Honestly, I also just don't think the concept of big friend doing stuff for you with indirect controls translates to fun gameplay very well.

It kind of looked like they went to Kamiya and said "make us something with a giant animal friend that we can take on The Last Guardian with". Kamiya took forever trying to make the concept fun, TLG actually released, and the higher ups decided the moment had passed.

Caim and Angelus's role was actually pretty emotional though.

The (true) ending of Automata is beautiful and I'd rather it be left alone. It's incredibly rare to get such a worthy sequel to a great game that I'd not count on it happening again. It's better to leave that saga closed outside of some small DLC maybe to expand on some elements already introduced rather than a whole new entry that could tarnish the conclusion I'm very content with personally.

I'd rather he worked on a whole new series and see what he comes up with.

Speaking of that bot, the record of that beast machine it had you kill was written in all caps, just like the animal-loving bot spoke. It claimed to not be aware of the beast bot, but I still find that kind of weird.
I'll have to go back and check, but I'm tempted to say he knew the bot, took a liking to real animals and abandoned the imitation.
Or maybe all bots related to the wilderness speak/write in all caps.

>>172469529
I had a chuckle when Pascal's village was on fire and saw the kid was probably locked inside. Then I was kind of shocked when I swung my sword and saw it making contact with something in the house. He should've already been dead.

Now I wonder if I'd be able to hack his door open when visiting as 9S if I hadn't killed him as A2.

You know, if Drakengard 2 skipped Nowe and primarily focused on Manah and Caim's stories, kind of reversing their roles from the first game as they both tried to deal with the demons from their pasts, than I think it could have been top tier.

Or at least more salvageable.

Personally, I think the mass majority of my dislike for the gameplay in Drakengard 1 comes from collecting weapons for unlocking the Ending E boss.

The rest of it is merely tedious and annoying, but going back to recycled stages, playing on higher difficulties on a time-limit, and sifting through guides to find the ridiculous requirements for unlocking every weapon was genuinely painful.

i played through everything with as low expections as possible
i never had fun through the entire game a single time, it's boring at its best and legit frustrating at its worst, the gameplay is fucked, the missions are boring, it's ugly, the music is a nightmare, and by the end i just wanted it to stop, some of the weapon requirements felt like genuine dick moves as well (how the fuck are you even supposed to find out the secret weapons when you're chasing Manah, seriously?)

it's more controversial, but i don't think the game is well written at all too
each character has the depth of a puddle when you look past their shock factor (aside of maybe angelus and manah)
everyone repeats themselves again and again for the entirety of the game and every tiny bit of plot and character trait is spoonfed to you repeatedly
there's no reason to at all care about the world
the disturbing factor outside of ending B and D is pretty sparce as well

i just don't really understand how that game took off as a cult classic at all

I often wonder why I seek out games that make me sad.

I guess I feel that for a game to genuinely be able to make me depressed, it has to succeed in enough areas of pacing and storytelling to form an emotional connection with me. So I crave stories and characters that are well-crafted enough to actually be able to make me feel something for their plight.

Catharsis and meaning.
Why suffering living scenarios that we can just experience vicariously? Its a better alternative as it spells everything out more or less and we benefit from the viewpoint of an outside observer while the emotional drama of these peoples lives plays out before us. Real life doesn't work this way as any actual situation requires serious reflection and introspection to glean the tiniest tidbit of insight that 9/10 doesn't yield any active meaning or incorporatable knowledge.

I really don't think we are going to get watchers stuff any time soon.

Obviously it's because the machine network later evolves into the watchers and now has the task to wipe out humanity across timelines /s.

Being serious on the same note, i'm almost certain that YoRHa reforms to glorify humanity across timelines and that's where Accord comes from. Next game YorHA vs Watchers.

If you do her sidequest, she learns about the concept of families. Her behavior in route C is her awkwardly imitating what she learned, in an attempt to express how she's always felt about 9S.

Apart from the twins, Anenome and the rest of the resistance feel kind of vestigial during the final stretch of the game, despite the big backstory they have to work with.

I would have settled for them forming a convoy and helping you travel to the final tower in the end or something, but I guess that 9S and A2 weren't really being team-players by that point.

Have we sunk this far already? Expressing affection, and sexual activity do over-lap but they're still distinct concepts.
Android lovers holding hands, embracing, and just providing each other companionship, aren't really "alternative" ways of expressing affection.

Android lovers just have to accept that they can't really share the same concept of 'consummating' a relationship as humans have, and that's where they would have "alternative" means of expressing their relationship.
Like strangling, stabbing, and intense hand-holding.

So I listened to the Japanese Weight of the World and finally realized how choked up the singer gets getting those last two words out. Then I got really depressed. Then I came here for a sense of community in all the suffering.
Maybe that's another thing Taro may or may not have expected or foreseen: in times of great emotion or some sort of sorrow, what man seeks is to not be alone in his misery, and that finding community is one of man's instincts.
That's probably why he writes all of his characters as a group or as a pair. Could any of you imagine playing through this game, listen to the music, and have all of this speculation in your mind yet have no others to discuss it with? That would be torture.

The Savior Blade. From Drakengard 2 funnily enough.

