Why in the shit would you put a tank PCS on a Shinobi in the first place, you big dummy?
>>
>>169826630
Any of them actually. The AWC perks bring things that no other class has (but every class has because of the AWC).
I sniper can't fight at close range. Unless he has a pistol. An assault can't use a shotgun at mid-long range. But he can with a pistol. A ranger can't attack multiple targets or take multiple shots after moving. Unless he has a pistol. Technicals want to focus on their rockets or flamethrowers by perks, so their shooting is pretty weak and they aren't to good at range besides their rocket. But they can be better with a pistol.
Pistols ok.

Could just be that they aren't spawning. Happens sometimes. I went an entire campaign and only saw a single Berserker once.

Ah okay. I was about to do some cleaning but I do see the other troops. My first play through was filled with gunners and officers.
>>
>>169832994
The game's rules for spawning enemies are arcane and complex. Probably just that it isn't meeting the criteria to spawn gunners right now. They'll show up again at some point. Just have patience. If you go an entire campaign without seeing them, that's a little odd and you might want to bug report it (here assuming LW2, of course).

>>
>>169836665

Pretty sure it's not. Shotguns are less accurate in LW2 than in vanilla, otherwise I would agree

They literally can't. Rapid-fire is single target, kill-zone is reaction fire.

>>
>>169837212
>They literally can't. Rapid-fire is single target, kill-zone is reaction fire.
Maybe you weren't baitposting but I still think you are.

Ever vigilant + rapid reaction is literally moving and then taking multiple shots, as for attacking multiple targets that's literally light 'em up, their very first ability.
>>
>>169837945
>light em' up
>when I expressly said moving and then shooting
Come one anon. And once again reaction fire is not the same thing. I don't know how you get baitposting out of a post that has one thing wrong. Just face it, pistols are useful. Of course no one is gonna challenge the sniper point either because it's pretty obvious.
>>
>>169838303
Misread your sentence structure, but as for shooting multiple targets after moving, you can go right back to ever vigilant + rapid reaction. I'm guessing you haven't built an overwatch ranger ever and fell for the crit infantry meme. You say reaction fire isn't the same thing, you're only right about that in the sense that it is actually better than ordered shots.

Didn't contest sniper pistols because they don't need a third utility slot or the +1 mob.

If your sniper has to use the pistol, you've already fucked up

I guess an exception could be made for a holotargeting officer + pistol perks, but even, their action economy should be used on buffs/debuffs, not things like faceoff or gunslinger.

Personally, I don't use my squad in a way that necessitates pistol usage for any situation, but i get that playstyles are different
>>
>>169839721
critfantry's role is better served by snipers or assaults or gunners, IMO. A good OW built infantry can flank pods by dashing, go into auto-ow and then murder them when they move.

You never blame the game for your own shortcomings, or for getting a bit of bad luck thrown your way. But that's not the same thing as acknowledging that things go wrong, when you don't play optimally, and even when you do play optimally.
This is just the medic/medkits argument all over again.

>you have no excuse for the sitation
Why do I need an excuse? Things didn't go as planned, now my sniper has pistol to solve this problem.

I think XCOM2 needs an expansion PLUS Long War2

X2 did alot more than that. The customization is substantial and should not be discounted as "just cosmetic." The moddability is a tremendous leap forward. I know some people bitch about the DLC, but it was way more substantial than X1 DLC. I maintain that generated maps are a step forward. It's really the usual step forward, step backwards kind of stuff.
Also pistols have always been useful, no dedicated class necessary.

Let's be real here, the DLC is just a little bit less substantial than Slingshot or Progeny (granted Progeny was included in EW after fan backlash - a good thing too considering you get four free psions.)
>>
>>169856812
>are a step forward. It's really the usual step forward, step backwards kind of stuff.

I would have preferred no floor destruction at all since the extra LOS bugs are not
worth it. Floor breaches sounded fun but the LOS is so broken now I don't even
think it's possible to fix it.

I'm not saying XCOM2 is bad by a long shot, it's just that it needs atmosphere
from the music and ambience and way more discoverable ayy types.
I would have preferred RNG ayy types than maps and just have a
map editor for people to make more along with random LZ which
proved to be just enough in Long War with its set maps let alone if more
could be made.

I don't think those two are actually connected. Maybe they are, but wall los breaks regularly as well.
Regardless, LOS definitely needs to be fixed for the expansion. It's the most basic mechanic the player has to depend on to actually play the game properly.

