This is what I really dislike about 13. Most of the famous officers have stats through the roof just because they are famous. X and XI are a lot more balanced.

Another issue with 13 I have is the fact that NPC officers stats can level up as well. It would be better if it leveled up slower in comparison to the player's. I went to visit Chen Qun and I noticed his POL stat was at fucking 104. It makes people like Cao Cao even more of a piece of shit to deal with as most of his officers are at high 80s/early 90s and they keep climbing.

That depends on what you have access to then. I liked DW7's following of the novels, but you couldn't play it on the PC as a new player since the only english patch for it has no translated names or narration. You'd have to pick up a console version. DW8XL on Steam has probably the best gameplay and character selection, but doesn't do as good a job with history or hypotheticals. If you don't want to pay, you can download DW5 for the PS2 and emulate it, which is the best game out of the older system ones.

It's kind of interesting how Wei Yan's treatment is one of the parts of the novel which ends up showing Zhuge in a bad light. He was fiercely loyal to Liu Bei during his whole career, and did his job really well even though he was openly distrusted. His only failings were complaining and the Ma Dai incident. That is, if you don't count the fairy tale about Zhuge's ritual. Comparing him to some of the ones that Zhuge put his trust in really makes Kongming seem like a bad judge of people.
