We've talked about enemies a lot, but, what animals and critter would you add? I ask as some areas seem like they should have unique species but don't, yet super snowy areas have unique mooses and rhinos.

>kangaroos in the area from the bridge with the Hinox in the middle to Wasteland stable, as well as Taobab Grassland and surrounding area, will box you if you get too close before darting, they can also beat up red Moblins and scare off their buddies
>crocodiles and big wild cats in the jungle and Zora swamp; Crocs don't react unless attacked, will try to swim away, wild cats act like wolves/bears
>Maiamai serving a similar function to Blupees in coastal areas
>some orangutan somewhere you can feed durians to for rupees or to find a shrine or something

So we're in the child timeline due to Zelda referencing the sequence of Sky, Time and Twilight, right?

The sages still sealed Ganon in this timeline as well, so the sage references don't necessarily make this timeline impossible.

>snakes
This is something I wanted to see. You use snakes to make antidote, or you can use their skin for armor. I really wanted to craft in this game. The one thing Skyward got right was repairing your equipment. Hell, add some primates and larger fish, ones you have to fight before you obtain them. A missed opportunity considering how often you climb upwards, loftwings for sky travel. Maybe in a sequel, we could see some dungeons and you have to fly up in the sky to get to one. I really wish the Rito beast was a floating island.

But overall, larger fish.

>So we're in the child timeline due to Zelda referencing the sequence of Sky, Time and Twilight, right?
No. In various languages (though not English) she goes on to mention the voyage across the Great Sea and the Link to the Past. It's just namedrops. The best evidence for a single timeline is for CD-i, followed by the Adult timeline, but there is evidence for all four and details that rule three of the four out (CD-i is the remaining timeline).

More options tend to actually limit gameplay. Using one button to hit things, one button to jump, one button to run and one button to "do thing", plus a button to throw things, a button to bow, a button to block/lock on and a button to use abilities, and only 5 abilities to switch between, you can do thousands of things in BotW and people are still discovering new things you can do.

Compare that to the opposite design philosophy, the kind you're talking about, which I would say the best example of is Assassin's Creed. They keep adding more and more ways to do the same three things (go up a wall, move across long distances, kill people) and the gameplay somehow becomes MORE boring in each successive game (note that 4 stands out as a peculiar outlier because they partly ditched that design philosophy and reduced the bulk of gameplay to sailing and swimming, so you could have "I didn't know you could do this" moments like BotW is known for, albeit not nearly as much- It's still an example of simpler, less scripted gameplay leading to more a more varied experience).
>>
>>171897429
I dunno, someone gave a translation last thread but only of the opening line because their point was that in Japanese she talks about Fi (the being inside the sword) but in German and English she talks about the triforce and the physical sword itself.

>What are your current in-game priorities?
I literally only have koroks left. I'll probably read all the compendium entries and then start a new file and do some kind of challenge run while working out a route for an all-beasts speedrun since I think that's the most interesting category that will be manageable for me starting out. Shame I'll never upload it because I don't have a capture card or care enough to get one.
>>
>>171898073
I just got my 3rd divine beast but I feel like I'm going through the story too fast and missing too much side-stuff. Slowing way down for now, doing shrines, finding memories, finding korok seeds, and getting the Master Sword. Also will do some general quests I have stacked up that I need to finish.

Shit's bout to get comfy

I don't think a sky mount limits gameplay. You're underestimating how large this world is, and how much actual land horses can tread. Granted, Skylofts don't make any sense with this game, but the paraglider can be a little slow.

And now I remember my first point. This game is fucking huge, yet there's not much to see unless you go to a specific point. Fill it with more animals and landmarks and enemies if need be. Your points stand out.

One more thing: Any modding potential? At best, I see recolored enemies and other food items. Backporting enemies ain't happening.
>>
>>171898073
I didn't know about laser parrying, so I just waited until I had guardian weapons in my inventory before going to any areas with them. Even the lower-tier guardian weapons can stunlock them with leg breaks.
>>
>>171898073
I just ran past them. Reposting my list from last night, in order

>all shrines and shrine quests
>get a high tier horse or 5
>all equipment (Armor tab)
I'm here now
>all side quests
>all of kilton's medals of honor
>complete compendium
>if you did all of this you should have a huge amount of korok seeds, now get 441
>kill all the lynels for fun even though they aren't tracked like the others are
(I'll probably quit playing here)
>get the remaining 459 korok seeds
>get all the star fragments needed to upgrade amiibo shit to 4star (it's like 50+ fragments)
>hmm not sure
>all recipes? eat some named dishes?
>kill every enemy in the game enough times so that the entire world is silver
>take 48 pictures of paya's papaya

>>171898338
The wolf was the only thing that screwed me because I lost him for a sec, I got caught once though.
>>
>>171898073
Just got all the different Link outfits, trying to find the best way to get Star Fragments because that's gonna be 12 per set.