I also don't know if I regret Bring 'Em On instead of Sprinter. It feels strange getting BEO without Aggression, but getting *two* free Battle Scanners is pretty incredibly useful.

How do you guys recommend building Scouts? I usually use them as backup Snipers. I think maybe Concealment+Sprinter could possibly be better than the extra Dakka lategame (especially if they are not Officer material).

Finally starting my first LW1 playthrough. It's on I/I and it's going swimmingly so far.

How do you guys deal with Roadway maps? I've been just shooting lots with double infantry, and flanking Suppressed targets to dislodge them from cover. Rocketeers have been sweet too, one hit HEAT and blew two whole pods of drones in one mission.
>>
>>169865161
Snipers help a lot, as well as support grenade mules. I like to use medics for smoke/chem/flashbangs/psibangs for two reasons, firstly the medic class gets excellent will progression, and secondly it gives them some use prior to psi lab and later while their abilities are on cooldown.

But really the big danger of roadways is the lack of flanking routes, and the plethora of explosive low cover. Smoke grenades are important when facing high aim enemies (thin men, mutons, etc.)
>>
>>169865582
Gotcha. I'm only 3 hours in so it's just drones and sectoids so far.

All the guns hit super hard in this game. On my first ufo (which hilariously was downed in a single hit WITHOUT friendly skies) i had a stupid move activate the outsider, but a rocket and a few rookies later it was toasted. The big HP bars aren't so scary.

I do it but I never lose interceptors. Getting airgame setup asap is awesome. Along with getting lasers. Lasers on the ground and in the air asap always worked for me.

Since others still play Long War I might get back into it before starting Long War 2.

>>
>>169868170
sure, but it will take 3 or 4 interceptors to do that. Meanwhile the aliens will be sending 2-4 a week per continent. So you will be spreading that experience pretty thin so that it will take around 5 or 6 interceptors to down just one ufo the later the game goes. At that point you are just trying to keep the ufo from shooting down your sat since it will get away before you can do that many interceptions.

Yeah but not EVERY ufo is a raider, so you can make back the cash to put up a satellite, not to mention having a sat i reserve. You can also fill other continents with interceptors and transfer them into your home continent, effectively having way more than one base full.
>>
>>169868617
I legit enjoyed the airgame

fuck the haters
>>
>>169868457

Even for Impossible, I think you are overstating it a bit. If you put enough resources into your Airgame you *can* definitely keep up with UFO's for the most part, if you keep a overabundance of Interceptors and switch them out with repaired ones every time you shoot down a UFO. You can get Laser Cannons really early, and once you transition into Laser Cannons on them you can handle basically everything short of a Destroyer reliably.
>>
>>169868617
Yes it is still better than clicking on a timer.
>>
>>169868713
Well i'm rushing Gauss so my best bet against Destroyers is gonna be 4 stingray interceptors if I REALLY have the planes to spare.
>>
>>169868643
I don't think you understand how important it is to stack kills on interceptors. Not only are you dumping a huge amount of your resources into your airgame, but you are suggesting losing out on even more resources and ufo kills for your pilots while also spending more on your sats. You will also need North America to make that anywhere near viable, but you started in france. Then, you will have to dump a lot of your resources into gauss as soon as you finish the tech to make the rush worth it. Gauss weapons aren't cheap.
>>169868713
The guy is going gauss rush, which skips lasers all together.
>>
>>169868982
The LW team made gauss rush not viable on purpose otherwise it trivializes lasers.

On I/I it's not even necessary you can just work your way through the different techs and you end up better off, lasers are so cheap in comparison to the losses and loss of resources you will suffer if you skip them.
>>
>>169868784

I would not even bother trying to down Destroyers without at least Phoenix Cannons.

And why skip Laser Weapons entirely? It only takes 8 days to get basic lasers, whereas you have to wait over a month to get Gauss, and then another 20 days to build the things.

Laser Cannons are really good to get in the long run, too, since they let you take down small ships with 1 Interceptor very reliably.

I wasn't ultra serious but I've never tried grazing fire. Given JC's insane aim stat he doesn't really need it anyway.
>>
>>169869893
An overwatch build probably takes grazing fire, but since he's not doing that, executioner is definitely the clear choice.
>>
>>169869987
>Given JC's insane aim stat he doesn't really need it anyway.

