After grabbing most of the first timer recommended stuff from the modlist I also picked up a bunch of the cosmetic stuff. Why is this in particular causing a conflict? I'm not a modder by any means but I can't see why a cosmetic armour mod would be changing UI classes.
>>
>>171516058
A detected "conflict" doesn't necessarrily mean anything is actually wrong. Chances are, if it's not already a reported conflict, in the mod comments or in the description, and it doesn't seem logical, there probably won't be anything. Just load it up and see if you notice anything, but I doubt there will be any problems. Of course, watch everything break now that I said that.

I thought I had a screenshot of it but I don't, have a shitty MSpaint appoximation. It's happened both times I've done a hack thing so far, both in the tutorial and in that mission with the generator thing. The little tablet will come up and the troops right hand will be like in the image.

It is but it's also annoying since it's not like I'm a vet of the game who knows what the reward is from the tiny amount of text left unblocked, makes it impossible to tell what it is. I'm off the game now so I'm hoping it won't be doing it whenever I'm next playing and have to hack something.

Why did I really like EW but hated and got bored of xcom2 after like 2 ingame months?
>>
>>171536459
Surely you would have some idea about what you did not enjoy. It's not like xcom2 was delicate about its changes.
>>
>>171536691
I dont know its just weird maybe it was the little things like I didnt like the characters as much and the timed missions and what not. Oh well.
>>
>>171536792
not that anon but those aspects didn't bother me so much. I enjoyed xcom 2 a lot and still play it, but I liked the setting of EW better, with more ayys and council funding, etc.
>>
>>171536792
Alot of people don't like timers, most common complaint. The weaker cast is not unfounded. Personally, I like Tygan, though not everyone does, and Shen jr. is disputably a weaker character compared to her Father. Even Bradford of course is different, though that never bothered me.
>>
>>171509145
it's definitely andromedon. the alien that had no inspiration in ufo and actually is an improvement over ufo designs, AND also fits very sell with the setting of alien occupation of earth.

muton close second, great redesign over retarded generic brutes of xcom 1 and purple gorillas of ufo.

because you're a fucking idiot. gameplay wise xcom 2 is an improvement.

alien designs are a WAST improvement in genereal.

design of xcom itself on the other had is pretty meh, and this is the only problem of xcom 2. we should've stayed the international intergovermental military organisation, not the fucking isis.

what are you talking about? war suits are amazing looking, mostly because of new engine. eh there are blinkenlichten all over the suits but can you honestly tell me that this looks worse than uninspired shitty titan armor?

plasma weapons are beautiful to behold, plasma beam effects are amazing and i despise the fact that they replaced lasers with shitty mags, because lasers would look amazing too.

the only problem is the design of xcom itself- shitty characters, retarded fucking flying base.
>>
>>171538243
no i think titan armor looks better than that shit tier 3 is pretty weak in xcom 2
>>
>>171538546
your picture is generic as fuck. at least the armor i posted looks like an actual armor, unlike titan which looks like something a grade schooler would come up with.

quite literally the only memorable and unique feature of titan designs was the neck guard.

still both titan and war are far outdone by ufo power armor, and i wish we could have that bulky suit remade in new xcom, but alas, general consumer wouldn't like it.
>>
>>171538790
>at least the armor i posted looks like an actual armor,
bullshit

>but alas, general consumer wouldn't like it.

Not that I find XCOM2 tier 3 to be bad, but it doesn't fit with the theme of the rest of the game.

I should be clear; the knife is useful for its intended role as a backup weapon, but not something you charge into combat with.

It's really good for dealing with stun lancers and then taking a shot at something else, since it only takes one action.

There is a charm to there goofiness. More importantly, the original lids were ten times scarier on the battlefield than the newer games. If I had to pick one visual design though, I would still go with XCOM1 lids.