Hero
Time
Sky
Wind
Twilight
Fierce Diety

That's fuckin' 72 Star Fragments I need to get. And that's just to upgrade those sets, ideally I'd want every outfit maxed out.

Also considering getting extra pieces of the outfit so that each outfit has it's own line in the inventory instead of being broken up between two lines or pages.

I am just walking around and exploring while doing some shrines here and there. I'm gonna do a temple when i feel like it.

Still i'm kinda scared of getting tired of the game before i even finish it. It's probably gonna take a long while but i'm scared that if i keep fucking around for too long without progressing, i might do the same shit i did for Skyrim, dropping it without ever finishing it.

With that said the main quest in Skyrim was pretty boring.

But that's just it, you fucking idiot. Almost every Zelda game IS connected to another one.

AOL is a prequel to LOZ. ALTTP is a prequel to LOZ. OOT is a prequel to ALTTP. LA is a sequel to ALTTP. WW and TP are both direct sequels to OOT. All these were intended to be this one from day one of their development.

That's literally how straightforward it was until WW was created as a sequel to OOT, which contradicted the other sequel, ALTTP until we found out about the split-timeline.

Seriously everyone acts like the timeline is some super convoluted shit that requires a college degree to figure out but it's extremely straightforward aside from some small inconsistencies, which is where the fan-theorists came in, and then all Hyrule Historia did was do exactly what anyone with a brain did and said "look, it's not perfect, there are some minor contradictions, but that's the nature of an ongoing series, so just relax".

I'm a longtime comic book fan and I always laugh when people try and tell me the Zelda timeline is complicated. It only seems that way because 1) they basically made the games in reverse chronological order and 2) people can't wrap their heads around alternate timelines for some reason. You people would read one issue of JSA and give up.

Honestly thought I had much more than that, about 10 hours of that is probably me leaving the game on while eating or playing it during loading screens/lobby waits in L4D2 and DBD with friends (which are our standard drinking games). But I'll probably get at least that over again doing special runs and speedruns, and then get it again twice over after I give the game a rest for four to eight months or so then play it again twice. I also get a lot more value out of most games than most people do generally though, I have 459 hours in Dragon's Dogma (a similar but smaller game) according to steam for instance and probably around 1500 hours in Skyrim, mostly treating it strictly as a photography sim. If it were quicker and easier to share BotW screenshots I'd probably get at least another thousand hours just out of that, actually.

Holy shit you're right, I didn't notice as I was trying to read the text to keep up.

Yeah she's just dropping game names, can't hear as soon as bird man speaks up but there's definitely a sea voyage mentioned just before he does. Perhaps we put this down to zelda being hylia and having omniscience of the hero's deeds across all timelines?

>But that's just it, you fucking idiot. Almost every Zelda game IS connected to another one.
Vaguely unless stated otherwise, and the point you seemed to miss:
>Unless the game directly ties to another game (OoT to MM and WW to PH and ST), all it is, is speculation.

The timeline is not needed. It was never needed. You simply have the games connect with one another VAGUELY, unless you're doing a sequel to another title. That timeline fucks up everything and Skyward Sword ruined everything with that origin story nonsense. And the fuckery with comic books is another beast altogether. The sooner we ditch the timeline bullshit, the better. Volvagia may be Valoo, or Volvagia itself remolded into a deity. It's called The Legend of Zelda for a reason. Stories get turned in and out all the time as time goes on.

If you want something faster than the paraglider you might as well just use the sheikah slate's fast travel. Especially if you use dragons you move like 200 mph with the paraglider and while the game world is huge it's still just like six Oblivions, not a Daggerfall.

You're just making that up right? I don't remember anything suggesting you were replacing older sages. I think it might just be how they're drawn in TP. Can you imagine the effort needed to make models of the 7 characters from OoT except aged? Not worth it for a cutscene.

Get a cheapo capture card and hdmi splitter. I have an AHK screenshot hotkey, WAAAY nicer than waiting 30 sec for the fucking browser or miiverse. It's also good for headphone audio and the bonus of sound mixing with your PC for whatever else you're listening to there.

The English VA, especially Urbosa/Riju's, reminded me a lot of the sort of VA Disney picks too. I don't know how Disney movies can make me feel things and then I can just have similar VA completely kill the mood for me in a videogame. It's not nostalgia because I didn't see them until I was already a man.

