How do you approach Neutral on games like Blazblue or GG?

I see pros jumping a lot and generally playing a kinda normal, even if fast, neutral game.

But coming from SFIV having learned that you shouldn't jump a lot, I feel like the pace and options are a bit overwhelming.

Trying to learn Izayoi doesn't help either.

i don't know about BB but "approaching neutral" in gg depends entirely on what you're playing and what you're playing against
if you're playing against something like Slayer or Sol, you shouldn't press buttons until you're sure its safe
if its some oki shit like Millia or Raven, pressure and try and stay mid screen as much as possible
if it's set play like Venom or Zato you have to play at their pace and make the most out of whatever opening you can get

The main difference is in 'gameplan' let's say. Ryu can do anything. He can play a defensive zone game (though currently not super well in SFV) or he can pressure, rush down, midscreen.... Ryu can do everything.

Ken is more offensive/pressure. He has a couple overheads, including a fakeout overhead. His backthrow has huge distance to it so you can pop someone into a corner quite well. He also has a divekick if you're willing to burn meter on it to get in over projectiles or various other uses.

Ryu has everything, and it's up to you how to put it together, but no gimmicks. Ken has some gimmicks that make him benefit from playing a certain way.

Aside from SFV technical issue, I've had a distaste for this franchise recently for a reason.

I've been playing a bit of GGXrd and KI 2013 recently. Both of these games have really interesting fun takes on characters, leading to a big amount of variety in the gameplay.

Whenever I see a new character in SFV, I don't see that. I don't see that "creativity" in their design or gameplay. It's like the same tropes repeated all over again. There isn't a SFV character as interesting as, let's say, Elphelt or Eyedol. It's very "lazy" when it comes to creativity.

I just watched like 10 minutes of Kolin footage and her normals looks super fucking awkwardly animated.

Basically, it's because the game is built in a very peculiar way so he can go overboard with some concepts. Since KI is not a regular carbon copy traditional fighting game, but it takes some rules and changes them by nature, he made it so that some crazy stuff could be allowed in the game.

Same thing can be said for GGXrd.

That philosophy doesn't work with SF because SF is a traditional, pure fighting game. It's so sensitive that even at the minimum overchange of frame-data it goes to hell fast.

I guess what matters is startup, active frames, recovery and overall damage done.

Those people mostly know friends who played in the past and play with each other in private rooms.
