This was cute. It felt just a little hamfisted, because it was evident they were trying to think of a scene for Nicole's development, but otherwise this scene and the scene afterwards (where she thanks Sally) are nice, and appreciated. I like the idea that despite having "mostly" adjusted to being a person, Nicole occasionally struggles with the more logical, mechanical side of herself that was present for a good portion of her existence.

Aha! I finished Generations! And with that, I guess that my journey through the "main" sonic titles is complete! And I have to say, this is a series with ups, downs, spins, turns and more. It is truly a rollercoaster, but I enjoyed most of the ride.

First of all, I keep replaying S3K and S2, they are fantastic games that still outdo most platformers released in 2 decades (BTFO a lot of Mario games too).

The adventure games have been slowly growing on me, to the point where I enjoy them more than unleashed and colors, heroes too but in a lesser extent. I did love Generations though, especially with those sweet mods.

I think that SEGA is on the right path with Mania, and I hope that P17 is something that proves that the sonic team has finally learned from their past mistakes by giving us a great game.

But I feel like playing more, so I think that I will try the romhacks, since I have heard that sonic has a fantastic community in that regard, and finally give the comics a chance, do you guys have ant recommendatiom on where to start or what to read?

Also, I did like Amy in the adventure games, but I ended up liking Blaze the cat a lot

Glad to hear all that, mate! Now in regards to fan-games, I would totally recommend Sonic: Before & After the Sequel. It was made by Taxman & Stealth (who are doing Mania), which is based around the classic gameplay. There's also the Sonic Utopia demo, Green Hill Paradise Act 2, & Sonic World for your 3D fan-games (all three are available in the OP, IIRC).

And as for the comics, I would definitely recommend the post-reboot comics (issue 252 for the main comic, & issue 55 for the side-story comic, Universe). The game characters have their best characterization in ages (if you liked SA1 Amy, you'll love post-252 Amy, Knuckles is awesome, & even Shadow has had his fun moments), the OCs introduced are great (I personally adore the Egg Bosses, Shard), & even obscure characters like Breezie, Honey etc. get to shine in the new universe.

A few places/ideas

Start from issue one and read it all. It's a big journey that has very great highs and very bad lows. You also get a greater appreciation of the quality of when Ian takes over when you read through the bad and there is a lot of bad. Once you breakthrough it, you get the best the comic can offer.

Read from issue 1 and read until you stop enjoying it. After that, skip to 160. That issue is when Ian takes over, starts to clean up the problems and messes, and launches the book into what many considered the "Golden Age" of the book. Read on from there.

>Reboot
The book rebooted at issue 252 and Universe 55 due to legal problems. Everything from Archie original characters to lore to locations before the reboot is mostly gone despite the "connections" to the previous world they establish in the beginning of it. It's the easy mode of reading the book and you miss a lot of good stuff before the reset, but it is the easiest to get into and is mostly consistent in quality.

As everyone else said, you can start at the old universe for the comics, or the reboot. The reboot is probably much easier to get into, and if you want a universe more "grounded" with the games, then it's worth looking at. Old universe has some great stories, but is rather inconsistent. Up to you, really, as I love them both, but definitely do yourself a favor and read Sonic Universe. The majority of the rebooted universe adapts Sonic Unleashed (and Sonic The Fighters) aswell, if you enjoyed that plot in any way. If you didn't, the comic will hopefully make it interesting enough to hold your attention.

As far as Romhacks go, I would suggest The S Factor, Sonic Boom (very fun but unfortunately short as hell), Sonic 2 Retro Remix (pretty damn fantastic in my opinion), and my personal favorite, Sonic 3 & Amy. If you haven't already, do try Sonic 3 Complete next time you want to replay S3K. It's basically a more "polished" version of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, with lots of customization options too.

Originally, Tails was gonna have a Super Form and a Hyper Form in S3K, and the Hyper Form had the flickies.

Yes it does. Compare them to Sonic. In Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Sonic and Super Sonic have their own independent sprite sheets. Super Sonic looks much different from Sonic, with a different base color and his spikes floating upwards, and his intense Shadow-esque glare, and the green eyes. And on top of that, he is flashing white with sparkles when he moves. In Sonic Heroes, Super Sonic has a completely different model, with a different base color, spikes flaring up, an intense Shadow-esque glare, red eyes, and a golden glow around his body.