They won't carry you along the whole path but they'll carry you extremely far over a long distance (like 10-20% of the width of the entire map in around thirty seconds). It's like a mini-fast-travel. If you're traveling any farther than that you might as well just fast travel anyway, if you're traveling less distance than that it's about the same speed as fast travel. Regular paragliding is already very fast regardless even given the breadth of the map- And if you have a good surfing shield (ancient, radiant and mind's eye are the ones I've found that actually accelerate on good materials on flat ground, and go very fast down hills) you can combine the two to cover the entire map insanely fast.

I mean, the path from the plateau to kakariko is the same length as the plateau to the castle and is like half the width of the entire map. Think about that, and how soon you reached kakariko after leaving the map. And because the fov and the illusion of low velocity caused by altitude in general you don't feel the speed when you're paragliding, but consider the fact that the plateau is by far the smallest part of the map and how it's only like 5% of the total map's width in diameter, and how big it seemed at the beginning of the game. You move INSANELY fast paragliding and really fast (albeit like 1/4-1/2 the speed) shield surfing too.

Sheik says you have to awaken new sages. This implies you're replacing old ones. Since Ganondorf can "kill" the water sage in TP, it's reasonable to assume that's what he did to all the ghosty old sages in OoT while Link slept.

>can you imagine the effort needed to make models of the 7 characters from OoT except aged?
Uh, minimal? The light spirits show up all of twice each. With the lengths TP went to in order to echo OoT more than WW, do you think they wouldn't add in that connection if it was meant to be made?

he can be good and disruptive at the same time. Do not use him while stealthing, he WILL wake up a Hinox before you've stolen the shit off his neck, and then proceed to die as the Hinox sits on him every time you shoot it in the eye.

But if you're walking through normal places not expecting to fight any bosses, he's great for saving your weapons against Chuus or forest animals.

You have to be careful when he's hurt though he'll eat a big hearty radish right out of the ground if you don't snatch it first.

Something I found interesting in this game is each villager has a set daily schedule that you can essentially follow them around to see, and they'll always say different stuff depending on what they're doing, like in Majora's Mask.

However probably because of memory or CPU issues it seems like most of the time the NPCs just end up warping to their destination.

Just pick up a zora spear from the pool underneat the stairs to the king, take it to the guy in the shops on the right side and have him turn it into the ceremonial one.

If that's not the spear that works, then in the water on the left side of the domain there's a Zora Spear lv2 you can pick up

Let me know if you can't find them

Yeah.. well it's Just L, not ZL that flashes on the screen. I'm on Wii U version.

Switch, cartridge

Very very few times, but when fighting moblins and striking a critial with a big sword, but not killing them, it sends them flying, like any other enemy, the problem is that for some reason in some very rare instances the game will freeze while calculating physics for the moblin ragdoll

The freeze may go from a couple of dropped frames to several seconds of complete freeze

Because monster hunting is still a lot of fun and I need MORE:

>Like Likes
Honestly, this seems like a no brainer and I'm surprised they didn't include Like Likes to swallow link up and fellate his items off???

>Poes
I see a big field at night and I instantly think to myself, "this would improve dramatically if there were poes." Bonus points if they drop lanterns you can use as an item/a better torch.

>Wolfos
This seems like another spurned opportunity because we have moon cycles; it'd be neato to have to worry about wolves turning into Wolfos on a full moon or a blood moon or something.

>Peahat
This is another argument similar to poes, but peahats make for a marvelously terrifying enemy in a large empty field. Bonus points if they drop leaf blades or fruit/veg to eat.

>Business Deku Scrubs
I know they filled every "spits thing at you" niche with Octoroks, but I miss the fuck out of Deku Scrubs. I don't think they've used Deku Scrubs since Majora's Mask?? It'd be neat to have that, "I beat him, so now he'll sell/buy shit from me" mechanic in such an empty world.

>River Zora
Basically have something to fill the niche of moblin/large enemy only in an aquatic environment; huge ass river zora comin' after you- spitting fire for some fucking reason and dragging his swamp ass around.

>DODONGOS
WHY?? God I'd LOVE to see some fucking Dodongos. Holy shit, gimmie gimmie.

Feels like the Water got shafted in general; with just no real enemies or danger in it beyond just drowning because you tried to glide over it and fell in.

There's like 2 aquatic enemies: Octoroks and Lizalfos.
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since I'm not sure how different you can make aquatic enemies than what the Lizalfos already do... but still- would have been nice to have 'more'.

