Honestly no, you buy new heroes by talking to them when they come to the inn each midnight. You can pay them gold or hearts. Once you give them enough you can recruit them, or if you dont like them check again next midnight. Gems can be used to buy heroes but I earned almost 4k this week from mainly logging in/playing so I can buy one of the most op ranged classes atm. 6k is for the newer/most heroes tho.

You can play a lot without spending money since I havent spent anything yet. If you do play add eristic I'll try to help with raids.

the HP is negligible but the AP increase is pretty decent, the only downside is that it's more expensive than say taritas and less flexible than heve so when you get your first piece of boss gear (usually bhegs) you end up having to rearrange
this usually takes a while though and you'll most likely have enough funds to either buy or enhance another set at that point