If my shitteritis keeps up I'll give it a shot. Feels like it's mostly mimising damage and casualties that I'm bad at right now. Which means I've had to do some missions with squads of 4 random rookies that the game seems to expect me to have slightly better troops for. i.e. That retalitation (I think) where you first encounter the shapeshifter thing, I had 4 shitty rookies on that, they just got stomped by the couple squads of sectoid+advent dudes (one of them got 1 shot within a turn of the stun batton dude apearing) and I ended up evacing the last dude standing after only just managing to save the 6 civs. Or escorting that VIP scientist. I had to try that mission with a single grenadier because everyone else was recovering from getting shot to shit in a previous mission.

Which largely had the same problem. The "advanced" armor did not look practical. Plus that game had an action figure aesthetic.

>Also they made tier 1 and tier 2 armor as well you know.
Tier 1 looks acceptable, tier 2 would look acceptable, if it had rigging, right now it's just lolplates.

>I would like to have a real discussion, no cancer memes pls
You came to the wrong website.
>>
>>171605530
Tier 3 doesn't look that impractical for X1, though once again tier 1 and tier 2 are better on this. XCOM1 is literally GI JOEs, which imo, just is disingenuous t just label as "capeshit."
>Tier 1 looks acceptable, tier 2 would look acceptable, if it had rigging, right now it's just lolplates.
Sure, just pointing out that tier 2 has the thrown together rough look, no sleekness whatsoever.
Also my original point was the rocket launcher from X1. They just tried something different. You can't claim someone is stuck on a single theme when they clearly hit multiple themes in each game and with different equipment and tiers.
I'm pretty sure "Reddit" would love to have XCOM1's rocket launcher. No one in the world would be sad to see the DOOM rocket launcher in XCOM2.

Your original post is just wrong, on an evidence basis. If it had a real point, it was completely hidden behind the buzzword/memes and exaggeration.

I don't know why developers keep falling for this trap. Fluid physics are hard to make convincing, and harder still to render in real time; so it often better to just not do it unless it's a significant aspect of the game. Many titles will pan the camera away to another subject and just have a fluid pouring sound effect in the background so the player knows what is happening out of shot. It accomplishes the same outcome with no resource cost.

Which is amusing considering that moving to high cover and hunkering is a far better move than dancing around. XCOM 2's AI seems a lot more prone to movement.

The real question comes when you realize that the devs knew what this would look like, but still shipped it.

I'm going to call you naive. The entire team behind this seemed to be lacking in experience while being poorly managed. If this were the only example, I might give the benefit of the doubt, but honestly it's the least offensive one. Developed too fast? Probably. I guess knowing who to pin this one on doesn't really matter, but I believe that somebody could have simply done the earlier suggestion and not shown it.
>>
Should I just use Long War 2 if I'm using all of the LW2 modules (Alien Pack, Perk Pack, Leader Pack, SMG Pack, & LW Toolbox)?
>>
>>171627887
Don't use both at the same time
>>
>>171628075
Well I know that. What I'm asking: is LW2 polished enough that I can use it *instead* of the modules/packs/whateveryoucallthems? Or should I stick with the individual parts? The Mod Launcher says the Toolbox, Leader Pack, and Perk Pack are conflicting on UISquadSelect, UIArmory_MainMenu, and UIPersonnel_SquadSelect.
>>
>>171628327
It's completely different. As in, the LW2 mod is a full overhaul. If you play with the individual packages, it's not the same ting. It depends on what you are trying to do.
>>
>>171628793
I'm trying to figure out whether I should simply use Long War 2 since I'm using all of the Packs, or if Long War 2 is gonna fuck something up, and I'm better off with the individual Packs.

I guess a better question: what is exclusive to Long War 2 that isn't in any of the Packs?
>>
>>171628934
LW2 is stable. The stuff that is exclusive is the entirety of the Strategic layer, and how that affects that tactical layer.
>>
>>171629242
>Strategic layer
That's stuff like the Infiltration mechanic, and Haven management, right? Does that include the Squad stuff as well?