Even if it was just a skeletal fish or a big fuckin' alligator gar maybe.

I think durability is well implemented, despite the hate it gets. People can't seem to grasp that mechanics they dislike aren't bad game design just because they dislike it. That implies it's also poorly implemented on top of being a hated mechanic. It's not like other games where you backtrack and sink gold for the only weapon you were using ('til your next upgrade). No, I could go on about how it embraces the concept with throwing weapons, inventory space, enemies designed to give drops, etc. But the two biggest things it regulates are

>getting 'late game' gear early without trivializing the entire playthrough and loot progression
>finding loot you'll gladly use across the world (instead of seeing it as statistically inferior shit to sell)

Current cons

>even if you don't want to hoard you'll find yourself saving your better weapons for things like lynels and will avoid fights
>reskins don't alleviate this, and there should be an extra incentive to engage enemies other than drops

>pausing and selecting weapons really breaks the pacing
>quick switching doesn't fix this once you have a lot of inventory space

I'm mixed on it. The cons could be fixed in a sequel, but should they stick to durability? I'd say no. Only because it's a subjective mechanic and Zelda games often have broad/casual appeal. But what would you replace it with? Especially considering those two things it regulates. Levels? That's often has better reception, Zelda 2 did it, yet also more restrictive (ex. X level needed for that royal claymore you got raiding Hyrule Castle after Plateau). Durability was clearly a way around that in the first place since worrying about exp is also not really appealing to a casual audience (if it's not just window dressing and enemy scaled as fuck).

If you were to remove durability, what would you do?

How do we know he didn't age a little? They didn't freeze him in time. At most they probably slowed his aging down to super slow, so that his body would have time to heal. THERE'S NO FUCKING DARKNUTS.

I'm gonna be autistic for a moment, but it'd be neat to collect belts or pieces or some scrap from Darknuts that you might find in hyrule castle or in those village ruins.. So you can maybe make a copy of their armor?

You know? Give um a situation like Lynels/Centaurs where they come in different colours, and just put a lot of love into their methodical, slow, powerful movements where you have to be fast and strip them down to finally start doing real damage?

So you can get all their fantastic weapons, shields, etc..

I was thinking they could use a variety of different weapons including boomerangs. Remember how you collected knight belts in WW to unlock the hurricane spin? Well, what if you took that with drops and married it to TP's expanded sword moves culminating with a super move?

>boomerang nuts drop item you can collect and trade in for boomerang moves

So you'd have to fight that type of dark nut to expand that school of weaponry. Unlocking all the moves + super move for each one would take a lot of farming, but it wouldn't be a problem if they were fun to fight and you only upgraded the weapon types you favored.

This is a little off topic, but one thing that bugged me about Twilight Princess was that Epona had nothing significant to say when you talked to her. I've had some time to think and besides Darknuts I think another enemy that would be a great addition:

Aeralfos, aka: flying Lizalfos.

I really like the idea of them swooping or hovering just out of sight- maybe you see their shadow before you see them- in some kind of mountainous or open/exposed area.. and then you just hear a slight variation of a lizalfo's, "greeak, greeaak" and it comes swooping down to make your day miserable.

Maybe it could lift you up in an attempt to drop you to your death (not knowing you have a paraglider) and you can use that as an opportunity to mount attacks?

Dunno, but it'd be a neat encounter.
A neat 'mini-boss' kind of encounter like Lynels; I'd hate to see them in groups, fuck.

Does anyone else think making an official timeline was a bad idea overall? It creates some real inconsistencies in the lore and the way things work that seems really jarring when you step back an look at it. Like, if everything takes place in the same world, why are the mechanics of the world so different every time? Like the great fairies for example. Sometimes there's only one, sometimes there are many. Sometimes there are four, sometimes they have specific roles, sometimes they don't.

Sometimes there are ancient god-like creatures just chilling somewhere, and sometimes there's no mention of them. Do the glowing animal gods from Twilight exist in the same realm as the wind fish? Are the twilight realms, demon realms, and the dark world all just there the whole time and never become important outside of a block of time here and there?

It honestly made more sense when every game was a standalone story, because that way they could be thought of as legends themselves. Just stories passed on that change over time. Wasn't that kind of the idea in the first place?
>>
>>171926161
It's also really weird to me that almost each game exists seemingly hundreds of years apart from each other, to the point where the previous game's events have passed into myth and legend by that point or even forgotten altogether, and yet technology in Hyrule never really advances beyond the Tolkien fantasy middle ages. Spirit Tracks was the closest we got to an industrial revolution and that took what looks like thousands of years to achieve, if the timeline is to be believed. And even then it was only because they had magic trains to influence them.

