The lack of any direction with the new TA just makes it feel like you're drowning.

I feel like headcanon sharing, thank you.

So, one of my older headcanons, from before the actual release, is that Ki-bo's professor only created his AI but not his body. The fact that he is rather military-looking with heavy armor and has a laser arm in his official art tipped me off a bit. Chapter 6 start only reinforced this. My headcanon is that this prof was supplied with Ki-bo's actual body, maybe it's a military unit that was meant to be disposed of or something.

So Kaito's illness wasn't in his memories of becoming an astronaut nor did it show up during physical examinations/training (and thus obviously would bar him from becoming one in the first place). The fake backstory is that they all were chosen for the gophel plan because they were immune to the virus. The only explanation we get for Kaito's illness is after it's gotten to the fatal point, and it's very poor (Monokuma just says his symptoms were delayed, which comes across as a cover-up especially when no such thing was suggested in the remembering flashlights). All of this suggests that he had the illness before going onto the show.

Maybe that's why he was so eager to get on (even acting like a psychopath so they'd pick him) because he knew he was dying anyway and wanted to get something out of his life (money for his family, maybe). If that's the truth about Kaito's reasons for joining the game, then maybe the rest of them weren't all just super DR fans after all.