Someday hopefully
>>
>>171630514
Alright. So I should just use Long War 2? And if so, is there anything else I need?
>>
>>171630689
LW2 is a complete package. Honestly it works best by itself, unless you want to tweak certain aspects about it. So obviously if timers are getting you down, you can still use true concealment. You can use map packs, though those could unbalance the tactical layer. Some class mods are compatible with lw, you can do your own tweaking as well.

So these kinds of missions can pop up when scanning. Very nice. Also I disagree with setting all your haven dudes on intel until your first liberation. I like to set 4 to recruit and then the rest to intel that way I get even more personnel to gather supplies after the region is liberated. After all, you won't always get lucky with jailbreaks.

Unfortunately the avenger has to travel more as you contact more regions and you cannot benefit from the scanning bonus as much.

You do realize that we discuss Beagle stuff on /xcg/ right (or use to)? It's a shared experience you can refer to. Most anons aren't going to blogpost about their campaign, or edit videos, or stream. So you pick somebody who is actually good at the game, has some charm, and actually hangs out in your general, watch the stuff, and then chat with other people about it.
Also Beags literally used to be /our guy/, he wasn't just some random smuck people picked out up one day out of the blue.

Also your post implies some extra stuff not really worth adressing.

I do turn my eyes to the phone screen when things do get interesting but it mostly is indeed that. Beagle Streams also do background noise duty but they also help to play test situations and hearing Beagle's commentary on them (like those pesky LW1 Base Defense) and how he handles (or not...) the situation can help you greatly to your planning and game style.

>>171733469

I just finished the game, all endings, well not counting the 2o something joke endings the game has. Took me 40 hours and i can safely say i enjoyed all of it, my only wish is that the combat had been more "platinumy" i expected it to be as "cuhrazy" as it usually is in their games, but it really isn't. It's pretty simple, still fun and good mind you, but it wasn't as good as in their other games.

The story is what you would expect from a Yokotaro game, it's good and filled with depression and misery and i greatly enjoyed it.

It would have been nice if they put some kind of big warning in there. I kinda wondered when I saw the "difficult" rating, but I figured that on normal difficulty, they wouldn't throw anything that was going to be too much of a pain in the ass at you.

>check: laser weapons or better produced
>false: "I have a bad feeling about this, Commander. Maybe we should come back later."
>true: plays out as normal

That would be next to effortless to implement.

Well in their "defense" Alien Rulers was completely advertised as a challenge dlc meant to punish players, but yeah it should be in the game somewhere.

That said, it IS possible to do it with ballistic weapons, so it's not like it's impossible. There was some guy in this thread that was very proud of doing it because he kept posting a picture about it, that said i wouldn't do it myself. I always wait for mag weapons.

>I'm not sure what specific, isolated question I want to ask, so if you could instead answer a broad question: if you compared Phoenix Point to its existing earth-saving peers such as the new Firaxis XCOM games, your original X-COM: UFO Defense, or anything in between, what would be the biggest differences that sets Phoenix Point's intended design apart? What makes Phoenix Point stand out from other games like it?
As a followup or in case you can't really answer that one without giving away too much - what's your favourite new feature of Phoenix Point that you can talk about, and what led you to implement it in the first place?

That's a mammoth question-and-a-half! Phoenix Point has several standout features - such as procedurally generated aliens, large scale monsters. However, I think the biggest difference is in how the world works. Phoenix Point is definitely more 4X-like - with exploration, discovery, expansion, diplomacy. The human factions are just as important as the aliens. They have resources, tech - and secrets - which would be valuable to you. I am taking some inspiration from X-COM Apocalypse here - but applied to a world scale. The aliens and human factions would do stuff - events would happen - even if the player doesn't intervene. This is something I have been wanting to implement in a game for a long time. I am also really happy about the modern Lovecraftian vibe the writing team are creating.