Once upon a time, a land faced Destruction due to the deception that corrupted people’s heart.

Mourning the state of his realm, the king passed a new law sentencing to death anyone who spread false hope among his people, with lies that the country was being rebuilt.

It was then that a merchant appeared before the king with a sword that only killed liars. The king rejoiced, and paid a good sum of gold to purchase the sword.

Eager to test his miraculous acquisition, the king swung the sword at the merchant and clove him clean in two.

The king mourned once again...

Got a pretty good laugh out of me.

No the issue is VIOLENCE AND STRIFE will always continue so long as people exist for selfish desires no matter how small.
Oh, you live for eachother you say?
Oh, you kept the bigger half of the split cookie?
Oh, you kept your save to 100% first?
Oh, you cut that guy off cause you missed your exit?
Etc.

Ending E is saying anyone thats not actively devouting their existence to others and the whole without a selfish thought it there heads will inevitably give rise to the great cycle again. Those people above? They're what Adam was driving at and fetishizing. They're the cancer that set God on the warpath.
Now tell me: how feasible is it that this would ever happen.
That shtick where the drones were saying they could just repeat it? That wasn't wholly about 9S, A2, and 2B. That was about humanity getting a second chance with a this in some weird form.

I mean it is old and gameplay seems a bit clunky. But, a lot of games I love the shit out of are similar; clunky gameplay, semi-dated but great story and soundtrack and atmosphere (Silent Hill, RE2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, etc) so I think once I scrape some cash together I'll grab it off the PSN market.

And then there's the issue of android-machine relations. It'll be enough for one small group of shitty machines to spoil the rest for androids, and vice versa.

They have no idea what's going on.

Well maybe Jackass will end Yorha, but so far its doing well.

>the earth is fucked to such an extent that it has a dark side, like the moon

It's not that bad. The axis of rotation was knocked over and the sun just never completely sets for the area(s) that games take place in.

Citation: interview in Grimoire Nier, focus on the earth's axis and "midnight sun".

It's a significantly less devastating condition for the planet. but still enough of a catastrophe to count.

I don't remember the game referencing this directly, but it's not completely unfounded conjecture: if the only issue is the tilt of the axis, there might still be seasons where the other side of the planet gets some light. But of course, it could still be quasi-tidal locked where the axis always points in the same direction relative to the sun and Hawaii is just in that temperate zone that can still support life like vegetation, moose,
boars, and bodies of water, with fish, that haven't boiled away.

Form factory, biology and the intrinsic attributes that come with being human, I guess.
You can be made in the image of humans, you can seek human purpose, and you can even have a soul, but that will never make you human.
You do not have a flesh and blood body, you are not a homo sapiens, you do not possess a uniquely human soul and thus can never be human. You can get close, but you can never be.
You can spend all of eternity learning what and how humans did things, but you'll never know exactly why because you can't be us and experience the same difficulties we faced. N2 can do all the forced evolution it likes, but it will never become us. Which is really depressing.
It's like someone took a look at the Myth of Sisyphus by Camus and was like: "Hey yeah, it'll be kind of cool to see how they deal with the consequences of an absurd universe."

My own theory is that YoRHa models (combination of ordinary androids and machine cores) is basically NuHumanity. I took my time doing every sidequest as it popped up, and I read Anemone's Memories and the stageplay.

2B and 9S are dull cardboard cutouts with interchangeable lines for the majority of A and B. Anemone is a complete non-character who only gets a really awkward loredump after her non-character has become even less relevant than ever.

A2, 042, and the operators are alright.

It's a great game, anon, and it's fine to enjoy it, but trying to argue that Automata's samey cast of stoic soldiers is comparable to a hardened older father who is willing to tear the world down to protect his daughter, a skeleton wizard homo shota with a bubbly personality, a berserking lingerie model with a benis who also has a heart of gold, and an arrogant, old-timey floating book is just boldfaced delusion.

Thank you.

That confirms that something else is wrong with the Earth's rotation and orbit than just the tilt of axis shifting, as referenced in Grimoire Nier.

If it were only the axis' tilt shifting, there would still be seasons, and that Engels would have seen the night sky at some point.

I'm less familiar with Nier and if they made references about if the "midnight sun" was seasonal or consistent.

But now it's a bit more open-ended. The axis tilt is off, and maybe also tilts the same way from the sun the entire year, and there aren't seasons?

It only bugged me back when I thought the earth was supposed to be tidal locked, and how the earth would be absolutely scorched and boiled away if that were the case, but I found a more flexible answer in that interview in Grimoire Nier.

No, that's the part that I had actual citation on. It isn't.
Taro specifically talked about the axis and used "midnight sun" to describe why it's never night.

The only other bit that I have indirect citation on is that if it is ONLY an issue of the axis tilt, Engels might have seen the night sky in his lifetime, but that's reasonably inconclusive and open-ended.

Either the Watchers have some hidden influence through the network, and the Logic Virus is just an evolution of White Chlorination syndrome.

We're not saying it's literally exactly the same as WCS, just that it's influenced by the watchers in some way.

The choice that WCS gave was undoubtedly not what queen beast wanted, as it just leads to dead humans that could have been part of legion.