Definitely one of my few complaints about the game is the bizarre lack of enemies.

You spend the majority of the game fighting Bokoblins, Moblins and Lizalfos and that's pretty much it. No matter where you are; in the snowfields, in Hyrule field, in the desert, in magma, you're still fighting those same three enemies. Even the "wild" enemies like ChuChus, Keese and Octoroks are everywhere.

Having a bigger enemy variety would have gone a long way to making the game feel even bigger. Different areas should have more unique monsters, and wildlife too for that matter.

They didn't even have as many enemies as the first game in the series, for Christ's sake!

Where are all the Rope?!
>>
>>171926161
>>171926369
The game stopped being standalone when the second Zelda game came out. Adventures of Link is a sequel and it features a princess Zelda from long ago. A Link to the Past has its freaking name and was always intended to be a prequel to LoZ. There never ever was a time in Zelda where games had no chronological connection with each other. "Standalone" has always been a meme opinion of children too stupid to rack their brain in face of apparent inconsistencies.

But inconsistencies merely call for theories and explanations. It makes the world more complex. For example, the technological advancement. What is one of the big differences between the ST world and the others? What could be a limiting factor, even if it's not outright mentioned? How could it be that in BotW a very limited amount of weapons and buildings are built in a highly advanced fashion, yet the general populace isn't running around with smartphones.. err slates? Where else do we see signs of technological advancement? Termina. They have a telescope, a clocktower. What does Termina not have? What does ST and PH not have?

The Hyrule kingdom. The holy kingdom of Hyrule seems to mimic the stereotype(!) of dark age Christianity that suppresses technological advancement for the benefit of the people.

Why does everyone keep saying Aonuma made this game? As if it wasn't evident by all the actually modern game design principles, he didn't direct it. Hidemaro Fujibayashi directed it. Even though Aonuma produced it and as we've seen with Miyamoto producers do have a fair amount of influence on the game, you can clearly see here Aonuma didn't since he never even played the first LOZ and Fujibayashi has gone on record saying the first LOZ is the best and most groundbreaking game of all time.
>>
>>171926704
They don't want too many non-humanoid enemies wielding weapons because then you really would be using up weapons faster than you get them.
>>
>>171919526
They probably decided not to because you're basically defenseless when swimming and anything that causes you to use up your stamina is killer.

>>171919550
I guess part of the problem is that when you have weapons you really like, it feels bad to have them break so quickly.

It would help if you could store more weapons for later use somewhere like in your house other than the three displays it gives you. It gives you a better reason to go specifically looking for high-end loot when you can bring it back and keep it somewhere for later, or especially if you have a more robust system for displaying items and personalizing your house.

Also being able to craft better and better weapons as you go along, but making something that's extra durable still requires a lot of resources.

Take a page from Monster Hunter maybe and have items that can temporarily lengthen the durability of your weapons.

The thing is though, any change at all would break the current balance. The game is designed to NOT be about loot and items, the exploration is supposed to be the end unto itself. The weapons being fleeting takes away their importance as goals. You don't go into a cavern to find a sword, you go into it because it's fun, and you're given a sword as a small reward.
>>
>>171920669
I would want Darknuts that you only find within the Castle or some shrines or something. Imagine them standing perfectly still at the end of a hallway, then slowly walking down waiting for them to jump to life.

They'd have to be fucking brutal to kill, too. Like usual their backside is their weakness but even parrying only gives you a second to make an attack. Otherwise they'll shrug most of your blows off and deal massive damage really fast.

Everything was fine when it was just a handful of games but now there's just too many conflicting elements that get dropped, added, retconned and handwaved for true continuity to exist beyond lip service. Timeline nerds find it engaging to keep coming up with headcanons to explain all of Nintendo's choices but basically the number of people who think the timeline doesn't matter anymore (for the series overall, at least) is only growing.

the tunic is said to fit perfectly and be extremely comfortable unlike the well worn set you get at the start of the game that is stated to be small on you

If we're talking stages of Link's dress code I'd say it goes like this:
>well worn clothes when they were new and fitted before he became the Hero
>Champion's Tunic
>Dead/Dying
>Revived/Healed
>Well worn clothes (no longer fit and now old)
>Champion's Tunic
>the monks who who revived Hylia's religion decide to revive the Hero's clothes as well since that's more traditional than this new Champion's attire thing

What? Did I hurt your feelings?

