Am in Quince, but I'm officially factionless and nobody I know feels like making the jumps. Been only taking missions to kill Foundation.

Between having to bitch out, evade clippers and pythons, circle with Cultures depleted of ammo, and run away from entire fleets of fighters, it seems to take so where between 2-3h for just 15 kills.

Goons like to promote E:D as a way better game than Star Citizen because it was also kickstarted and was released and has more content.

But they also hype Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Mass Effect: Andromeda because they have FPS and RPG mechanics like Star Citizen.

As for the content of E:D it's pretty limited, and the game is based on grinding money to buy more ships. Most people here have a self-persecution complex and can't stop playing it, despite hating it.

yep, if you buy a sidewinder from anywhere and crash it you can pick the free sidewinder from the rebuy screen and instantly appear at Trevithick
it'll only cost you 32,000Cr, even less if you strip off parts from the sidewinder before you crash it

of course, you can do it with any ship, but the sidewinder is the cheapest and its sold almost anywhere

Proc gen tend to lead to repetitive uniformity, hitting the averages(Hills, smallish seas) all the time and the extremes(Oceans and large mountain ranges) only very rarely, since getting there requires the generating algorithm to repeatedly hit its upper limits in succession(rolling mountains over and over in close proximity when generating) Usually Proc gen is used to generate a varied background terrain and then distinct stuff like large mountain chains are added manually via a different procedural paintbrush that is specifically configured to draw mountains and blend them with the surrounding more generic terrain. Mountains by definition are kind of exceptional terrain, the forces and circumstances involved are titanic and rare. You don't want em just splattered everywhere.

I'm sure we'll see a lot of that hand drawing I just wouldn't expect it in the first draft.

Aside from 50% of patches being ships, pretty much 3.0 to 4.0 is mechanics and professions. I'm sure there are many planet locations already been worked on, and the star map and mega map and solar system editor will probably make it easy to get a basic full PU up and running very soon.

My concern is that most of the art assets were redone or thrown out and that it was going pretty slow, but this NPC editor and customization stuff was really good, so I think things are looking good.

Even if 4.0 was only 3 or 4 solar systems, it's still a working prototype and they could just add the rest of them for beta/release.

I think 18 months more for a full PU release, and even less for SQ42.

I've said it before, once 2.6.2 is solidified, I don't think 3.0 will be too far behind. The majority of the things in 3.0 are just variations on existing tech, like bounty hunting. Cargo was worked for a long time, and the only feature they're adding in 3.0 related to cargo is a UI for buying and selling it.

Planets will be the big feature, but they're already being worked on and they have a huge amount of progress.

Patches after 3.0 will take MUCH longer, though, I think. The professions in 3.0 are simple, but after that they start requiring interaction with the world.

How will mining work? Will it be voxel-based? No? How will resources be collected after mining them? There are a lot of questions like that. There are a lot of mechanics to be implemented, even for seemingly simple things like mining, and some ships will likely be reworked and tweaked multiple times.

That said, SQ42 doesn't depend on any of that stuff. All the mechanics it needs should be there with the release of 3.0, and it should just be a matter of finishing things up.

It's always worth to engineer shields. FGS has a pretty good hulltank but it's just a little worse than the FDS due to less slots for hull reinforcements. FDS can eat rails for breakfast but you have to be a little more careful with the FGS, which usually isn't a problem if you do some engineering to it and since it can obliterate anything before it becomes a substantial threat.

The whole pledging and faction powerplay system is self-contained and not something you need to do to build reputation within the federal or imperial navy, just as an FYI since most people seem to go into it assuming it contributes to the faction rank you need to unlock ships. Your friendly and allied ranks most likely relate to the reputation you've built completing missions in systems owned by those factions. Pledging doesn't remove that reputation because it'd be shitty to just have your rep grind deleted like that.

You shouldn't be and here is why :
Playing like a fighter you are more likely to turn toward the top of the screen, you will be able to see much better where your projectiles goes (and if one gun was destroyed)
Then it actually balance the weight when you consider the fighter belly and the high engine placement.
It's not as bad as the Mustang but still.

Look at that pic, me I say it lacked something on top. And it will be nice to have your projectiles coming from all around the cockpit, like a killing machine.

