Just listened to the video call Alec has with Garrus's dad, I figured him being voiced by Garrus would sound weird, but he manages to make it sound older and just different enough that it isn't. The story is boring, no significant decisions. You can't be renegade even, no punching people or killing them just for fun.

The whole premise is a disappointment. Every new alien speaks English. Have same technology as milky way 600 years ago.

Only redeeming factor is combat, and even then the ai and companions suck.

What gets me about the Vetra romance is how it's played totally straight. If you just listened to it without watching visuals, it would be a textbook fantasy romance, the most sickeningly-sweet one in the game. Complete with honest-to-god waifu scenes like her trying to make her boyfriend dinner, him pretending to like her cooking after she screws up, one interrupting the other's nervous banter with a kiss, the girl making sure her sister and boyfriend get along, and them affectionately holding each others' hands while watching the stars. Unlike the Garrus and Tali romances in ME2 (the former actually began with Garrus being weirded out and commenting that he never found humans attractive), Vetra being an alien is never even mentioned at any point as far as I can recall.

Which for an asari or even drell/batarian wouldn't be that odd, but Vetra is a turian, and turians vaguely resemble humanoid armor-plated grasshoppers. This is literally never commented on. Even when Vetra's having second-thoughts about Ryder's attraction towards her and it looks like the obvious might be brought up, it's instead quickly revealed that she's unsure about the relationship because of her backstory and abandonment issues, not because she sees anything odd about screwing the soft pasty little primate or that Ryder feels odd about screwing the giant raptor. Neither Vetra nor Ryder ever question why they're attracted to something that looks nothing like their species. On top of this Vetra's way bigger than Ryder, so typical waifu scenes end up being inverted somewhat comically (Scott has to hug upwards to comfort her, her hand fingers are way bigger than his in the aforementioned hand-holding scene, the final shot before the cut to black looks like she'd be mauling him out of context, etc.). But without comment.

It's just straight-up bizarre. I'm not even sure if that's great or terrible, or if the writers even thought about this while scripting it. All I know is that I like it.

I'm taking the Kett base on Eos and I think I might just kill myself irl instead, it would be less painful. It's so fucking huge and there's 500 waves of reinforcements whether you manage to turn the alarms off or not. There's nowhere you can go that you won't get flanked since even the dead-end rooms have platforms outside the open windows. I've died three times now and get set back nearly an hour's worth of grinding these bastards down each time. How the fuck am I supposed to do this? Is there a particular trick to it I'm missing?

Other than the darkness ME3 injected, the game has always been lighter than the issues it could have legitimately raised. ME2 shallowly looked at racism, slavery, unrestrained capitalism, corruption, but not in any real way. As countless anons have said, ME2's citadel would be a great sci-fi noir setting. I think the Kett Shield Station on Eos might be the first time I've ever legitimately gotten mad at a video game. How the fuck can you hit multiple mission objectives, and still get sent back to the start of the mission if you die? If you're not allowed to manually save, auto-save should be at least semi-regular. I can't tell if the infinitely respawning enemies are a bug or a feature but fuck that too.

After having seen all the crazy shit posted here the last week. I have to say that on PC with everything turned up it looks a LOT better. The lighting and character models in particular look pretty good. The odd animations are still there and the faces are lifeless at times, but it's much less obvious than the console shots.
