I think she's supposed to be more stoic, so it's not all that bad. Initially I wasn't too sure about her voice but I grew to like it. At least it sounds more original than what we'd normally get for most voiceovers.

Because the mechanics/routes in KH1 are basically a bad Star Fox game.
Also, the ship building is unintuitive and you can't really see the full effect of your gummi choices until you go into the route, so it throws a dash of trial and error in there for good measure.
