 + Flict. If you are short on money you can also skip out on the Spirita, just mess around a bit in the sim first, easy lower slot affixes are very simple.

It's not nearly as hard to grind weapons as you think it is. Take all the Dio weapons you get from boss EQs and mash the same types together for the duplicate bonus. Get them to +20, I forget how many you need for +30 since I haven't needed to do this method in a long time but it's not that bad in terms of lambdas.