Now you will have four 90% shot misses in a row because you said that and he'll get critted.
>>
>>169869987

My thought is that Grazing Fire is really only great when an enemy is low on health, and Executioner stacks with Walk Fire anyways (and Locked On if you are using it to finish something off), and at High enough Aim (such as with Walk Fire on a Ranger), +10 to hit is probably just as, if not more reliable than turning 50% of misses into a graze.

You don't *need* to research Pulse weapons, and having to spend 8 days to research Laser Weapons for 50+ days with Laser Weapons you otherwise would have scrape by with Ballistic Weapons can be definitely worth it. Especially since you can more safely research Xenobiology for easy scientists.
>>
>>169870818
uh you kinda do need to research pulse

supercaps and emp weapons are locked behind them
>>
>>169870921

I mean, that is true, but what I meant was is that you don't need to research Pulse Weapons immediately after Laser Weapons by any means, so lumping in Pulse with Laser weapons as "wasted research time" is a bit silly.

I've never been a big fan of gauss rush as a strategy, period. That +6 aim and +1 damage is huge versus cyberdisks and mutons. Not to mention that you're really just delaying your airgame in a big way. You're going to build laser cannons eventually, why not go beam?
>>
>>169871238
Just ignore them. There is a somewhat legitimate point to being able to share a save with the devs but really there are many other players.
>>
>>169871414
Well it's also silly because I can still share my save. But apparently I am being irresponsible by not having multiple saves to provide them.
>>
>>169871360

Yea. Honestly I think that even if you had a choice between them early on, Gauss Weapons are not even *that* much better than Beam Weapons since the Aim is so helpful on early Soldiers.

Plus, Laser Cannons are ridiculously amazing and allow you to take down most UFO's efficiently.
>>
>>169871523
I find it more rewarding to instead skip pulse, or at least not build a massive arsenal of them.

Kind of a shame considering I like the aesthetic of pulse, but gauss can carry you to the temple ship. Ultimately they get superseded by plasma.
>>
>>169871652

I don't think I have ever really built Pulse Weapons, I just research them to get EMP cannons.

Pulse Guns are *so* fucking expensive compared to Gauss, and it seems like such a massive waste of Ayy Alloys when it isn't *that* hard to just get Plasma Weapons if you have been diligent with capturing aliens.

If I were to balance the game, I would make Pulse Guns cost slightly less Cash, a bit more Elerium, but very little Alloys so they could be conceivably worth it to pick up a few later since you are pretty tight on Alloys basically the whole game.
>>
>>169871952

I turned that shit to 200 turns so i can actually enjoy my ayy slaying instead of running from everything, and i can still stealth if i want to or if the situation im put in dictates it.
>>
>>169876315
Why isn't timer missions a feature instead of the whole fucking game?

I like timer missions but I also like the slow ones. A balanced mix up would be ideal.
>>
>>169857741
Oh man that would've been some dank sprinting.

I think bring em on is a weak perk unless you specifically build for it. If crits aren't reliable, the extra damage will happen too rarely on top of being wasted most of the time. I don't really see a use for the perk on a scout. Personally I would've taken tac sense on that one.
>>
>>169858289
I used to take ranger on all my scouts until I tried low profile. Low profile seems underwhelming on paper, why would you make your soldier weaker when you could just find more cover right? But it's actually very convenient, it means your frontline is one soldier bigger in every engagement.

For me the worst engagements are the ones where you only have a tree and some bushes to place soldiers behind. So you have to either put soldiers in low cover, or fight "one infantry against the entire pod" engagements because you only have 1 full cover. Low profile means you'll always have one more dude. I play my scouts as "infantry but more flexible", and that perk is key for the role.
>>
>>169865161
>my first LW1 playthrough. It's on I/I
mistake IMO; LW has a normal difficulty curve so you'll find the difficulty only kicks in after you're invested into the campaign, and then you'll have to savescum or lose

I don't stack infantry on roadway maps because you get very little full cover there. As the other guy I prefer snipers and scouts who don't need high cover, as well as smoke grenades that let me use all the low cover.

>>169866683
I bring two AP grenades for the outsider, a flashbang too but it's not for the outsider because I can't trust it to not do the 5% instakill lmao on me
>>
>>169868617
Yes, it makes you plan and think in the strategy layer. I know a lot of people play just for the tactical bits, but I like the strategy game to be more than just a thin wrapping/justification for the missions. The same goes for the repair mechanic.