>Hi Julian, as you know Chaos Reborn thrives on it's multiplayer. Adding Co-Op to Realms was one of the best things Snapshot did. Are we expecting some Co-Op Multiplayer on PP, or are Snapshot still looking at the options here?

We are indeed looking at several multiplayer co-op ideas, but I can't talk much about them at the moment. We will certainly be taking some lessons from Chaos Reborn.

>Hi Julian, How have you planned to strike a balance between meaningful and diverse variation of mutated forms without creating an overwhelming number of perks and buffs to remember? Forgetting one vertebrae-centipede is immune to fire, or is capable of infrared vision compared to its vanilla cousin, and so on.

Good question. A specific alien does not have a large number of abilities and generally the aliens will retire old versions completely before introducing new mutations. At any time there won't be a lot of different mutations around. The basic evolutionary rule the aliens use is that if a particular alien is not performing well, it will be mutated. If an alien is performing well, then more of them will be deployed - until the player figures out how to deal with them.

>My question is, in original xcom you had quite a few soldiers and while losing some experienced ones was a blow, you could keep playing.
>On the other hand in xcom 2012 the game was not incentivizing having a lot of soldiers and on top of stats, soldiers recieved skills that were game changers so losing your A-team that was 1/3 of your team was a loss.
>So my question is, in terms of soldiers numbers and their power level is phoenix point closer to xcom2012 or original?
>What is the technology? Unreal? Unity? Something else?
>Are we going to have hats for soldiers? So we can spend hour dressing them up and watch them die to a 2% chance crit from other side of the map?

In terms of soldiers - its closer to XCOM 2012, but it will be more difficult for your soldiers to permanently die. We are using Unity 3D for development. Yes, there will be extensive visual customisation options - and like XCOM you will be able to save character to a character pool.

>How have you been prototyping the gameplay of Phoenix Point? Have you tried the paper-based approach of Firaxis' XCOM by designing it as more like a board game, or staying closer to the simulation of your originals?

We implemented a computer based prototype at first, since there was plenty of code we could re-use from Chaos Reborn. It was somewhat based on 'Ghost Recon Shadow Wars'. We now have a second version of the prototype which now has its own distinct identity.

>In the vein of the AMA; what's your thoughts on the OpenXcom project? They recently released a huge milestone in version 1.0 and it's effectively given the original game a new lease of life; lots of bug fixes, modern resolutions, easy to use mod support, etc. and I'm curious if you've ever been directly in contact with any of the developers working on it over the years.

No I haven't contacted the developer on openxCOM, but I have been following it. I have played several versions over the last year, and also the Xpiratez mod.

>But there is one thing that allways strikes me as missing: a good and engaging story line. Will the story of Phoenix Point be better and more engaging? Is that even possible in a turn based strategy game? (because i hope it is!) It's like all of them have B Movies stories... and i wish there was a turn based game made by Stanley Kubrik, or a turn based game which story was so intense as an Apocalypse Now game would feel like.
Or in a TLDR version, what will the story of Phoenix Point be like? Will it be more exciting and engaging? More cinematic? More mind fucking?

We have a great writing team already in place - so expect to see some really interesting things happening with the story. It won't be very linear though - certain events may or may not occur depending on the overall strategic situation. One thing we have decided on is that there will be more than one possible ending to the game. It's not likely that we will have the budget for extensive cinematics - instead there will be some high quality writing. The story itself is a rather modern interpretation of Lovecraftian themes.

>Assuming the project is funded and does well will a console release be considered?

We have no plans as yet for a console version - it depends very much on the funding (and it doesn't mean dumbing anything down either).

>In regard to the factions, will your relationships to each one change over time i.e. they could be friendly early on and hostile later on, possibly your relationship with rival factions?

Yes, the relationship will change according to many events and action (or inaction) by the player. Formal alliances can be made, but require obligations - especially to defend havens belonging to the allied faction. You will face a problem if you have two allies that start fighting each other. You will have to chose one side or the other if you are going to maintain any alliances. In some cases you may want to take something from a faction by force, and there will be long term consequences. It will be a dynamic system that reflects each factions objectives and concerns.

