Explain to me what is so wrong? Hardly any of these other skills are useful for a cruiser that has no torpedoes, and secondary guns that I never use because I never get that close to anything.

What's better than those? I'm never paying a cent for this game so I can't re spec, I just picked what I thought was the most useful.

Looking at everything the only other things I see that are useful for me are may be the torpedo acquisition range.

Similarly, IFHE is not usefull for Cruiser guns above 150 calibre as the marginal additional penetration is not as effective.

IFHE is also completely wasted on 203mm guns because there's almost no extra plating the extra penetration lets you damage.

I personally don't. Most of the gameplay-affecting mods (detailed ribbons, damage indicator, smoke boundaries, smoke timer, etc) have already been natively implemented by WG into the game and you can turn them on in options->controls.

You can just use the dynamic crosshair that comes with the game under options->controls->select crosshair->dynamic. It scales with your zoom so you can use it measure lead against broadside targets if the lead amounts aren't instinctive to you yet.

Also enable alternative battle interface so you don't have to hold alt to see shell travel times.

WG was actually smart enough this time to rather actively include a lot of the "necessary" mods in their vanilla client. The only mods that are left are flavor mods like skins, soundpacks, etc. tp enhance your botefus.

As far as mods that directly affect your ability to play the game competently, there's not really much left to be desired.

I think all the important ones have been integrated into the native client already. There are some that I still like getting like moving some of the UI elements around but that's just me.

One of the things that I find actually very useful is player panel mods. It actually lets you see what ships are on which teams, their HP bars, and the names of the players playing them. This would be less of a problem to not have but WG, in its infinite wisdom, decided that clantags should take up most of the space dedicated to your name, so yeah. Especially when Ranked Battles is going on, there are some players whose names you literally can't see in the player panel or in that screen you get when you hit Tab.

It definitely take a lot of initial investment to do things properly, like a good airbrush that costs several hundred $, and the paints are pretty expensive too. There's a lot of other minor tools and such that are good to have as well, like high quality sprue cutters, pliers, tweezers, etc, especially when working with photo etch parts.

Well it's over ~8 years now since I've been into modelling. I only recently started doing ships though.

The ship I'm working on right now only cost ~$20, but the photo etch set for it was around $40.

Larger scale ships are a lot more expensive though, for example this USS Indianapolis cost over $200 to build, as the photo etch set for it was $150 while the kit itself was only $50. It's a pretty expensive hobby.

I have a lot more than that though, I have another rack full of enamels and weathering stuff too. I've probably put nearly $10k into the hobby over the years.

I have so many ships in my backlog though, I have a 1/350 Prinz Eugen which I haven't even started yet, a 1/350 Scharnhorst which I started but stopped working on last year, as well as a bunch of 1/700 kits. I try to finish what I start from now on though.

I'm an amateur modeler myself (started when i was in my early teens but never elevated to 'professional level'), and i built mostly tanks and helicopters in 1/72 scale due to lack of space.
I've built a Prinz Eugen in 1/700 last year and it came out quite nicely despite having used brushes and lacking photoetched parts (though that was offset by the good quality of the Trumpeter set).

The Prinz Eugen kit is a newer tooled kit from 2009, it's not an old kit in any way. That said, the base kit isn't the best detailed, and the photo etch that comes with Trumpeter kits is garbage, therefore to get the most detail you need an aftermarket set. I prefer Flyhawk's because they're relatively cheap to import form China and the quality of the etching is pretty great. Their instructions are the only let down.

Modern Trumpeter kits are pretty good, they're not the best or top brand out there, but they produce the most subjects out of any company. They get a fair bit of criticism now and then for accuracy however.

That's the inherent problem with any tournament with no entry requirements and a small community. The shark among them is a shoe in to win and everyone else is likely just going to get gobbled up.

No matter what group of players you arbitrarily ban there's always going to be players that have a better chance at winning. Say you ban the 65%s, now it's just the 60-64% players that are probably going to win, how is that fair for everyone else too, better ban everyone with a positive WR just to give people a chance.
