It's modern, not contemporary. They will have more realistic muskets and pistols, so they will be most effective against some kinds of armour, not all. Besides, reloading time and accuracy. Of course, the player can field only musketeers and get away with it. The AI won't do this.

And I will look on how to get more troops for specific factions, as I want the more ancients to be more populated.

Im still testing them, hesitating between the insane 113 speed of the top-tier knight sword and the sweet sweet piercing damages of the noldor war sword.
But even with the one-handed speed penalty, it seems like the Noldor War sword is where it's at. It's slower but has much greater range and damage. Perfect for beating the shit out of knights.
Now I only need a castle and/or a city to be able to take on those 200+ armies.

I got the something something manifest bow early on, wich is completely insane with ranger arrows. Maiden crossbow is also surprisingly good desu, lots of damages, reload time isn't an issue and you can use it on horseback. Im shit at aiming though.

Whenever there is a feast, there is a tournament. If you are trying to build relations with lords, they are all in one place to pick up quests. If you want to marry a lady, they show up at feasts. If you are a ruler, it increases your relation with your lords.

They're adding questlines with actual stories and characters in Bannerlord. I found that VC's story campaign was underwhelming and also ruined the sandbox experience by giving you too much free shit (though maybe it wasn't meant to also be compatible with the sandbox experience). 1.Ultra-powerful parties running around right from from the beginning making early game tedious as fuck and punishing you for not knowing wich unit that you have never seen before is super strong for a early game character. You spend most of your time running away and hoping that you'll finally find a party that you can take on without having most of your men dying.
2.Tiers upon tiers upon tiers of units bloating your party screen. Elite units get to such ridiculous levels it's a joke. Since tournaments allow you to get insane amount of money, winning relies more on having more broken units than your opponents than any level of tactic.
3.Everyone and their neighbours have top-tier heavy cavaly and mounted archers (even not!Nords does). Fights all look the same unless you're fighting the factions that has less cavalry or the one that is all cavalry.
4.Didn't change the horrible vanilla battle maps for something more sensible.

I can only do it for the ones I played though. So here is Gekkonewer :
1.It's Sengoku Jidai. Enjoy having no diversity of units and tactics.
2.Stupid anachronical jokes created a stupidly easy way to break the game.
3.Bows become useless as soon as you start fighting anything that isn't a looter.
4.Huge castles with proper japanese labyrinthic architectures makes for endless sieges.
5.Game still retained it's weeb roots, giving you characters inspired by 2hus and a (damn good) eroge. Wich once again clashes with the otherwise historical setting. At least it doesn't have 2hu arranges anymore for the soundtrack.
6.Samurais are insane death machines. Once you have enough hatamotos/officers you're essentially the god of death. Thank god the mod allow you to "fix it" by making them use 2 party slots.

I like the changes to sieges and combat in Gekko. No shields changes a lot the way you have to play. However it's true that fighting the same ennemies the same way every time gets boring very quickly.
And the large number of factions, cities and castles don't help, conquering Japan takes so long that I usually don't even last till late game.

It's very good at what it does, but god it is dull as fuck.
I feel like games on the Sengoku Jidai would gain a lot by focusing on short campaigns and local conflicts rather than the unification of Japan.

I didn't use the right wording there, the combat is still the same, but tactics are quite different. Mostly it changes the dynamic of combat : No shields, lots of polearms, infantry is heavily armored and sieges are "labyrinths" where you have to slaughter everyone from the main door to the keep rather rather than just the walls.

The result is that guns are kings, skirmishing is extremely important since heavy cav isn't that strong and have to face a lot of pointy sticks, wich means that rushing and preemptive against skirmishers are really bad ideas.
Fights are always decided by infantry, with samurai being your expensive shock troops while ashigaru are more your rank-and-file anti-cav units.

Cons are the ones I listed. It's Japan so everyone use the same shit. And there are so many goddamn cities and town that conquering it will take forever.

Their top line infantry exist for siege defense (where they rape at the top of a ladder) or as a reserve force. They are not meant for open field

Also using sharpshooters is kind of a shitty comparison since sharpshooters are the equivalent to t4 infantry in melee, and vaegir infantry are better than them at actual fighting, the lack of shields just means you must baby them open field.

Vaegir is all about exploiting weaknessess. None of your units can go 1v1 against an equivalent of a faction that is specialized in that, but you are the only faction with truly decent in all unit types. Your cavalry is only going to lose a cavalry duel with swadia/saranid cavalry, and can be used against most other things with good effect. your archers are top class, but lacking stopping power of xbows. You will very quickly rape any light and medium unit, and the higher rate of fire means you will win ranged duels vs xbows open field.

Your top infantry will rape anything that uses a shield in melee.

Its the faction for the strategist.

Sarranid Master Archers are arguably better than Vaegir Marksmen, though. And all their militia-tier infantry are better than Vaegirs just because they actually have shields.

I do like Vaegirs though, and think they are underrated as a whole, but individually their troops are shit. My main complaint with them is I've always thought they should have a mounted skirmisher of some kind, and their knights should have a thrown weapon option.

Very quality dependent. The nicer ones were not something your typical guy could afford. Not particularly sure about the Rus, but in Scandinavia at least - iron was also particularly valuable around the time so quality weapons would be handed down for a few generations until they'd break and usually end up being recycled for the iron. I'd imagine a kite shield would also say something about your financial status - so while it might not be particularly expensive only the people who would invest beyond the minimum were those who either needed the function or wanted to show they had money to spend on equipment. Just my opinion on the matter - that point might very well be moot.
