It's a new galaxy within the same universe. They aren't getting rid of any of that lore. It's still there. It's not all frontier shit. We've seen the giant Nexus station, we've seen spaceports, we've seen cities, and yes we have seen frontiers too. In some ways, this game is going to surpass the OT at least with how those different environments are actually depicted in game v in codex. I really think they're throwing the timeline ahead 600 years because they're trying to add a time buffer to the events of the OT and giving themselves room to write some new state for the MW that gels with the red/green/blue ending. I can just see a tearjerker moment where it acknowledges that it was built by mom Ryder and that even though its goal was to support the Andromeda Initiative no matter what, mom also programmed it to do whatever it took to protect her family. So it gains autonomy at a key moment to do so and save us.

Alternatively, since Ryder is the only one who can interact with Remnant tech because of SAM, Archon might be out to capture us to use it to his advantage. There could be a scene where we order SAM to self destruct the implant in our head, killing us for the good of humanity so we can't be used. But SAM gains autonomy and refuses.

I'm not sure Cora ever tries to get the SAM implant. After all, being Pathfinder probably doesn't just amount to just having the most important implant. The AI is nice and all but that's no way to pick a leader. We could have the best implant and still be a subordinate. Plus she already has an implant, just not the one that lets SAM monitor and mess with her brain presumably.

I think us becoming Pathfinder has to do with more than that. Maybe Alec just names us his successor instead of Cora at some dramatic point?

It doesn't. Everyone has a SAM but I think the implant that Ryder eventually has is much stronger than everyone else's. So others can talk to SAM, but SAM can't monitor or affect their brains like it can with Ryder's.

Because it hasn't been officially stated, but I think our ability to interact with Remnant tech is because of our particular connection with SAM. It's like we became some partially synthetic creature, like the Remnant.

I also think our particular SAM will end up being super duper important special and unique because mom Ryder made it or whatever.

The Andromeda initiative took a whole clan of Krogan ((Nakmor clan, I think?)) and perhaps some others, but this seems to be mostly to make them help with ground combat/pacifying wildlife/terraforming, there are at least a few in merchant/scientific positions, but I can't imagine it's that many.

As it is, I think the idea is that humanity and/or a bunch of ships don't get there at the same time as the Nexus or maybe just some of the other Arks, but we don't know how long exactly those other races have been in Andromeda for.

We can guess at least that the whole mission went sideways, and no ones really where they're meant to be apparently the whole Asari ark is missing, too. But in general, everyone's just in different stages, humans are just a little late to the party.