>>169866884
The issue with gauss rush is that you're not skipping anything. Laser guns cost like 6 alloys each which is nothing, by not fitting your squad with them you make the floater months far harder but only save like 40 alloys. Research time isn't much better, you only reach gauss like 5 days earlier than you would without rushing.

>>169867401
That's a good way to bankrupt yourself. There's major diminishing returns to hunting medium UFOs. You can down small scouts with 2 planes per continent. To down a medium with stock weapons you need like 4 planes which will go in repair for a month so you can't reuse them to fight the small UFOs. So you're basically paying 800 + 160/month for the privilege of an extra medium crash every other month.

It's possible to kill medium UFOs with basic weapons, it's just not worth investing in the capability. The maintenance costs are just too high.

Guess what I found.

You can dose your soldiers up with roids from the berserker muton and turn them into bodybuilders. They get special abilities but lose movement speed.

It also has a variety of body shapes, all with armours, ranging from skinny to pic related. Soldiers can get to the 50% point (pic is 100%) through training, and if you dose them with gene therapy they get bigger.

It's made by a gay so there's some thong armour in there but also some normal looking armour.

>>
>>169906991
There's two very different types of UFO mission. The landed UFO is one of the hardest mission types in the game, even when it comes to small ones. The crashed one is far easier. If you're seeing berserkers and mecs in July I'm assuming you're doing a landed one, so a challenge is to be expected. You'll still be able to do crashed ones.

As for dealing with those enemies, you MUST have dedicated anti-mechanical soldiers. HEAT gunners, Gauss Long Rifle snipers, breaching ammo assaults, HEAT engineers, shredder heat rockets - make your pick but always have some on every mission after the first 3 months. I don't find berserkers very challenging so I don't really have a counter, RR medics or CCS assaults I guess.

>>
>>169925956

You could console commands to remove the Heavy Lasers and give you Laser Cannons
>>
>>169928387
Your devils advocacy would be a good point, but there are so many more abilities that just compound it. Close range, high crit, two move rapid fires can kill almost any enemy. Lightning reflexes and a hefty hp pool can free your squad from ow pinning just through the assault doing what they do anyway (moving around).

Trench gun is a respectable perk as well, putting the flamethrower to complete shame. Add on the versatility of later perks (ccs, extra conditioning, close encounters and street sweeper being highlights) and the crit buffs they get and the class becomes a monster. Street sweeper with crit buffs makes almost any engagement trivial.

The only downside to the class is range and revealing, the first is handled by run n gun, the second by good use of Shinobis.

People on Pavonis forums have weird ideas of what the best classes are. I have a feeling not many of them have built crit God assaults with street sweeper.

And the class just gets even more nuts with Awc, usually pretty synergistic.
>>
>>169928387

>Other than the risk of revealing

I think this is the main problem a lot of people have. I think a lot of people tend to use Assaults as one of their last troops (which isn't a bad idea, necessarily), but then if they accidentally pull a whole other pod you can pretty severely fuck yourself over.

I really like the design of them personally. They are *always* one of your best troopers for killing Ayys in basically every situation, and are very independently strong, as opposed to Rangers who often rely on cover destruction. This is balanced by the fact that being careless with them carries a lot of risk, since you can trigger aliens at extremely bad times which is quite counterproductive. Unlike most other classes, they are balanced by removing a huge degree of RNG from their attacks (while also having high damage) by requiring them to often move *into* the fog of war, which carries its own risk.

>>
>>169929531
That's the beauty of scouting well. Means you can be aggressive as you like with assaults

Scanning protocol meshes well with them too
>>
>>169930481

True. I think most people would agree that if you mitigate or remove the risk of revealing extra Pods, Assaults are incredibly, ridiculously strong.
>>
>>169928981
>>169929531
>>169930481

Thank you for the responses; I knew I liked my assaults but it's good to hear solid reasons for it.

I think they work well because they're an excellent part of a team - they cover for other member's weaknesses (often, by R&Ging to a difficult-to-reach target for a flank), and other classes, if used well, can cover for theirs. In other words, they're a force multiplier.

As opposed to, say, Sharpshooters, who aren't *bad* except they do nothing you can't already do with other classes, mostly and they don't create new opportunities for the player. Honestly, it's why I find Specialists so boring; they simply don't do anything interesting except hack better, because the hack bonuses on towers are either lame or too much of a risk to use. They can sometimes disable or MC a mechanical target, sure, but your Psi troopers can more or less do that already with Stasis and MC (albeit against organics).

