In LW1 launching proxy mines into the middle of a pod wouldn't activate them. If a pod was stationary you could repeatedly launch mines onto it and then when it activates it would deal massive damage and potentially wipe the pod.

Beaglerush abused this and it was changed so mines activate.

We definitely were considering they kidnapped the commander to use his mind to command and control their legions, and they used our genetics to improve everything they could, from sectoids all the way up the the Ethereals themselves. Remember that most of the X2 autopsies for aliens that were also in X1 include a bit comparing the current one with Bradford's description of them from before XCOM fell, even for things like Sectopods. Imagine fighting sectopods with lower level troops and nothing but ballistic weapons.

About the tenability of using Ar for the andromedon's life support system?

The love interest is Dr. Vahlen, an HR rep at Bradford's desk job who's always believed he had special brain powers. And she runs tests to confirm it, after they capture a sectoid together by blowing it's fucking legs off and throwing it in a homemade sensory deprivation tank mad from a bathtub.

I did some searching on argon's toxicity, if any.

Found that breathing pure argon can cause it to pool in the lungs and displace the oxygen; though a person with strong lungs can exhale with effort the sluggish gas.

Found some other sources that argon can potentially work as an anesthetic.

Mission xp in LW2 is buffed to account for stealthing missions, or only killing some ayys. Kill xp has been nerfed.
A 1-3 man operation all get the same amount of mission xp. Anything higher, and the mission reward xp starts getting split into smaller chunks for each soldiers, so 4 or more.
Leveling soldiers without killing is 100% viable.

The Ash and Blitz parts should pretty much be good to go but I haven't tested them out beyond the character customisation screen. The Valkyrie parts however are pretty fucked at this point, mostly in the shoulders but again I've only seen them in customisation.

I started having a lot of fun when I stopped playing Legendary and started playing Rookie.
Now I have enough turns to engage a pod or two and things actually die to shotgun flanks.

I feel like the number of turns for stealth missions should go up, not down, when you increase the difficulty. Dear /xcg/.

I was trying to make custom skill for a mod and I tried to use existing heavy weapon related one but I failed to see, where the game figures out, what animations it need to use. I mean, I made a tweaked version of animation for flamethrower use, where soldier fire flame from underbarrel area of his/her rifle instead of heavy weapon slot. I wanted to apply that, but I dont see where I do that.

You should listen to Tygan more when he's chattering on the Avenger screen, he talks a ton about what the cities are like and why people accept it. ADVENT has done a good job of making their cities appear like some utopian societies, where accepting their control is just the price to pay for living the good life. People in the cities get cushy jobs, are provided with what they need, and have access to the gene clinics. The gene clinics are a big one, people flocked to the cities for them, because despite the shady shit ADVENT does to some people in them, the clinics do actually do what they're advertised too for most who visit them. People came to get life threatening illnesses or things like cancers cured, then stayed in the cities after falling for the utopia meme. ADVENT also has done a ton to try to destroy people's ties to the old systems, by moving people all around the world between cities to get rid of ideas like nationlitiy or race to give people less things to identify as other than citizens of the ADVENT administration. Even with all of that many people still don't like their rule, but weren't motivated enough to risk their lives in what seems like a hopeless fight. Remember that near the end of X2 when you blow the lid on the Avatar Project to the world even the people in the cities rebelled en masse against ADVENT.
There's also a lot of people not living in the cities who just didn't have the means to fight back against ADVENT before XCOM got back into business, there's not much you can do to fight back when your hiding in the wilderness or barely hanging on in some slum.

I played dragonfall, and its strengths are very different from xcom. It's focus is IMO on the dialogues and the story, like an adventure game or visual novel. Just finished an Abductor landing in LW.

53 enemies including 5 Mechtoids and at least 3 pods of Heavy Floaters thrown in among Elite Mutons and Sectoids. It was like a war with wave after wave of aliens coming to fuck my best soldiers in the ass. Luckily I had a medic with Revive and 5 medkits to prevent any one dying. But they'll be taking 2 months vacation. Managed to capture an Ethereal too so it was all worth it.