Super Tails and Super Knuckles don't have their own sprite sheets in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. They have no physical differences with their base forms. Their fur doesn't change color, their hair doesn't float, no eye color differences, etc. All they have is a white flash and the sparkles when they move. Super Knuckles doesn't even fly like Super Sonic does when he runs.

In Sonic Heroes, Tails and Knuckles' models are unchanged. No physical differences at all. Unlike in S3:K, they both do float and fly like Super Sonic, though. Tails' fur is still orangish-yellow, and Knuckles' fur is still red. Tails' eyes are still blue and Knuckles eyes are still purple. All they have is the golden fiery "shield"-like auras.

In both Sonic 3 and Knuckles and Sonic Heroes, Tails and Knuckles' super forms are nothing more than auras of power, appearance-wise. Their physical forms go unchanged.

Well, coming from someone who's favourite is S3 + K, CD has more platforming sections and more incentive to explore than 3 + K does, and a lot less hold right to go speedy for 15 seconds.
The bosses are interesting for the most part and the music is great. My only problem with CD is that there's no reason to go into the future at all apart from by accident.

I can see why people like CD more, is the thing.

The only character in the franchise allowed to have a TRUE Super Form, with a completely different base sprite or model, and stuff like that, is Sonic the Hedgehog. If the character can be described as "Sonic the Hedgehog", then they are allowed to have a true Super form.

This includes characters like Shadow the Hedgehog, and Silver the Hedgehog. Both of these characters are regularly depicted as alternate incarnations of Sonic the Hedgehog, down to even having the same height and weight and body structure, and having their own 'Eggman' (Professor Gerald, and Eggman Nega).

People seem to think that it's only "Hedgehogs" that can have super forms. But that's not what the rule is. The actual requirement is not being a Hedgehog, it's being a SONIC.

If Sonic can be theorized to be an Embodiment of Chaos, then Blaze would be an Embodiment of Sol. If Sonic can be theorized to be the Ultimate Lifeform, then Blaze is her own world's Ultimate Lifeform.
If Sonic has His World, then Blaze has Her World.

If Sonic has Super Sonic, then Blaze has Burning Blaze.

In order for a character to have a true Super Form, they need to fulfill one requirement: Be Sonic. And that's a requirement that is fulfilled by Shadow the Hedgehog, Silver the Hedgehog, and Blaze the Cat. It's a requirement that ISN'T fulfilled by Miles "Tails" Prower and Knuckles the Echidna.

We all know that Sonic could use better gameplay, but what about the story? Should Sonic games have no story at all, or should they strive to be something deep and impactful?

On a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being no story at all and 10 being KEY tier levels of story, how much story should Sonic games have? For argument's sake, let's say that Sonic team has fired their current writing team and created a new team with the best writers they could find.

Considering Sonic doesn't flip his lid if someone pisses him off and turn into a monster, or have any of the same attributes as Chaos apart from a Super form, which Sonic doesn't get incremental powerups like he does, we can rule out 1.
Chaos as an idea, Sonic isn't chaotic. He's a free spirit, sure, but he's pretty reliable on saving the world, doing the right thing, being there for his friends.

If you can depend on someone do something everytime you cannot be the embodiment of something that has no order. Running around having no home doesn't make you chaotic, it makes you a hippie.

Which leaves the energy. Yes, Sonic is the best at using it. But he didn't have chaos control in Sonic 2 nor the weird flash thing from Sonic 3, nor could he fly high with it. These are all things he's learned. Any "He's the better Chaos wielder" can be attributed to "He's had more experience". Shadow for instance had no problems with the Emeralds the second time around in Shadow the Hedgehog.

Chaos Emeralds are pretty much just magical batteries which enhance and give people powers and the writers give them new powers as they go on because it's a badly written series.

There's an interview with the dev for Utopia and he's already addressed the level layout in the demo a dozen times over. It was too big because it was just something they slapped together quickly in time for SAGE. From what I gather, should the game actually go anywhere, the levels will be much more focused but still have plenty of room to breathe.