I'd like to see Sharpshooters get some sort of love, though I can't imagine how they would. I'd like to see Specialists boosted too.
>>
>>169931709
>Specialists so boring; they simply don't do anything interesting except hack better
Boring, but extremely effective. They make good officers, don't need to be in a frontline position, give strategic bonuses, and can access objectives from a distance.
>>
>>169931709
Sharpshooters should have an innate 50% chance to shoot through a target. So if someone is behind them, they also get shot.

>>
>>169932097

I don't dispute that Specialists are useful, particularly for fulfilling objectives, but the fact that they make good officers isn't a compelling argument that they're a good class - it only says that they often have nothing better to do than take a plain shot at targets. Ideally, officer choice should be challenging because *everyone* had things they want to do. And the ability to complete objectives at a distance doesn't sit well with me - not in itself, of course, but the idea that they need a crutch to be a valuable addition to the team. Maybe they should have more versatile Gremlin options?

Aid protocol is a good start - maybe a Distraction Protocol; 1 turn cooldown, -20 Aim to a target? It'd be a soft Suppression, but take a single action and wouldn't remove Overwatch.

>>169932541

>>
>>169935063
>Like we need MORE LOS and LoE problems

>>
>>169935063
>but the fact that they make good officers isn't a compelling argument that they're a good class
Considering you need an officer, I disagree. And they are good officers not because they are the worst class, but because of action economy.

Like I said before, they don't need to be on the frontlines, which is good for an officer. They also have multiple abilities that only take one action. That means they are fit to use aid protocol, or heal someone, or hack a tower or something while following up with focus fire or command. Throw in the fact that someone should be packing medkits and how important they are for objectives, and once now you have a very good support class (obviously). Also, once they get the perk where they ignore the effects of messing up a hack, their utility against mech units skyrockets, and they an reliably shut down mechs and take control of drones. There's not alot of glammer to specialists, but they aren't supposed to be a glamorous postion, and in LW2 meta they are good, no other way to put it.

>but the idea that they need a crutch to be a valuable addition to the team
It's not a crutch anymore than a shinobis concealment is.

I miss games like Half Life 2 which actually put in breather sections. Are Archers any good? My previous game I tried out MEC's and only really used Valkyrie/Pathfinders.

Sadly her stats are below average (*really* low will), and only perfectly "average" Aim (even though she started at 69 Aim as a Rookie). Even with shitty stats, Rockets are great, so I am not sure if a dedicated Grenadier tank is better.

I don't think this was ever that good, it was too expensive for the early game and too ineffective for the mid-late fights. Destroyers also ignore armor so consumables are quite necessary if you still have Ravens.

I didn't start playing LW1 early enough to know. My questions would be how much did Lump change the game after early versions once everything was implemented. I honestly like the design of having an actual "stealth" mission. It is fun, but the problem is that it isn't fun when every other mission is a Shinobo solo stealth mission (or Specialist/Sniper etc.)

I think Infiltration is a really interesting mechanic conceptually, but it incentives some really *strange* behavior on the part of the player, whether it is literally bending the game over and fucking it in the ass with 0% Supply Raids or only having "A Team+Endless Shinobi stealth Ops".
>>
>>170030083
I don't think the infiltration system is dependent on the concept of stealth.
A number of changes brought about stealth, but it only continues to exist as it does now because the devs are actively endorsing/catering to it.

In its EU days LW1 was just a mod that increased the length of the campaign by stretching out everything. JL may have planned for it to be a complete overhaul with lots of new mechanics even back then, who knows, but to me it seems like the whole "overhaul to the point it's a new game" developed as they worked on it, unlike LW2 where everyone kinda expected them to do it so they approached it with a plan ahead of time.

>>170026764
I think it will get close, but I agree with >>170027164 , though my detailed reasons are different. X2 has technological problems where EW did not. It looks prettier, but to me that's nothing in comparison to having a game that runs smoothly, has 0 load times, and has reliable LoS.
>>
>>170023847
They're sort of inconsequential. By the time you can unlock them, you have a fleet of laser cannons, so half a stingray isn't worth much. By the time you complete all the projects that cost the same for stronger effects, like armored hulls and extra accuracy, it's even weaker.

The longevity of X2 is completely hinging on it's expansion imo. And I don't mean new content and introducing some interesting (although that will help), but I mean specifically fixing up the base mechanics and tightening everything up.