>the number of people who think the timeline doesn't matter anymore (for the series overall, at least) is only growing
Maybe in your head. What do you think this is? A popularity poll? People either do not engage in this stuff at all, which is fine, or they have to confront themselves with the fact that things become more complicated with each game. Just saying that it's too contradictory is not good enough in a game series with timelines, wishing devices and time travel. This is nerd territory.

BotW makes references to old games. Not just island names or DLC. OoT, SS, TP, ALttP, WW. All of those games DID happen in BotW's history and are recognized. Stop telling people to not discuss topics you're not comfortable with. You do not dictate the discussion.

Putting this game in Downfall allows them far more freedom than putting it in any other timeline. Adult gives them the least freedom and Child is between the two. That being said the gap between the battle with Calamity Ganon and the last game plus the 10,000 years between that and the 100 years since then gives them a ridiculous degree of flexibility

>Also why does Link have red hair and blue/green tunic in the scroll in impas house, would be nice to see the reason for that
The red hair is because of the wear of time. It was originally golden.

Red lead was often used as a primer paint underneath a layer of gold, for example on heraldic shields. When the gold wears down and falls off over the centuries, the red lead becomes visible.

Yes, I know the timeline theories grow more complicated as problems pile up, but that's exactly the problem. There is no end point where everything will fall neatly into place and make sense, and the more apparent this becomes the less people are willing to participate in this kind of discussion. I wasn't suggesting that timeline people be purged from the internet, just that you don't seem to notice the collective groaning you get when bringing up the timeline outside of containment zones like /lozg/ nowadays. If you want to know the actual reason why Hyrule's technology level never advances even with the passage of thousands of years, it's because the Zelda series is based on various fairy tales and medieval legends, and Hyrule is a pseudo-historical, pseudo-European fantasy land. Thinking this needs to be explained by comparing it to intellectual suppression in the Dark Ages is why you're a nerd.

Something like this >>371606783

and he's right to ask for more. Why? BotW does not explain why Sheikah had sci-fi level of technology 10000 years before BotW and do not have it readily available in the present. It's bugging me too and I thought what could be a reason for that. Technology suppression satisfies a lot more than 'lul we didn't think about it'.

Zelda is not only fairy tales and medieval legends. Zelda definitely had sci-fi elements since ALttP. Enemies shooting lasers are not classic fantasy themes. 'Beamos' looked quite organic in that game, but it's a statue with a rotating eye that shoots lasers at you. Beamos are the enemy type BotW's guardians are based on. It's the fucking same thing. Doesn't that make you curious?

No I'm not curious about how the guardians and other examples of Sheikah technology can exist and why that tech disappeared, there can never be a sufficiently logical reason for it because it was not designed to be logical, it's a fantasy story that tries to be as accessible to as large an audience as possible by not pretending it needs to make sense or be explained.

I agree, I think Tektites, Skulltulas, Deku-babas, Darknuts, and Likelikes should have been in at least. Darknuts only found in certain ruins or caves and kind of like Lynels, overworld bosses that drop really kick ass weapons, the rest as just normal enemies. Gohmas could also be bosses.

>>
>>171948849
>because he has to deal with significantly LESS shit
He wasn't just given the Master Sword. We have no idea of the extent of his trials before the game begins beyond killing several whitemaned lynels at the same time, moving fast enough to seemingly appear out of nowhere to stop a yiga assassin's blade as it came down on Zelda's neck and killing swathes of guardians.

We DO know that he used the sword enough to break it and put Fi into permanent emergency shutdown mode, so he probably fought more monsters than any past Link. We also know that when he opens up to Zelda she specifically realises that he ISN'T just a gifted individual who has been handed everything and that he DID have to fight to get where he is, he just doesn't talk about it.
>>

the nigga's seventeen. he couldn't have gone through any significant shit, and even if he did there are zero notes, nothing scrawled about his adventures. to top it all off, his memory got almost entirely wiped.

he's certainly gone through shit, but to what degree is unknown and honestly unimportant. we do know the fauna he combats is in no short supply but not terribly diverse to the point where he effortlessly fucks up several high tier LYNELS, moblins, bokoblins.

the HoT easily has more skill than he does just due to the fact that he faces many many more diversity foes than the Wild does.. maybe less endurance, but we can't even say that for sure.

>>171949827
Diversity is literally a non-issue when most of the extra shit OoT Link faces is either mooks or less intense than the shit BotW Link does. While BotW may not be very hard (then again, it's the hardest Zelda yet that isn't hard because of shitty controls and "haha you died randomly" bullshit like Zelda 2 and the CD-i games), I'm pretty sure lynels are a higher-skill foe than darknuts and the canonical power levels of the four aspects of Ganon are probably at least on-par with phantom ganondorf and greater than that of any other Ocarina boss. A single guardian outclasses any nonboss enemy in a previous game save maybe lynels and darknuts, and a legion of them by definition outclasses Ganon (since they were designed to fight Ganon).