>Can you tell us about the turn-based system in Phoenix Point? Will it be similar to original X-COM/Laser Squad system, where every unit has a big pool of small "time units" which are spent on every little action like turning etc.? Or will it be more similar to the abstract "two actions per turn"-system like new XCOM have? Or maybe something in-between? Or something entirely different? :)
>Are there any other ideas in the turn-based aspect of the game that worth mentioning?

The current system we have is something a bit in between. There is an implicit AP system, but the presentation looks like the modern Firaxis XCOM with an 'action zone' and a 'dash zone'. The action zone may be bigger or smaller depending on the weapon or equipment chosen. Your moves can be interrupted on spotting an enemy or taking a hit - and you can react as you see fit. A major feature of the system that a character's 'willpower' rating gives you will points, which you spend on certain special actions. There is also a hit location system with disabling wounds to different parts of the body having different effects. This is quite cool actually - especially when you shoot an alien's gun or shield of its wounded arm.

Try to get a decent aircraft ASAP, your starting one is intentionally shitty.
Capture weak opponents instead of killing them, handles are good against common enemies.
Line of sight is conical, but very far, especially during the day. Your troops have better night vision than early enemies, this can be exploited to great effect. Use scroll lock to get a night vision overlay so you can actually see.
You don't suffer any penalty for ignoring Terror Missions until you join the alliance.
Try to use any early money to hire more scientists, getting a quick start on the tech tree is a great advantage.
You can manufacture items and sell them at a profit, never let your workers go idle. Early on distilling elerium or making alcohol are your best bets for this.
Read the ufopedia, it details most of the less obvious game mechanics, especially some of the hotkeys. Ctrl click to sprint, middle mouse to examine, u to bring up ufopedia in combat are all especially useful.
Keep troops stationed and armed in all bases, base raids can come at any time and vary widely in threat. Generally your units are superior in close quarters combat, but invaders will often be heavily armed, try to capture their leader though.

>here were some improvements that XCOM 2 made that were carried forward into LW2.

Thing is they screwed up majorly with the LOS errors in XCOM2, it's about 100 times worse than Long War1 which also has it's issues but overall is polished as it should be.

If XCOM2 was built properly I still wouldn't favor it since there are no classic small sectoid ayys or UFOs to down. The ayy designs are really uninspired. SPARKs are a joke compared to MECs. The timer crap on the strategy map is lazy, timers in tactical maps were a good change I found as there were still the supply missions and story missions you could take nice and slow.

I think jake has too much ego to make a good XCOM and is too much of a chad to understand what makes XCOM fun.

NHS looked like shit as well. I just want the x/x health display, that's it. All the colors and bars are shit.

Finding out how to do it is the pain because you will inevitably have to suck up to people who know their shit with XCOM2 modding. That or read up and experiment yourself for hours on end.
>>
>>171818517
Maybe I'm thinking of a different mod, but one use to literally have just the numbers. No bars whatsoever.
>>
>>171818570
Either way looks like youd have to mod out all the shit in XComTacticalHP.ini and use a mod like Show Health Values just for the health amounts.

Health bars in 2017 I mean come on.

>So what is it that you want to archieve with this game, what is your goal?

I want to finish what I started with X-COM Apoclaypse - a dynamic world with different paths to success and more than one possible ending. Plus I want really scary monsters.

>Is its design much influenced by the X-COM-that-never-was: "The Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge"?

There are a few small elements of Dreamland Chronicles - specifically about how the aliens build structures and transform the earth.

>Is there going to be any focus on operational details? like, for example, how you get suplies from one base to another? and for logistics, how much will we need to focus on economy aspects of things?