The main problem with the stealthing is the lack of variety.

They tried to do something by those Shinobi perks which modify infiltration, but it's still very barebones.

There's no true difference between a 5 man stealthing and a 2 man stealth team.

It's like the mandatory stealth segments games used to do, when you just want to shoot your way out.

It's not very fun doing the same thing 80% of the time. Stealth missions should be more easily fought out of when they're going south. If you don't want people spamming them for exp, just make the skyranger arrival limit the mission exp cap, so if you leave on the first turn, you get like 0.1% exp. So to get half rewards you need to survive five turns like normal.
>>

I'd agree with you if A) this wasn't a turn based game and B) if they looked the same, but they don't, they either have different armor and/or different weapons.

My only 2 complaints about that mod would be that the Mecs are all the same color, and that they didn't need to be all black, they just needed to be less bright, for example, the green gunner looked fine.

Should I delete my config folder when a mod updates?
>>
>>170044212
Even in a turn based game, the lack of silhouettes adds up. Yes, you'd eventually get used to it, but when you're tabbing through thirty units, will you really ALWAYS read each unit's name?

I'd say the only unit with a distinctive silhouette from all angles is the gunner.

I'm not against tuning it down a bit, but he could have used better highlights.

1. The appear in random missions, if you don't prep for them and appear they can ruin the day.
2. They have a different turn order then other units, breaking the pace of the game.
3. STUPID amount of health on top of that. Pretty much bullet sponges.

Its more frustrating then difficult and pretty much throws any strategy out of the window.

It was poorly designed wasn't though out.
>>
>>170080645

Yes, it's common. It's the "under Avenger bug" you hear people talk about.

It's also the number 1 reason not to do Ironman.

It can be caused by a few reasons, but if you have mods that affect the menus in the Avenger, that can cause it.

1. Turn the mission on in options
2. Don't go on the mission until you're ready. To be fair, it needs to be made clear what you should be expecting, and not some E-Z story mission
3. If they weren't hard, the fuck would be the point?

There's a lot of bullshit, but the game gives you the tools to deal with them.
>>
>>170080953

In LW though, they toned down the bonus actions. Plus, they tend to only appear on corpse-collecting missions, particularly Alien Base assaults, so you can be prepared for that.

But you get to decide when they start to appear. And you get ridiculously good gear to fight them. And they run away like bitches. And they are supposed to be boss aliens. Other than that you could have chosen to do the ruler DLC near end game when you get mines and most of your squad are full leveled.

>>
>>170082546
He's saying they're poorly designed, don't change the goalpost to difficulty. I haven't used rulers, but I know the pattern from EW DLC missions:
1. Jake makes content that's heavily scripted and designed to fuck you if you don't know what's coming.
2. The counter to this is to rigidly adhere to a successful strategy that directly counters the punishing content.
3. After completion, you get rewards that trivialize or at the very least disproportionately affect the rest of the game.

The issue isn't that the content is difficult, it's that it doesn't fit into the game and also gets boring fast because of how rigid a strategy it forces you into. DLC missions would've been much better if the rewards, predictability and difficulty were all in line with normal missions, just small value-neutral twists to add variety. I assume the same is true for rulers.
>>
>>170091048

>>
>>170091192
>don't change the goalpost
What goalposts? The guy thinks Alien rulers are unfair, and doesn't bring any of the criticisms that are contained in your post. He thinks that the actual fights with the rulers are not fair to the player. I already mentioned that they actually make the rest of the game easier, which isn't good.

His original statement is all about how alien rulers are simply too strong and powerful, and that is why they are poorly designed. Literally a argument that doesn't merit more of a response than "git gud"
>>
>>170092016
I dunno, I interpreted
>They literally break the balance of the game and force me to carry weapons just to counter them.
as a complaint about the rigid counter and its effect on the rest of the game, but I might've been reading too much into it I guess.
>>
>>170092731
From the rest of his posts it sounds like he's still saying the rulers are just too tough. Maybe he was getting to that point, but he certainly didn't start there.

It wouldn't be nearly as bad if the items themselves were replicable, after losing them. Any other good weapon or item can be made anew if lost, for a price, but the Alien Hunter items don't have that luxury.