>>171949970
I think one gold is probably easier than several whites at once, especially given that gold lynel just had more health so it would be like fighting one regular lynel for longer.

>>
>>171948502
Why would anyone consider him strongest? ALttP Link had to carry a much heavier burden. Even SS Link had it harder.
>>
>>171950892
Only Link AND Zelda can, because they have the instruments necessary to do so because of magic. However, the point of the guardians and beasts was to annihilate Ganon and leave it so that all Link and Zelda had to do was a ceremonial tap with the master sword and a nominal sealing bomb to finish him off. If Link had had the guardians on his side the other half of Calamity Ganon's health would have also been shaven off right at the start, and it probably was the first time they met (which is why Ganon was re-forming inside the castle instead of having his previous form already prepared), it's just that Zelda couldn't do the handwave thing to finish him off so he had an opening to fuck everyone and end the world. It's also worth noting that if the beasts were being used correctly with the lasers (which does beg the question of why they're beasts and not towers) they would take off less than half of a fully-formed Ganon's health, and the guardians were meant to take out the rest.

The point is that if you do the math you normally have Zelda making Ganon really easy for Link and then Link himself knocking him down after she lines him up, but in this case the guardians were supposed to instantly do everything but seal him away, making them almost as powerful as Zelda and Link COMBINED just in terms of what they can do and being able to do it in a miniscule fraction of the time.

ALttP Link took down Ganon at his highest level of power. He literally cleaned up OoT Link's mess.
Then he took down two of his generals and a resurrected Ganon again.
And then he destroyed a nightmare that plagued a godlike being that had the quality of Vaati.

SS Link took down Demise, who was able to overpower a goddess.

OoT Link certainly has seen some shit, but he's either at a point where he is experienced but young and out of top level gear, or grown up and just stronger than a powered down Ganon. Sure, he has a strong case for being stronger than the rest of the Links, but the two above had to overcome things the other incarnations never even came close to.

Zelda's brother had tried to force her into telling their recently deceased father's secrets concerning the last of three sacred golden triangle treasures of his kingdom, known collectively as the Triforce. Princess Zelda refused to reveal its location, and the prince's wizard friend, in anger, tried to strike her down with a spell. Zelda fell under a powerful sleeping spell, but the wizard was unable to control the wildly arcing magic and was killed by it. The prince, filled with remorse and unable to reverse the spell, had his sister placed in the castle tower, in the hope that she would one day be awakened. He decreed that princesses born to the royal family from that point on would be named Zelda, in remembrance of this tragedy

BotW takes place after all possible endings on all possible timelines.. I mean even the first sealing of Ganon takes place after all other Zelda games.

Because Calamity Ganon wasn't a thing in any prior Zelda game, it's a new form he took on after his death, which happens in LoZ, TP, and WW in their timelines.

Between the end of each timeline and the time the Divine Beasts and Guardians helped Seal Calamity Ganon, some significant time had to pass where the Sheikah people flourished and developed advanced technology that led to the creation of Guardians and Divine Beasts.. I mean some REAL significant time considering that Impa's the sole sheikah in the downfall timeline and some other Sheikah is the only one in TP.. so somehow the tribe had to bounce back from near extinction, and develop into an advanced technological race, make all this shit, Ganon comes back as Calamity Ganon, gets btfo and sealed, then 10,000 years after that, comes back and fucks everything up.

Yeah but Kass mentions Epona's song and when you register Epona at a stable, the stable master calls her a legendary horse. Which means that the game at least takes place after OOT.

Time to add fuel to the timeline debate.

>Long, long ago... In a past more distant than even the Great Calamity or the creation of the Divine Beast Vah Ruta… There was a Zora princess named Ruto. We know that she was an attendant to the Zora patron deity and that she was a fair and lively girl, beloved to all. Around that same time, an evil man with designs on ruling the world appeared, bringing disaster upon Zora's Domain. It is said that Ruto then awoke as a sage, facing this foe alongside the princess of Hyrule and the hero of legend. Her achievements are remembered not only by the Zora, they are also forever etched in the history of Hyrule. The Divine Beast Vah Ruta, built ages later to face off against Calamity Ganon, was named in honor of Ruto. That the Zora princess-my sweet daughter Mipha-was chosen to pilot Ruta is surely the work of fate.