We are still working on this aspect of the design and it will be prototyped soon. However, I can say that logistics are important, and you will definitely need to establish more than one base. You will need to pay attention to resources - everything is scarce in this world. Rewards for defending havens will often be some kind of resource. You will also need to scavenge for weapons and vehicles from abandoned military facilities.

i just let this fucking viper survive for a bit, instead of going let 'er rip and what am i rewarded with? she moves and shoots 2 pips off of my ninja in high cover. NINJA IN HIGH FUCKING COVER, and viper was the only alien to take a turn.

>>
>>171826937
>Have I been playing LW wrong for 100 hours?
yes. this is my 3rd retry of campaign.

what i did was do 3 or 4 missions with proper infiltrations, and farm couple of gunners and couple of snipers. after that i bought vulture in gits, and took every mission with 10 people, without infiltrating at all. when you kill 30 ayys every mission you level up pretty fucking fast. you also get shitloads of mods and elerium cores that you can sell.

also i cheat. i have the true concealment mod which grants you these few additional turns much needed at the start to get your snipers in elevated position from where they can dispense death. i have additional icons mod which shows me what ayys not to blow up, but once again i could just replace my technical with assault. i also have hack plus set to give 2 hack stat on every successful easy hack and 1 on failure. i could've done it without hack plus, just by getting supplies from selling elerium cores(i have 95 right now lying around at base), but that would just force me to replace the useless fucking hacker with additional gunner. hacking in lw is just bullshit and never worth the risk. in vanilla at least enemy protocols give you 20 hack and aren't 20% success, so you can prime their rng through misses.

most of my supply i actually got from selling 80 advent troopers in the previous month. also all my haven are always set on pure intel because you get so much money from every ufo or supply raid. i've only now swithced two liberated regions on supply and as you see they'll give me 700+ supply by the time i get coils and power armor.

my early roster included 3 snipers with 2 smokes each, ninja that is purely for spotting and never reveals herself, a grenadier kitted fully with stun and ice grenades, at least 3 gunners, hacker and a technical.

i have also cheated with psionics, by setting their training multiplier to 1 day, however i am yet to actually use psionics in actual pod wiping and not a controlled combat.

also, 2 huge tips:
1. when you're training gunners you are looking for rookies with at least 70 aim. also give them your best scopes and tracer rounds. when there are 30 ayys on map there is a shitload of opportunities for sweeping fire, and sweeping fire rolls a shot on everyone affected, so aim makes a huge difference.
2. give your snipers your best stocks, death from above and damn good ground. so on every turn you kill an ayy and use the stock all this gives you massive boost to accuracy and crit, to the point where at sergeant you have like 70% to crit and a guaranteed hit. being able to kill any 3 enemies is a massive boon when you have a grenadier that can shell crowds. also your gunners have guaranteed hit on a cooldown.

reaper plus axe PLUS fletchette is such bullshit. so there i was with a few ayys and my operatives out of turns, so i had to use [that]. ninja runs out, happily slaughters half a pod of vipers and sectoids, reveals another pod and proceeds to slaughter that as well. i'd say it better even than serial. all you have to do is give your ninja smg and mobility pcs and you can pretty much wipe entire map. oh, let's not forget axe throw as free action.

And the major things in X2 are:
Try to kill everything on the turn you activate - basically dont let them shoot you
Use grenades. They kill cover and deal damage
Because of this grenadiers are OP
Psi operatives are also really good if you can get them early enough
If you are unable to clear the pod away - use high cover. Its double the defense bonus

>Although it's always super-exciting to hear that a game is aiming to "think on its own" and "evolve based on player choices", when it comes to reality a lot of the times companies scrap those types of mechanics (see STALKER). The reason for that (in most situations) is, although the underlying models defining behaviors are complex, the resulting output more often than not is underwhelming and subject to abuse, or is totally dull (see Spore & No Man's Sky). I guess the only really good example of such a system working well is when the scale of your role as a player is different from the scale of the mechanics (see SeaDogs, Space Rangers or Mount&Blade).
>Hence, my question is - how much of the "evolution" of aliens will be based on rigid feedback models, and how much of it will be "orchestrated" or "stirred" by game designers to at least have predictable progression curves and prevent situations of players totally abusing/accidentally breaking the whole system? Hm, am I making sense?