>>

There are level 9 boss units in the game that occasionally show up. A cryssalid hive queen is guaranteed to spawn on least one terror mission, usually in the late fall/early winter of the first year.

she's not as scary as she sounds, and is kind of a pushover compared to units like Typhon or Reaver Lord
>>
>>170108650
I also should add I have only seen her once per campaign

Typhon (a super thin mint) and Reaver Lord (a super heavy floater) are guaranteed to spawn on the Furies mission if you recover Annette as part of the Operation Progeny DLC.

Made it to October in Long War 1 and I'm starting to feel the pinch. My once huge stockpile of materials has diminished. EggSalt kept stealing my money reserves. I'm getting missions and UFO landings like no tomorrow but my soldiers have unionised and demand a week off after every mission.
So I'm constantly in the awkward position where I've got an abduction and a Medium UFO landing at the same time and only like 8 soldiers ready to go. I have to decide on keeping panic down or raiding the ufo for them sweet mats that I so desperately need.
I've lost 3 countries and the Ayys are desperately trying to sever my ties to Canada and fuck up my continent bonus. If I lose Canada I'm not going to have any money because Interceptor upkeep will drain everything the Council gives me.

Does this sound like the beginnings of a failed campaign?

How many soldiers do you have? I think I would aim for forty specs by the end of the first couple of months, sixty corporals by 2016.

the ranks may be off (it's been a while), but I know the numbers are right. obviously the rookie => spec jump is the most important thing.

How? All-rookie missions before things get too tough. How to prevent them from getting slaughtered? SWAT-COM, smoke and flashbangs all over the place.
>>
>>170160410
You need to scan. You need to scan. You need to save money to scan. Sell shit on the black market if you need to, just scan, twice per month, and do the exalt missions, you get a rebate and even a profit from them, on top of not getting fucked every month.
>>

For me it's an iron rule to recruit to 60 when 8man squads are unlocked. Otherwise fatigue spirals follow soon after.

Don't forget the game is ultimately about finishing the plot missions, not about liberating all regions. Liberating a region is entirely about resources - do you need more corpses/supplies/alloys/elerium to make Plasma weapons and Power Armor? Then fights and liberate. If you're tech capped though, get the story missions rolling.

>>
>>170169329
The month is more helpful info than the enemies you face, IMO. But Heavy MECs and advanced troopers is pretty solidly midgame.

You're fine, skulljacking a codex is the final branch of one tree of the shadow chamber stuff. Where are you on the Blacksite/Forge/Gate missions? Be warned, those take a long time to infiltrate.
>>
>>170169329

You're doing fine. As long as you can kill them quickly and/or have tools to mitigate them for a turn (Flashbangs or Stasis, for example), you're still doing fine.

You may even surprise yourself. I am well into the endgame (just need to put out some fires then I'll send my two A-teams on story missions), and I had an Asset Protection rapid response mission - the kind where your haven rookies are on the other side of the map from your actual squad and you have to protect the data tap while you get your squad there.

I blue moved my squad and overwatched, which was fine, but on alien turn one, a pod revealed at the data tap, and no less than three patrolled into my squad from three different directions. I thought I was a goner, but judicious application of abilities saved the day - my Flashbang grenadier managed to stun an entire pod with her first grenade, my Psi trooper dominated a Centurion, and a rocket launcher/ Street Sweeper combo took out a huge chunk of the rest. Your squad is more powerful than you think.

I've allready decided that only gunners can equip these. Now I have an actual reason to bring this horrible fucking mess of a class along on my missions.

>gunners
Everybody fucking loves these guys on the forums, and they keep getting nerf'd. Honestly, they aren't even THAT good. I bring one as a swiss army knife soldier.

I also don't use boom grenadiers, so I guess I'm just not with the meta.

>>

They were extremely useful & good in LW1. They should've just stuck to the same perks for the LW2 gunners.
>>
>>170179228
People on the xcom general are passionate about the game and like the studio. This is not uncommon in /vg/ threads.

Another reason you're getting little help is that nobody can help you probably. Mod piracy is kinda underdeveloped, even for LW1 you have to hunt for it in Russian sites, and pretty much everyone who plays the game that much has already bought it.

The fuck do people think Gunners are bad for? They're damage fucking machines. Are people trying to build them as a support class? They're not the best suppressor (Flashbang Grenadiers are better) and they're not the best cover destroyer (Rocket Technicals are better).

They're not the LW1 MGer who stayed at the back and took long-range shots. They need to move up front like everyone else.

But besides their weapons doing high base damage, they're tied with Rangers for second-highest Aim progression, and they come with multiple damage-increasing abilities - Chain Shot, Cyclic Fire, Saturation Fire, and Hail of Bullets for when you need guaranteed damage.

