not him but to me, Rance III and IV often felt like comedies at times, cheap comedies that have that campy feeling early Rance games have. Of course there is a charm to that, and I do enjoy that trademark humor, but I also think it diminishes the overall quality or grandeur of the games. It's hard to take fighting the final boss seriously when Rance is remarking how hot she is, it's hard to feel dramatic tension when Rance is constantly deflating it. I like Rance as a character, he's great at what he does, but creating a compelling story or pulling you into the world is not what he does. He's the guy that says what we're all thinking, the guy who challenges norms and sometimes almost breaks the fourth wall in his boldness. But sometimes you don't want that, and sometimes having a protag like that makes it very difficult to make a "serious" game, basically. So I think TT2 has that over Rance III and IV in that Seed is a serious protagonist.

Ine problem with Sill is that she appears a lot in most games, also taking many of the ero scenes. That exposure means that it's easier for those who find her meh or are indifferent to grow annoyed at her.

Another reason that may drive people to start disliking her some of her OTP fans being specially annoying. While we have that type of fans for almost all of the many girls on the series, you don't tend to have them defending their OTP with Rance because it would be too delusional. But with Sill status as the closest to Rance, her more hardcore OTP fans do just that.

So what level are you supposed to be for all these event fights in the postgame? Rance is just over 60 and can take a few hits from them, but all my capped level 50 girls like Sel just get decimated and can't even keep a charge for Recovery Rain when their zippo gets triggered after one hit.

Quest isn't shitty, it's a solid game. I wouldn't say it's a contender for one of the best in the series, but definitely worth playing.

Personally I think all of them are worth it if you like the characters and setting. Early ones are noticeably dated, I'd say IV was the first one that I genuinely felt that I enjoyed as a game rather than the gameplay being something I did so that I could see more fun antics with Rance & friends though. (III was ok but the battle system was really too simplistic and easy to the point that you kind of just leave everything on auto after the first few areas and it will go fine even against bosses.)
