If the damage/elemental mitigation is up, Mix is up, and her Reraise is up, and enemies are immune to status effects, then she can help with chaining on Fire, Ice, Water, or Lightning chains. Additionally she brings Steal and Flee just for added utility.
She's a very handy unit.

Get Crush Helm. You might not use it later but it's the only time ever that you'll be able to get obtain it. Who knows it could be useful.
Then get enough 6* mats to be able to upgrade Orlandeau to 6*, and get the 100 cactuars, even without bonus units they're the most efficient way to level up your units. You'll have a lvl 100 Orlandeau with Durandal at rank 14, and dualwield with the shitty dagger in the next event, it's crazy good.

No matter what everyone regains 1 energy every 5 minutes. So if you're not paying anything, you'll gain 3% for each of your 5 character in a party every day.
When your rank is high enough, approaching 100 energy, it can be worth spending lapis to farm faster.

If you're not paying anything for TMs you'll gain around 5 every month. If you do, you could get 5 every few days but at the cost of thousands of lapis.

Then when they see he's still alive, they take him with them again, only to leave him behind yet again in Eiko's village. They never mention him again until they happen to see him. Quina was coded as a completely optional character. Thus, she is discarded when the 'whole party' shots happen, in order to avoid a player seing Quina in a cinematic without ever seeing her. I love Quina, she's great, and her quastion is FF IX is one of my favorite with Steiner's. But in order to make the game consistant with itself, they had to discard her at some points. In FFIX, I felt it was not a big problem due to the narrative being so diverse in point of views. At least I think so.

Rain is entirely servicable as a Breaker and partially as a tank, he can keep you afloat no big. And trust me, you can live without getting the broken units for a good while, I literally only have Ace as my 5-star base and I've kept a good pace. Rarely can I do the tough ELT quests but it's k, I just hold out for a good unit like Orlandeau or similar.