Saturation Fire can hit entire groups and blow their cover all at once.

>boom grenadiers
Do people actually use these? I've found them to be beyond useless. Their nades don't do enough damage even with perks, don't destroy cover reliably until MSGT even with Sapper. Besides, the opportunity cost of not having a phenomenal Support Grenadier with shutdown Flashbangs is high.

By the way, one of my Flashbang grenadiers has started to do 1 damage to some enemies. Is that because of Combined Arms from my officer?
>>
>>170156321
Long-range flanks. Really good in wider maps.
>>
>>170180289
>1 damage flashbangs

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's from combined arms. I noticed that too but couldn't figure it out. Guess it started happening when I got my officer up to CMDR.
>>
>>170156321

Mid-range front-liner? Just treat them as a regular soldier. They make a good candidate for Spider Suit/Wraith Armor, since they can go for flanks to the sides a little bit more easily than others thanks to the extra 5 tiles they get from Squadsight.
>>
>>170182263
have fun triggering every pod on the map, chump
>>
>>170182551
I have a concealment scout around to prevent that.
>>
>>170182551
The AI usually takes cover in easily exploitable positions pretty often where moving you sniper to the side of your position gives you a flank with only 1-3 tiles of squadsight. A normal sniper can't take advantage of this, which in the end can make your snapshot sniper for reliable since them getting a flank negates the squadsight penalites.
>>
>>170178284
I think you meant to say Technicals.

Honestly this mod might be the framework to re-creating SHIVS.

Guess I'm meant to just abandon these if I can't 100% infiltrate early on in the game.

Firaxis still does real expansions, so yeah that is what we are expecting
>>
>>170198670
The timing is right for an expansion. Firaxis games get expansions. They stated that DLC was not replacing an expansion. Jake is set to talk. idk, would be pretty lackluster to announce another dlc right now. Evidence points towards an expansion, but of course we'll just have to wait.

I wouldn't be against that. I don't really like the maps in XCOM2, I understand they're suppose to be cold and efficient, like that chrome painted future in spongebob, but I just don't like it.
>>
>>170180289
Could also be because of a perk that adds +1 damage to all your grenades. I remember rolling that as an AWC perk on a sniper back when I was playing vanilla and being surprised as hell when a flashbang killed a guy who was left at 1hp, which was why I was flashbanging him to begin with.

realistic mission intel
alien sight range indicator
campaign summary
enhanced soldier customization [unfortunately seems to spawn a lot of bald females]
enhanced tactical info

texmod skins
+ setting custom class armor presets in the ini and a custom namelist

Yeah. I finished a PirateZ campaign a while ago, but the mod has already changed significantly since then. Give it a whirl, it can be loads of fun, but do be warned. PirateZ requires an insane amount of reading, time spend comparing and contrasting different armors and weapons in the load out screen, and is extremely long. If you feel like it's not for you, no worries. I haven't made my mind up still whether I like the more recent changes or not.
But it is definitely a full overhaul mod. Different enemies, new plot, new buildings, a bajillion new weapons and armors, an actual airgame that you have to climb the tech ladder on, pilots for your ships, underwater missions, space missions, Nazis, Demons, Human alien collaberaotors, whores, blood rituals, wharehouse raids, temple raids, melee weapons, etc.

You can set it up so that when a soldier gets promoted from a rookie into a class, they get a helmet+coloring combo that you've picked for that class. You may have heard of it before, the term I used for it was a bit clumsy.

They're all pretty good, but Expert Knowledge or Air and Space are the go-to ones.

Is this why he just completely stopped uploading videos again?

Kind of a fucking shame. I was really looking forward to the new series. It was interesting to watch and felt like the deck was actually stacked against him again like old LW1 L&I as he had to take gambles, manage resources carefully, and do actual gorrila warfare shit as opposed to just sending the same deathsquad to carpet bomb cops for half an hour.

man so many mods cause memory leaks for me.
mostly its soundmods and a few additional models.
i usually only run gameplay altering mods and stuff that affects ui/classes.
why is it that so many mods cause memory leaks?
even one voicepack seams to make the game go haywire after a few minutes. funnily enough it doesnt matter if its one or 10 voicepacks.
same result.
i tried deleting the shader file that is unneccessary for voicepacks since many mod authors seem to leave it in but it doesnt really help.
