The problem with competitive spirit is you're running what is essentially a dead card in a lot of matchups. I think that will be why it doesn't affect the game TOO much. If there was a reliable way to keep it around I'd say it would kill aggro. And you can probably still "outrace" it. They need to play it and enough creatures. That takes quite a bit of mana. Maybe some aggro decks will include a single execution instead of dance of death.

Aggro will always have a chance against control because control bricks, and control can do almost nothing to stop storm and other kinds of non-interactive damage.

If d-shift ever becomes relevant, then everyone just plays aggro to fuck them over. Ranked will always be filled with aggro because it climbs faster.

don't forget you can play spirit cycle + howl to clear board and start up the best draw engine in the game
so you could just run a bunch of low cost stuff like deadly grasp and not worry about the card disadvantage