Aside, I suspect they'll do a pirate HEAVY FIGHTER cause there was one in Freelancer (it was even the best ship of the game). I wonder if it was a fluke from development problem or something Chris wanted.

I liked the belly turret cus it made the Buc sorta look like a Starcraft wraith. Pirate heavy fighter could be neat. Maybe they could name it after some other swashbuckler themed thing, like, maybe after the type of sword a gentleman of fortune often carried in the 17th century.

I want a gun-and-torpedos focus piratey corvette with a cargo bay and some modular blisters to customized its role a little. I have a Polaris, but the lack of swappablity of its hangar disturbs me. I do no suffer from pocket carrier autism and would rather have a ship with more self contained power or utility.

The main problem with ship docking is that (almost) every ship has to have a docking collar which is compatible with (almost) every other ship. The Aurora, 300i and Constellation have some similar looking ports which could be docking collars, but they would still need to do whatever they are doing as a way of boarding the other ships.

I can see why they dropped it. It would be a nice feature to have but it's something they needed to plan for from the start.

I don't see the problem. a significant number of their ships already have those docking collars, and anything without them, well you just have to get creative. so now all those existing collars are functionally useless? why not just accept that standardization is not universal and some ships cannot hard dock with each other?

I would be fine with a very low-fidelity solution wherein physics grids become fused so long as both ships are not moving, and if one does you get a straight shear to a pre-made damaged state for each ship at the connection point. It seems to me like too many design decisions that have become fundamental to the game rely on the existence of docking.

Yes it's the same ship bigger, but its spec are off the chart, equipped right it was pure cheat in the game, of course Freelancer wasn't exactly developed/balanced right.

No way!
It's ok to fight Freelancer-like ship and run off with their cargo, but anything bigger than a Constellation would require one or several dedicated fighter to take down the shield.

That dedicated fighter would be one or two Buccaneer, and for bigger ship an hypothetical "pirate heavy fighter"
It would have no (or insignificant) cargo space because it would need all it can have to be a threat to a Orion or a Reclaimer, while surviving fighters like the Hurricane or Super-Hornet.

It will be amazing if Star Citizen can keep avoiding vertical progression in favor of role-specific ship.

My bet is on using tractor beam to immobilize the ship. With a timer on how long you can maintain the beam if the enemy start trying to move.

It would go like this:
1) EMP
2) tractor beam active
3) enemy ship come back online, you have 10mn before the beam "break"

At least I think it would give a much safer balance than maintaining a ship EMPed for as long as it take to EVA in and no guarantee to abandon in time.

There are currently no medium fighters with interior space, and it makes perfect sense for a militia/security role. I like the new Cutlass a lot but it is just too much ship for solo play.

I have heard people talking about a new ship for bounty hunters, which surely would be bigger than the Stalker but smaller than the Blue, unless it's the fucking bounty hunter mother ship. So hopefully that happens.

you prolly know, but the big problem was network messaging was getting crowded when you were blowing up at Yela, and I was stuttering at PO. SV allows the messaging to be structured so they can control what you get instead of your client being at the mercy of the current player count. Think of it as an editing table where your personal network message is put together and the unnecessary stuff is cut away.

It's a different style mambo altogether from the cryengine networking.

I meant good as in low latency. The way the messaging works, you can't get an on time gunfire message and a late movement message in the same network packet. The game engine sent the movement message late, probably due to the animation "fidelity".

It would be stupid to make 70% of the ship multicrew and make them unplayable without players. They planned "unique npc crew" for that.

Also, I would say you are pursuing an impossible goal.
The Cutlass is still a medium ship capable of nimble fighting (yes), anything below is the Freelancer, the Reliant(militia), the Vanguard or the the Avenger, the Aurora and maybe the i300.

If you made a medium fighter that is good at fighting an miraculously have good cargo, it would be cheated and used in place of other ship since it would outclass them.

I don't know about that but to me "Bounty Hunter" mean exactly the Heavy-fighter with insignificant cargo (only for prisoner cell) but that can take a beating while he neutralize/kill the target.

Else it would be the Avenger which is clearly the "police ship" archetype.

You came in just at the nick of time because we're about to enter a dark age when it comes to earning money.

