I have no real idea what's important for the top,mid,bot and jungler heroes, can someone tell me what each of their jobs is? Like, jungler rotates and ganks, I think, and keeps lanes from getting pushed while teammates are dead/buying items, right?

Originally this was more about maximizing the resources on the map. Having more than one person in a lane limits the gold and experience both of them can get. Since there's only enough jungle for one hero (two junglers have been done, but in the current jungle spawn times are way too long for that) there HAS to be one duo-lane. The laners were then chosen for how well they can fit each lane.

The two side lanes, top and bot, are much longer than mid and thus you're not as safe in them. This is why mid houses a lot of immobile squishy mages. Mages need levels for their power spikes so they can't go in the duo lane, and since they die so easily and have no mobility they're often not suited for top lane, so they go mid where they can get solo lane gold and experience but they're relatively safe from ganks.

ADC's tend to be immobile and squishy too, and even ones like Lucian or Ezreal can be caught out. So they go into the duo lane. ADC's don't need levels as much as other champions, but they need gold because they scale off of items. So they can go into one of the side lanes with a support.

Supports are more utility-based and can do their jobs without a lot of gold and levels. So they can go in the bot lane and be fine not last-hitting as they don't need that much gold compared to other heros.

The solo side laner thus has to be able to survive a gank. Thus these tend to either be tanky, have the ability to 1v2, or just generally be able to be safe when caught out.

Now the reason bot lane is the side lane that gets 2 people? Dragon. That's really it, although now tower first blood is another reason it's not something that existed until recently.

And the jungler was just someone who could survive and farm the jungle efficiently for the gold/exp the camps gave.

Since then things have changed. Junglers are expected to be more gank and early-game focused, mid laners are expected to roam regardless of who they are and top is full of cancer range cheese

AD Taric is a bad idea, don't try it. Titanic and TF aren't /exactly/ AD items, but I'm not sold on the Titanic pick up and I think TF is difficult to build for Taric. By the time you have armour and magic resistance, and boots 2 built you're already well into midgame, and by then the slow from Iceborn is probably worth more than the substantially larger damage of TF.