Good questions. Our current idea is to effectively have a dynamic difficulty system that somewhat reflects how evolution works. If the player humiliates the aliens, this will cause them to generate new mutations. One the other hand if the aliens are doing well with a particular mutation they will deploy more of them - until the player learns how to deal with them. There will be an element of randomness in the mutation side, so it won't be very predictable. We will, of course, be testing this thoroughly.

Yes.

>From what I've seen, the USPs of your game will be the darker setting (compared to XCOM) and, of course, the new game mechanics- like adaptive alien behaviour as well as the faction system. Did I get that right?

At some point the game will be in Steam early access, but this will be well beyond the prototype stage. The setting of the game is really cool, with some neat Lovecraftian twists - although I can't reveal too much about that. The faction system is central to the whole strategic level of the game - they are just as important as the aliens. The aliens will indeed mutate and adapt to your tactics. We have the basics of this system working right now in our tactical prototype.

>Something I've always wondered and I figured I'll never get a chance to ask again; where did Elerium come from? Is it a specific reference to something, or was it just thought up and decided the name sounded 'alien' enough?

It was made up - although based on 'element 115' which was alleged by Bob Lazar to be the fuel used by UFOs.

>Will enemies be active during a player phase like Valkyria Chronicles adding a more action feel?
Plus any consideration of unit turns, like Shining Force, rather than player/enemy phases?

Aside from overwatch fire, there will be something called 'return fire' which enemies can do during your turn. Otherwise it will be a player turn / enemy turn sequence.

>Hi, do the game have a set victory condition (do this thing) or there will be multiple choices how to end a campaign? Can we go full alien?

There will be multiple possible endings, but I can't reveal anything about them now.

>Can you share some info on how the story will be told? Will it be more impersonal and research driven like the original Xcom games, or more character driven like the Firaxis games?

It will be quite character driven, but not in the same way as the XCOMs. You will need to interact with the faction and haven leaders, and occasionally other NPCs - even during tactical missions.
>>
>>171879140
>Firstly, does the procedural generation extend to the environments as well as the enemies, and if so, what kind of measures are you thinking about to avoid the kind of faux-variety that xcom 2 (great game although it was) arguably suffered from?
>Secondly, can you let us know if modding will be supported?

We will have a generated map system similar to XCOM 2 (and for that matter similar to the original X-COM). I know what you are talking about with faux-variety, as you put it, of XCOM 2. I think this affected the city maps more than the wilderness ones (which I liked better). In XCOM 2 the 'plots' (which defined the layouts for the main elements) were fixed (which meant the roads were fixed). Maybe there was not enough variety in those. Modding is something we want to do, but it is quite a big thing to support, and will depend on funding.

>will there be an alien like the Tentaculat (still my fave alien from tftd)?

There is no alien like the Tentaculat, but there will be an infection/zombie/gestation system used by Tentaculat/Chryssalid.

>OK, so from the screenshots we've seen so far and the information already released about Phoenix point, we're seeing lots of themes of mutation and cosmic horror which has got me thinking of "The Thing"; so what about body horror? What if one of your fire team is killed in action and later down the line you come across a alien that has somehow incorporated that soldier's corpse into it?

There will be a lot of mutation themes in the game - I can't reveal too much, but you are along the right lines.

>What are some of your big influences other then new xcom. From what I remember there's a regional targeting system and that seems similar to vats from fallout.

I don't think there are any big influences apart from new XCOM. Possibly elements from Crusader Kings II, Stellaris and other grand strategy/4X games.

>I know that there will be factions, but what about individual characters for those factions? How deep will the mechanics be with them? Will there be specific human allies we meet multiple times? Can they turn into enemies or switch sides between other factions or the player's faction? Will all/most/some/none of them be procedurally generated? Do they have
personalities or traits that the player needs to keep in mind or do they simply reflect whatever their faction is like?

