Even in the scope of the Underground's population, your worst actions outside of all-out genocide is basically a moderately-sized terrorist attack. However, somehow this equates to slaughtering most of the underground based on how Sans acts during the phone call, talking about how everyone's going to die alone and hungry, and how much quieter everything is. I suppose it'd make sense in places like Snowdin, but New Home is supposedly suffering from overpopulation.

Geno MTT is an okay concept, but it is clear that it was always focused more on individual characters than a cohesive story. Which isn't bad in and of itself, I just thing the Storyshift creator went about it in the wrong way. They told the wrong story with the concept.

Well, the rest of the game was pretty neat. It's just this one point where your murders are treated in horrendous disproportion to how the rest of the world is portrayed, and a potential plot point about overcrowding is just ignored entirely. It's a really weird anomaly in the game.

I agree, but that's not the point. From their perspective, he is a ray of hope they've been clinging to, and considering the number of souls he's gathered has increased over the years, he was being semi-successful at it.

So from their perspective, their hope is shattered, humans have proven they are dickbags, they've lost their leader and all progress towards escaping their prison. If overpopulation is correct and there's nobody to take things under control, they will die eventually, either through infighting, terminal overpopulation, or famine due to mismanagement.

With that said, Sans isn't exactly the most cheerful person about the future, so you can also take what he says with a grain of salt, he might be guilt tripping as well.

I always thought King Papyrus also does guilt-tripping with the 'everyone's on vacation' thing, he's just trying to actually soften Frisk/you, rather than Sans being openly hostile.

But yeah, I think it's important to remember that our perspective of the game and its events overall don't mirror the perspectives of the people actually in there. Like for us, Flowey has committed acts of murder likely dozens of times, but to randos in the MTT resort or elsewhere that means absolutely nothing.

Burgerpants, the mouse and jester, and Catty and Bratty all mention that he is the only reason they're able to have some kind of hope and keep going while stuck in the underground. Yes and some of the endings they find new hope but that doesn't invalidated the fact that for a lot of monsters it was the reason they kept going.
I just hate how people ingore all that to make him seem even worse like his actions didn't at least have a positive effect for his people.

Desperately trying to keep people happy when they have no reason to be is setting the bar really low for a king.

My understanding of Asgore was

-Makes a rash grief-ridden declaration of war after Asriel dies
-Pretty much regrets it instantly, but the hope it engenders means he's dutybound to carry it out now
-Still hates doing the deed, so only passively waits for humans after the first one arrives. This is the deal breaker for Toriel, as she sees it as the worst of both worlds
-So now he's trapped doing something he hates himself for in perhaps the worst way possible because of his own foibles, and losing what remained of his family in the process

It's been decades since Asriel had died and war had been declared and since a human had fallen. The monsters were willing to try again by that point but that doesn't mean they would have been a willing a week or even a few years after the original incident.