It's just another flavor of fatigue. Which had the same problem - when LW1 was still young a lot of people hated the idea and disabled it, usually without even trying first. But eventually everyone understood the benefits.

By LW 1.0, equipment repair was standard, meant to force you to make multiple of all your equipment. The infiltration system handles this is a much superior way.
Now as to whether you want your strategic game to have this layer to it is up to you, but I for one am in favor of it.

Pretty sure infiltration does the same thing with equipment just in a slightly different way. You decide how many missions you can run at once, and how what the minimum of gear you can take on a mission while still succeeding.

On the other hand in LW1, repair just punishes you outright, unless you have back-up gear, because you aren't supposed to skip missions.

When it comes to the way LW1 and LW2 handle missions, demand for larger rosters, and equipment, I definitely prefer LW2.

I beat LW2 on Rookie so now I'm doing Veteran Honestman. I have started to learn the aggravation and pain of Yellow Alert, which got my sniper killed. Is there anything I can do about this early game? I'd feel bad just turning it off somehow but I didn't get a directional alert of this pod at all despite Overwatching for a few turns (Supply raid) before they came up directly behind me.

It is literally the same as the original long war. Aim stack on your shooty classes and use everyone else's abilities.

+10 defense for low cover does not make the game an rng clusterfuck. Saying that is just intellectually dishonest.

LW2's real problem is the prevalence of important missions with short timers (both infiltration and play timers). It's hard to balance because you get a lot of infiltration boosting abilities and equipment as you progress through the campaign.

March 2017. It was awful.

The first wave was a Sectoid Commander and 3 Leviathan class Mechtoids. All with shit tons of health.
The second wave was a Chrysalid Queen and some regular lids.
The third wave was 3 Cyberdisks, some Floaters and a big boss Seeker that had like 25 health and enough DR to see my Gauss guns only do about 2 or 3 damage per shot.
Fourth wave was an Ethereal and some Mutons.
Fifth wave was more Mutons and some Berserkers and tons of health.

That's as far as I got before I decided enough was enough.

In a MEC rush if you can hit April intact you're golden. April MECs are absurdly good at everything you need.

Cover destruction? Collateral
Overwatch? Advanced Fire Control
Killing power? 4-6 base damage baby!

The big issue with LW2 is that the early game is nothing BUT timers.

As early as you're comfortable doing so. I would wait until you get laser shotguns, cannons and sniper rifles as well myself. Plated armor can't hurt either.

This was the squad I used for my first one this campaign, with the back two units being an overwatch ranger and a support grenadier

I was heavily on the fence and ended up not doing that because I felt it was too cheap or would make to the game to easy.

LW2 is mostly a strategy layer overhaul while he likes XCOM as a tactical game. As he said: "I don't have thousands of hours in LW1 because I like the hologlobe." This is something that comes through in his few videos. In LW2 half the time of his videos is spent in the avenger and he does editing and cuts there as well. In his LW1 videos he spent maybe 10% of the time at the tail end of a video on the hologlobe, the rest was boots on the ground ayy slaughter.

He had other reasons too, some were beefs he had with base X2 that LW2 didn't fix at all. He could fix it with mods but he spent months trying to mod X2 into something he liked back when he still streamed it and failed, he's not up for repeating that exercise with LW2.

Personally I increased the range bonuses for shotguns because I was tired of bullshit like being point blank on an enemy and having a 50 percent chance to hit.

RANGE[0] = 0
RANGE[1] = 40 -> 60
RANGE[2] = 32 -> 48
RANGE[3] = 16 -> 40
RANGE[4] = 8 -> 32
RANGE[5] = 8 ->16
RANGE[6] = 4 -> 8
RANGE[7] = 0 -> 4
RANGE[8] = 0

All range penalties unchanged