The real money right now is stacking massacre missions. Go to 17 Draconis. Stack as many massacre missions as you can, try to only pick ones that are above 5 mil if you can. Go to the CZ and grind out your missions. You can easily make 1.5+ billion before the civil war ends, but it's been going on for a day so far and there's no telling how long it will last. If it holds up like it usually does, the civil war will end sometime around Sunday if it doesn't end before that.

When Frontier releases the new update in a few weeks, they are limiting you to only being able to take 3 massacre missions at a time, so it'll be much harder to make tons of money like we do now. If you want money that badly, get to 17D and start grinding.

I don't want or expect them to change the polaris at all. I want them to make more ships in the class one of which would be a more classically gun and rocket loaded warship.

The only change I would suggest for the polaris is to make the Hangar space a Modular slot that could be swapped out for various missions package like an EWAR or C&C center, a one or more gunnery stations or various sizes, VLS Standoff Missiles, Or like a drop pod launcher for deploying space mans.

The role of the ship as a Patrol/strike corvette is fixed, but I think it would benefit from that one major point of modularity like the LCS has.

I said a proper warship, not a modern oceanic guided missiles ship never designed to actually be shot at. The USS Cole was nearly sunk by two goatfuckers in a speedboat full of low grade explosives.

Most modern era warships are combat non survivable high speed transport platforms designed to fire cruise missiles at targets beyond visual, SAMs at aircraft, and the only things they ever fire guns at are unarmored and poorly armed boats. I'd replace the rear belly turret with a "mine launcher for chase me if you dare" defense and the rear top turrets with Pylon mounted jamming pods or or CM launchers and the Forward chin turret with a fixed mount. And like I scribbled on the Image I think the stub wings for the VTOL engine mounts are an obvious place to put a couple smallish missile racks, like s4 maybe, to carry 4xs3 or 8xs2. Right now the tally has two level of fire, "turret tickle" or "shoot your load all over them" with anti cap torps, it needs a happy middle level of fire to deal with a target that is too big for S2 guns but not big enough to warrant an S9 torpedos of which you carry only 6 and wont have at all if you have swapped out the weapons bays for "other".

So I was being lazy and letting my Crewmember AI control my Conda in 17D CZ... Sitting afk farming up missions from 5km off whilst he did all the work...

When I got back into my ship, my weapons are all stuck on Forward Fire in the Turret Control. I'm not sure how this happened but I can't seem to undo this.

Anyone else run into a similiar problem? How to fix this?

Stella has 4xs4 Gimballed or 4xS5 fixed. I am not seeking to make the Tally a dogfighter, It's a bomber. I am seeking to make it combat survivable and give it enough of a bite with a reduced crew to be worth flying.

1 man In an andromeda has 4x heavy guns, and like 80 S2 missiles available. 1 man in a tally has 6 S9 Torps, fully manning a conny takes 5 people and gives you 4x S2 in turrets, 4x S5 pilot, 8 massive missile racks, and a bloody fighter.

The tally takes 7 people to fully man, and those 7 people get you 10xS2 in turrets with poor coverage and minimal overlap and 6 S9 Torps.

I want the tally to be the modular ship that was promised, and in particular I want it to run with reduced crew complement and increased combat ability in the absence of the torpedo bays. Right now There is absolutely no reasons to own a retaliator as anything but its designed niche role of torping cap ships and its not even very good at that for lack of payload and survivability. It was pitched specifically as a ship able to be refitted into many different roles, but it just isn't and the Andromeda is better than it in every way while also being cheaper.

Turret 1 is well placed, the only good turret on the ship

Turret two cannot fire left or right whole in flight because it is obstructed by the articulated engines, if the entire engine pylon assemblies were moved up about half a meter this would be a usable turret.

Turrets three and four are obstructed by tail fins and by the body of the ship both forward and firing on the opposite side, their rear fire arcs are also very limited.only reall useful firing at targgets ahead and above or too the side, otherwise fire will be constantly interrupted by los of target visibility or loss of ability to lead properly due to fire arc.