As much as Modernfags like to counter signal Utopia by quibbling over minor details, it's definitely a step in the right direction on a fundamental level. It's a true return to what made the Classic games great that Sonic Team just can't seem to nail down. I feel that if given the proper direction and development, it could very well be "it". Sadly, being a fan project, I wouldn't hold my breath on it actually getting completed anytime soon.

Regarding Green Hill Paradise; it's interesting, but ironically it feels a lot more restrictive in the movement department, despite having so many moves to choose from. Most likely a result of the engine it's working with, which I think isn't a great fit for the type of Sonic game they're going for. Level design is so-so, being a lot more focused than Utopia's slapped together demo stage, but also not particularly fun to play through. Everything is a bit too cramped together and the level asks too much of the player when they're given tricky controls and a boost mechanic that's more of a hindrance than a blessing while trying to navigate. As much as I hate the boost mechanic in general, being able to use it on button press gives the player more control over Sonic's speed. All that said, I think Utopia is the better direction overall. It just feels right.

A lot of factors play into that. I personally liked when the stories were relatively serious, but still had that Sonic flair, like Adventure 1 and 2. I'm horrifically sick of the childish and juvenile writing and shit that's been in Colors and Lost World. I think stories like Unleashed and Black Knight hit a good balance. They weren't too dark, but they didn't feel real kiddy and light.

As a whole, I do like story in my Sonic, as long as it's decent. If they absolutely HAVE to, they can make it a super simple, non-complex "stop Eggman" plot like in Colors, but for the love of god it better not be full of jokes for 5 year olds.

Sonic the Hedgehog is a guy that has a special unique connection to the Chaos Emeralds. What that connection IS hasn't really been said in the games, other than the idea that he may be the Ultimate Lifeform. The closest thing I have to describing what that connection is is Ian Flynn's idea that Sonic is an Embodiment of Chaos.

In Sonic Rush, Blaze is depicted as being the counterpart to Sonic from a world that is the counterpart to Sonic's World, with a set of emeralds that are counterparts to the Chaos Emeralds, and the antagonists of the game were 2 Eggmen. In Sonic Rush, Cream&Cheese supported Blaze just like Tails supported Sonic, and in Sonic Rush Adventure, we have Marine the Raccoon acting as an analogue to Tails, complete with her affinity for the sea and ships similar to Tails' affinity for the sky and planes.

In SA2 and beyond, Shadow the Hedgehog is a Dark-incarnation of Sonic, and he's also depicted as a "Fake" Sonic. He's an artificial lifeform that was created and engineered to be what Sonic naturally became, and as a result he is identical to Sonic in both appearance and abilities.

With Silver, it's a little less clear what exactly Silver is as a 'Sonic', other than the idea that he is a Sonic. I like to think of Silver as a version of Sonic who hasn't yet experienced as much life-changing events that made Sonic the wise individual he is today. Like, Silver's naivety and his "attitude" and stuff, to me it seems like his personality is like a younger less-experienced Sonic. Like, what Sonic was like when he first set out on adventure.

Maybe a better way to explain it is like this:
The Chaos and Sol Emeralds are like 2 sides of a magnet, right? Well, then let's say

I can't do anything really impressive. All I can do is manipulate when and where lightning strikes during a thunder storm. And, I feel static on my arms whenever I focus on practicing/using the power, it has nothing to do with whether a storm is present or not, it just happens when I focus on using my abilities. It's less about shipping and more about meaningful character interaction for me. I just want substance behind when they meet and talk. Thing is, I do feel as if Amy fits Sonic's personality better. Personally, Amy has always been the more entertaining character than Sally, & Amy fits Sonic's personality very well.

Is that Amy Rose, as a Love Interest, follows a Tails-esque idea of looking up to and supporting Sonic as a girlfriend, while Sally Acorn as a Love Interest follows a Knuckles-esque idea of opposing Sonic as an opposite with the 'opposites attract' mentality. I wasn't trying to take either side, although I primarily side with Amy since she's SEGA's official idea on what Sonic's girlfriend should be.