I never played Skyward Sword because the disappointment that was Twilight Princess robbed me of any enthusiasm for Zelda games for years to come until I have BotW a try.
Now, why BotW has redeemed the franchise and rekindled my passion for it, given the almost universally negative response towards Skyward Sword I'm not going to make the mistake of naĂŻvely giving it a chance now.

What exactly is it that so many people dislike about it though? Waggle controls? Stale mechanics? Odd graphics?

I'm also aware that they made it the first game chronologically and establish the whole Link/Zelda–Ganon conflict as the product of the goddess Hylia wanting to bone Link and thus taking on physical form and founding thy Hylian royal family, and some devil called Demise, uh, being evil, and creating/becoming Ganon? I don't know the details but a lot of people seem very dissatisfied with how it was handled.

Fi is particularly hand-holdy.

>>
>>171956975
That would be compatible with both the Adult and Downfall timelines, but not Child.
I rather agree with >>171956546 though. BotW is so far into the future that you're not supposed to place it in any one timeline if I had to, I'd guess Downfall though; everything that happened in earlier games is ancient history, and the details (that provide the contradictions between timelines) have largely blurred and been forgotten.

I've figured it out guys the timeline is actually a circle; the calamity happens 10000 years after every other game and is the same event as the great war which caused Hylia to send people up into the sky. Reply with serious comments only please don't you dare start memeing with me now

Just gonna write the gripes as they come one by one cause I'm lazy

Fi was a weak follow up to Midna, Navi except not just a meme

You had to be spoonfed at certain points to progress even if you already knew what to do

Sky is emptier than the Great Sea, utterly pointless

One town (makes sense tho)

Overworld is not interconnected

They wanted to make the overworld feel like a dungeon, and while it had puzzles the segregation and fetch quests you needed to do to progress was the shittiest execution imaginable. If they wanted that they should've gone full Metroidvania

Combat is subjective, but it is waggle

Enemy designs look dumb, particularly bokoblins

Lore is clumsily handled. People felt it weakened Dorf as a villain and Hylia is seen as a fanfic tier goddess. Her sidelining the big 3 in BotW hasn't helped this.

Plot is kind of a mess if you examine it.

>>171957187
The main issue people take with Skyward Sword, at least as far as I can tell, is that it ups the handholding and linearity to absolutely ridiculous levels. The game drags you around by the nose and hammers you with exposition constantly (even if you've already heard it literally seconds beforehand), and people tend to not enjoy that. It's essentially the opposite of BotW in regards to player freedom.
Other problems include poorly implemented motion controls for things that really didn't need them, excessive padding (in the forms of fetch quests, flying, and collecting tadpoles), so-so plot and some really shitty boss fights mixed in with some really great ones. Characters and music are pretty good.
>>
>>171957187

>>171957771
bokoblins look retarded in this game too, not an argument
Hylia in SS is an absolute meme, how the fuck can the 3 goddesses be THE goddesses in every game EXCEPT SS and BOTW? fucking retarded.
>>
>>171957734
Probably. I'm sure if they didn't want to keep the game in a teenage demographic/rating and didn't mind getting gory dismemberment would be a feature and I'm actually surprised there's no hand to hand combat as-is, though I guess that's because they wanted to force the mechanic of weapons breaking so you have to get new weapons so that you end up trying all 5 amazingly diverse weapon classes a million times each over the 300 hours of gameplay the game offers.

Yikes. Good thing I steered clear of it; going to continue to do so.

I assume the Hylia statues found in BotW are directly based on ones in Skyward Sword? They look pretty ugly (though how different towns decorate theirs is nicely handled) and I find it a bit offensive that you have three shrines obviously dedicated to the three goddesses (since you need to offer up scales of their dragon stand-ins), but there's a Hylia statue in each, and I think the one on the mountain even refers to the dragon as a servant of Hylia.

They're a miniature version. The one you see in SS is bigger, less rotund, and more detailed.

I actually think Hylia wasn't a bad idea. The other three just created the world for the most part while Hylia would be the patron goddess of the land. The problem is...

While I don't know how she's portrayed in SS, I don't disagree with the idea of Hylia. It would make sense for the kingdom to have a lesser patron deity (and for that deity to also be real, given that this is a fantasy setting), while the three goddesses as the creators of the world are more impersonal and abstract.
What I don't like is how she seems to have wholly supplanted them.

What did she do in SS, other than become incarnate as the first Zelda so she could get Link's D?

So you are saying… Hylia is a minor goddess who, to save her people from a demon invasion that is ravaging the land, raises a floating island up into the sky? And later, she takes on a mortal coil, and falls in love with a brave swordsman? Who goes on to defeat that ancient evil?