Turret 5 is obstructed to both sides by the ships body rather than being projected down below the fuselage to offer FoV and fire arc improvements it is nested between sections, giving it extremely limited arc It cannot fire forward effectively, cannot fire to the sides effectively, cand cannot hope to track a maneuvering target for more than a couple seconds at a time simply because of where it is and what is around it, this combined with 2xS2 means this turret is completely ineffective unless the target is directly below the bomber or in a direct tail chase position.

The totality of all this is that the bomber can never realistically get more than three turrets on a target and those turrets fire arcs overlap only slightly in most cases, the only really dangerous angles to approach are directly behind and ahead/abovenearly ever other angle is only 1 turrets and a few angles such as behind and to the left or right can be obstucted completely by the combination of Tailfins and turret placement. The only turret than an reliable target a ship behind is the dorsal turret(1) and that one well place turret is being forced to cover for so many poorly placed turrets that it will simply not be able to assist in most cases where concentrated fire is needed because It will already be bust concentrating elsewhere.

The Talli will never fight big ship by shooting at them continuously. (even if a big gun module may still be planned)

The advantage of the Talli are (said as) these :
- good shield
- some stealth (they even said EWAR)
- TORPEDO RUN
- speed (and good AB)
- Lot of turret compared to similar sized ship, they might even get a boost (Q&A Hurricane part2).

If you fought a Constellation with a Retalliator here is how you would do it :
- Lock the Stella
- Shoot TORPEDO
- Overpass it before it can damage your shield (Stella can't follow, and its missile will have problem with your stealth/turret)
- go back for another run.
- Repeat (and looking at the size of the torpedo, the Stella should be running away from you)

And I'm as critical as you about the Talli by the way. It should have a complement of smaller S2 missiles as well so you don't have to sacrifice the big one. Yet the shitty VTOL engine are the only real problem since it make belly turret less efficient.

That's not a flaw, that's balance.
I suspect you are only counting the number of guns as if it were a fighter. But a fighter can only fire its gun when it can look at the target. Meaning 50% of the time (unless you are thoroughly powning the target). A turret however can (in theory) fire 90% of the time and you always have at least 2 turrets in sight of every direction.

You think the fins are a bother ? Any fighter trying to follow it will be happy if it have the luxury of having one of the fins block a turret, and don't forget the turret below AND the front turret. That's 4 turret at worst, 2 at best.

You aren't supposed to play the Talli like a frontal-assault warship. You are supposed to be constantly on the move. If you are the one who mentioned the greatness of decoupling, consider decoupling so you can have 3 turrets constantly aiming at the target.

Actually griefing is the result of bad game design and Dev can alter that.

I'm against "forced PvP" but I can give you a reason for PvP : players can offer much more interesting tactics. If npc pirate end up a little too predictable, maybe a player pirate would surprise you.

Allowing players to avoid orgs instance can be in the interest of orgs as well, it allow for more org members to be present for a fight against another org (even a 200 players instance limitation will easily be reached).
Or preying on cargo will have even more fun if other orgs' cargo ship are prioritized.

That's a nice aspect of Instancing if done right.

I unironically think you will want to face a player instead of a NPC pirate. A player pirate will likely give you the option to surrender in exchange for sparing your life.

An NPC will attack always, so you will fight tooth and nail to defend yourself. If it is known that player pirates will spare you if you surrender, then you are just out your insurance cost, which is supposed to be small. Most player will comply with the cheapest option, since you don't have medical insurance cost from getting killed also.

The only goal for the overall game I'm aware of is the acquisition of property and ships. New lives per character will be limited in addition to costing in game money, so sparing lives will be valuable.

Without the complete game I don't think you can make those predictions about how piracy will happen and resolve, and who say CIG won't program the pirate to ask for money ? If they forget to program a betrayal option npc would even be sure to keep their words.

I also expect the limited lives per character to make a difference, but just saying, this feature is something griefer will piss themselves for. The ability to fuck up someone's precious life with a suicide attack while they wouldn't care for their own lives.

So simple features to choose the type of gameplay you want and filter some blacksheep is nothing to frown at.

Those weapons only developed their extensive families after decades of use and development across half the globe. Mission are focused for a simple reason : often it's the only way to be sure a players did accomplish a mission without cheating or EXPLOIT like say DRACONIS 17.