You can also hack into machines and androids, meaning instead of offering them a pact you can just completely take them over, and if you can do that, why would you ever want to give them a choice about it?

I think that Beepy starting the spark of self-awareness that led to the machine network might have had more to do with that.

Though I suppose influence by the watchers may have come to light some time in-between Beepy's interference and the alien's extinction. Maybe if the Watchers thought it would be easier to work through the androids than through infantile plant-like beings so they got the aliens out the picture? But the timeline on that is kind of up in the air. So I still kind of think the alien's extinction has more to do with the network's sense of self surpassing them more than anything.
>>
>>172514608
the flower gives birth to the queen so wouldn't it make sense for the flower to be source of the watchers?

I'm also pretty sure the machine network had to exist when aliens landed on Earth. Beepy is not a part of any long-range network, I thought he was a singular machine unit that housed a cognition made up of multiple machines, so not exactly the same thing.

One of the picture stories in Route B mentioned something about a God coming from the mountain with enlightenment or something, and Flame of Prometheus talks about his attempt to stop the fighting by granting the machines consciousness.

So it could be less about him creating the network, and more about him bringing unknown variables of self-awareness to it.

I assumed the volcano god is a metaphor for Pearl Habour descent, namely Mt. Ka'al. More specifically, the explosion that levelled the top of the summit (thus fitting the volcano eruption description) and consequently made the machines self-aware.

I guess the hole in that theory is that the desert machines are still part of the network, so either they were restored to the network, weren't a part of it but "gave birth" to machines that were (Adam and Eve), or I am full of shit.

But N2's ultimate goal had nothing to do with the Angels. It just fucked off to space rather than wiping out all the androids and the last traces of humanity (wich is what the Angels would probably do), so it was obviously in complete control the whole time.
The reference are probably either nods at Drakengard 1, or/and just comes from collected data from the era of Red Eyes and the Legion that N2 copied just like how machines copy everything. Also the Logic Virus can be used as a weapon, cured and blocked. That's completely different from how the WCS works.

And to go back to WCS, androids and replicants fought the WCS for a looong time, and yet they didn't get infected by a "synthetic" version of it as far as I remmber.
>>
Someone a thread or two ago was wondering why the androids and machines would be against using nukes. Well, if we're going by the setting, nukes fucked everything up. They nuked Japan and then it turned out that WCS followed Return Of The Living Dead rules.

I'll give you that, the arc doesn't really seem to fit the Watcher's usual code of conduct of wanton destruction. Unless they were spreading their influence to the stars in some sinister way, but that doesn't really fit the tone of the ending.

I still think it's hard to dismiss the more blatant references to the cult of another dimension, but I don't think the Network's goals to reach the stars, or the plan to prolong the conflict in the name of evolution, were 100% incited by Watchers.

He DID katamari other p-33s that he communicated with as he climbed out of his hole in the junkyard. I remember that detail. The Beepy that emerged on the surface was a collective.
I'm not in the mood to reread it right now, so I can't speak to the details on the surface aside from the Hallelujahs, and the "God from the volcano" storybook using some lines verbatim from the story.

Anything that can be farmed in the desert can be farmed so much better at the first boss's pit

Chill. Don't worry about completionism. You get enough mats to upgrade weapons at a nice pace throughout the game even without 90% drop rate, and the chips system seems tuned to a far longer, more grindy game than what Automata ends up being. You can survive just with the chips that drop naturally. There's no real time in the game where farming is required or even useful.

Also, new thread time. I would but i don't know how to.

Critical chips drops from little bots with legs as apposed to paddles.

Weapon attack up drops from the larger biped machines.

Shockwave drops from aforementioned boss pit, along with movement speed. Both of these can be farmed in the general desert if you need lower level mobs.

Drop rate drops from the flying things Best place: roller coaster

Be a glass cannon to your hearts content. Farm chips for hours to get a +8 only to die inside when you realise no content in the game needs it T_T

Diamond chips are the cheapest space-wise.

If a chips level is odd (or 0) when fusing it you can fuse it with a chip that costs one more without a penalty to space, ie level 0: 4 + 5 = level 1: 5. This means you can fuse a diamond chip with a non-diamond chip and keep the diamond.

This saves half of diamond drops each time it happens, so overall using this trick it costs 1/2^(0, 1, 3, 5, 7) = 1/2^5 = 1/32 of the diamond chips than doing it normally.

Talk to him and waste all dialogue options, teleport to the resistance camp, check map, if not then: teleport to desert, check map, if not then: run from desert to Near Factory, then teleport to resistance camp, check map, if not then: repeat.

I'd recommend you stop him everytime you sprint past and waste dialogue/check his inventory as that seems to help.
>>
>>172527892
Diamond is the lowest possible space cost for chip tier.
+0: 4
+1: 5
+2: 6
+3: 7
+4: 9
+5: 11
+6: 14
+7: 17
+8: 21

for +0 you can merge 4(diamond) with 4 or 5 to get +1[5](diamond)
same for +1 and any other odd tier, lowest cost with one higher.

for even tiers (2/4/6) you need both chips to be diamonds.