You will communicate directly with faction leaders and individual haven leaders. The faction leaders are fixed characters - but it is possible for the leaders to change (or, as in the case of once faction, to have multiple leaders). They will have traits and personalities that the player needs to bear in mind.

>Hi Julian, just how far along is Phoenix Point? And what is the next big development milestone?

Also, will you be organizing a Kickstarter crowdfunding-campaign? Or are you and your team funding the game yourselves?
We have been working on the game for 10 months. We have a tactical battle system working with AI and networked multiplayer. We have also started on the geoscape system. So far we have funded it ourselves, with some help from outside investors. I can't say at this stage how we are going to fund the rest of the project, but we are looking at several options.

>Even if there is not a lot of info on your game, it got me excited.
>3 issues that bug me with previous UFO-themed games:
>all soldiers are equally horrible at the start. They forgot how to use conventional weapons beyond the most basic shooter. So much for the elite of all armed forces banding together to wipe out the alien threat. Are we going to run squads of barely-armed toddlers in Phoenix Point?
>guns variety. Compared to a Jagged Alliance, UFO/Xcom games do not offer much choice. Do you have more options planned?
>no twist, no big secret to uncover. Is there more to the plot than the usual : aliens invade, we rebel, we get stronger, we wipe them?

Nice questions!
No, soldiers will not be crap at the beginning.
There will be a lot of variety in guns and equipment compared to XCOM/X-COMs
The plot will be different to the typical alien invasion scenario - and there will be multiple possible endings.

>A bit too late as well, but what kind of plans do you have for multiplayer? Are you planning to support a large player base/different game modes? Are unit loadouts going to be customizable like in EW?

We are looking at several options for multiplayer at the moment, including co-op modes, but I can't reveal any details yet.

They quite forcefully conquered Earth with no intentions of just talking it out. The aliens do godawful things to the species they've conquered, using them as tools. They also melt humans in vats in efforts to make perfect a genetic sequence that they can use so they can stop failing miserably. Not to mention Advent recruits are melted and then used for cloning, genetically viable humans are melted and used for genetic research, basically everyone is melted.

Also they fucked with Earth. That's our home, yo.

JoINrbs recently finished LW2 on L/I and put all his missions in a spreadsheet. He shows which missions he won and which he lost and how bad, among other things. If you just want to see shit hit the fan you can see how a mission ended and just watch its relevant video. Mind you I haven't done this yet so I don't know how entertaining it actually is, but it seems to be pretty close to what you're asking.

No. Supply raids show up when you're doing well and the aliens move forces and supplies in response. UFOs are emergency measures that can be found if you complete a "Find a lead" type mission and the reward lacks an intel package.

Lower ranked units have less chance to detect faceless. Intel has nothing to do with detecting a faceless. Soldiers with officer training have a better chance of detecting faceless.
>>

Low level units have a harder time flushing out spies. Officers and psions have an easier time detecting them.

It's really not worth putting a high level unit into a haven laison. Especially once you have a liberated region.

Did you check your dark events? There's a dark event for faceless infiltrators. If it's active you should stop recruiting rebels. It actually expires eventually since it's a strategy layer dark event, lasts about a month I believe.

No idea where/if you can tweak the faceless rate. Base rate should be about 18% on Legend though.

Haven infiltrators lasts 45 days on the low end I think. Upper bound is like 60
>>
Do you still have to attach a soldier to liberated regions to recruit Haven members? I lost a couple of guys during an Invasion and it's very irritating.
>>
>>171959779
You don't have to assign a liaison to the haven but it speeds up recruitment.
>>
>>171960364
So just set everyone to 'recruit', right?
>>
>>171960534
Set however many you want. I have yet to look into the code but it seems there are diminishing returns with haven rebels set on recruitment.
