That's mainly what I meant. VR and VN are still pretty smart markets, no serious high-budget publisher would take the risk of trying to find the overlap in these markets. Just maybe it would work in VR was only optional but we've seen that if a VR game is to be good it should be designed from grounds up with VR in mind.

It would be amusing if they crowdfund the title they got for their new otome brand, The Bell Chimes For Gold, since they only picked it up because the Japanese doujin group's IndieGoGo project to translate it themselves failed.

eh, in terms of consistency i don't think that's really true. there were some pretty good fan-tls for a few VNs, but you can pretty much count them on one or two hands, and that's over the course of a decade of translating.

granted, fan-tls back in, say, 2010-2012 were still producing better tls than official localizers, but it's a different situation now and the best of those fan-translators transitioned into working officially.
